Fields better hope the problem has been coaching because if he continues to look completely inept under Andy Reid, he’s done.
He's going into a situation where the organization and fanbase are used to superior QB play with Mahomes. I think he's just a backup in case Mahomes gets injured again. He'll be walking into a lot of hostility and skepticism especially if he stinks up the joint. I don't see Reid having a lot of patience if the '25 version of Fields walks thru the door.

Meh. Taking on Fields was a fair move to make, I didn't hate it. Nobody really knew just how shit he was going to play, it was a worthwhile reclamation-project risk.

His "body language", as you put it. He handled it with grace when he was benched and did not badmouth anyone involved, including the jackass who said it. I realize that the Jets were 0-7 when Woody opined out of his ass, but that is behind closed doors stuff no matter what everyone may be thinking outside the boardroom. That aside, time to move on. Or probably sideways.
Financially and picks a total wash. Brilliant move. Plus we save 9M next year. The way I look at it, we got Geno for no picks at a cost of seven million for this year, versus keeping Fields for one more year at the cost of twenty. A+.
Yea this was a financial move more than anything ….its a trade neither team can say got the better deal but for the Jets situation it’s as good as it gets. The 2027 6th round pick most likely gets flipped to trade up for a better depth piece. The cap savings is good too.
Yeah that definitely didn’t help. But as ignorant as it was for Woody to say that, Fields had 3 games up until that point with less than 50 yards passing. He deserved criticism.
Since they got a 6th round pick back for Fields, which is what they sent in a pick swap with Vegas, they essentially traded Justin Fields for Geno Smith. That's definitely an upgrade at the QB position for basically nothing. Great move by Mougey.
I said in the other thread that depending on who the team was that rescued him from the worst possible 2025 setup he had here I might be tempted to bet Fields per/game stats to be better then Gino's this year. For the record I like that bet with him landing in KC
Yeah…crazy that a former first round pick is now worth a 6th round pick a year out… I never liked the player and thought it was a bad idea to sign him as he is just not an NFL QB, but hey, Reid is more qualified than me to make that decision so who am I to question?
For a guy who was as supportive about taking the Fields flyer as you were last offseason this really shouldn't be a surprise imo. Just like Rodgers and with the acquisition damage already accounted for in both cases I'll probably always wonder what either might of ended up looking like as Jets with a legit offensive coaching room neither ever got here imo.
I was under the impression that he was guaranteed 10MM but his contract was for 20mm. So we're either paying 7mm or 17mm. Maybe my memory about his contract is fuzzy. Right now, and its early, OTC is showing 19mm in dead money implying Chiefs are taking on only 1mm of the 20mm

The Jets contract was for $40 million over two years with $30 million guaranteed. By cutting him a year early the Jets were charged $20 million dead cap money with another $10 million still owed. KC is paying $3 million of that $10 million. The other $20 million is all paid in dead cap money this year with none carried over to 2027. The other or original $10 million was paid out last year for the first year. That all equals to $40 million. I think that’s how it works anyway? …. But the main thing is Fields is off the book for dead cap money in 2027 which he wouldn’t have been had the Jets cut him I think. Fields gets all $40 million now because KC took on the contract if I’m not mistaken …
The dead money includes his signing bonus that was spread out over the second year. We already paid that, so the cap hit is the 2026 salary and the second year of the prorated bonus. The math works out to us saving $3 mil because the that’s what the Chiefs are paying of what he’s due to be owed, not what his cap hit is. I have no idea if how I wrote that makes sense.
