Anyone following this story that the USA coach mistakenly thought they’d advanced and sat Bryce Harper and Alex Bregman for the game against Italy? Which they lost and now have to wait out the tiebreakers. As a Jets fan I can appreciate the brazen incompetence.
Supposedly he was informed about the fact that the team hadn't clinched anything before the game, but who knows. At this point it appears moot, as Italy is up 6-0 over Mexico in the 7th. Unless the game goes to extra innings, either Italy will win, or Mexico will win after scoring at least 5 runs, and either way the USA gets in. The only scenario right now where the USA doesn't get in is if Mexico wins in extra innings with other weird tiebreaking rules applying (I believe the game going into at least the 11th would be better for Mexico).
I really like it personally but I'm a baseball junky. But this year has shown one of two things need to happen. 1. It needs to be like mid-season, or just not when a lot of the players are ramping up for a 162 game season. 2. If 1 does not happen, its a young man tourny and USA should keep 90 percent of their roster under 28.
