I still would have brought him back to compete for the same kind of salary he got from Carolina. I'm assuming with all things equal he'd choose the better team and his college QB so it's all a moot point.

I wouldn't take Boston at 16 either. To me that's Tate, Lemon or Tyson only. 33 I'd go any of the guys I listed with the prior 3 obviously not being available there. And I also agree on trading up. I would have no issue packaging 44 with 16 to get Lemon or Tate if they are available at 10 if we got 10 and 110 (just using Bengals at 10 as an example). We technically still overpay in that scenario but Lemon and Tate are well worth it IMO.

Agreed no big loss…he had a few decent games and some invisible games. I’m not as high on Mitchell as some…you have him as WR3, I would say I’d rather upgrade if he’s our WR3…he dropped WAY too many passes. Don’t give a shit about separation rate or speed if you can’t catch it doesn’t matter much. And until I see that improve in games, I’ll assume he can’t catch. I totally get that having Fields as the QB may have impacted all that, so I would want to see him in camp and preseason and maybe he changes that narrative, but until he does, he’s just a fast guy who can’t catch and the Colts had no trouble moving on from him for peanuts.

I think we need 2 quality receivers…a starting WR2, and a guy to hopefully compete and take WR3

Can you imagine, we trade for Thomas and also draft Lemon at 16. Now, that would be something... Of course we will probably do neither of these things, but would be pretty cool.

At this point it’s possible the Jets draft 2 WR - one high and one lower….. however I have a hard time believing the Jets go into the draft with the WR room as it is now.

My nightmare scenario is trading 44 for BTJ and Lemon or Tate is available at 16. Yea that's fuckin awesome on paper but you are running into an absolute nightmare when contracts are due to come around. Garrett's extension will kick in by the time BTJ is ready to get paid like in theory, a top 10 WR if all goes well. That's hard enough to do for teams that DO have top tier rosters without a bunch of holes to fill.

Here I am worrying about things that won't happen and would be fantastic problems though.

With the salary cap rising yearly like it is, I am not worried about having to pay people. We need to surround whoever the QB is in '27 with as much talent as we possibly can. Only person making big money on the team right now is Garrett. We are fine with the salary cap, load this team up.

Same. The fact that he didn't participate at the combine raised even more red flags. He would have to completely blow his pro day out the water and participate in every single drill, for me to be comfortable with him at 16. But for right now, let another team take that risk.

Says the guy that will be first in line to say, leave it up to the Jets to draft someone with so many red flags if he gets hurt.
You can pick any first round failed pick to make that point, if there is one.

I agree there is a legit argument that at some point in the future there will be salary cap decisions/implications but if the Jets continue to add talent and most importantly identify talent and draft well it’s not such a problem. The future drafts in theory replenish that’s how the NFL works now. The Chiefs, NE, Seattle, Eagles etc have all managed to win SBs and seem to have no problem managing their caps.
