well I’m not going to sit here and tell you that we are historically good at that. I’m just saying historically, the teams that build through the draft and supplement in free agency are the ones that win.
The weapons situation here arguably isn't even an upgrade for Geno atm. Garrett Wilson and Jacobi Meyers have essentially been fairly similar NFL production guys over the careers on a per/target basis (GW is just gets a ton more bad team padding opportunity), and we currently have nothing remotely close to a Brock Bowers impact type. Line here should be better, but still have big question marks of our own there atm at G.
Yeah I’m not sure how to feel about the Davis signing…like the player and I get he had a solid year last year, but at 37 that cliff could come anytime, and I am not looking forward to seeing him try and cover TEs and RBs who are 10 years younger than him…so we’ll see, hope he has at least one more year left in him but would not surprise me if he doesn’t. The rest of the guys we signed are pretty much that…stopgap types most of whom I’ve never really even heard of, and I say that not because I’m some great expert, but more so because I actually do follow the league pretty closely so if I haven’t heard of a guy at all, that is usually because he’s not a big part of his team…so we are banking on getting at least average play and maybe some upside on some of these guys…we’ll see. Maybe one or two or even three of them become solid starters, or maybe they all suck…could probably go either way. but yeah, Mougey may end up looking like a genius if he nails the draft and these guys pan out even if only as role players, or he may be fired along with Glenn next year if they all suck and we go 3-14 again…
Jets are in a nearly impossible position. They need to be in position to have a chance at a good young QB in next years draft and they need to show they are a competent enough team this year to keep Aaron Glenn's job. Hopefully the Jets draft a QB in round 4 or so, let Geno play 10 games and if they are 4-6 or worse, put the rookie in and for Glenn's sake, hopefully he keeps his job and the Jets have a top 3 pick
No, we are worse. We make boneheaded moves like bringing Geno Smith back by trade. Incredible logic to shit on another team when ours has been the worst in sports forever now.
If the jets draft a QB it's more likely today (imo) to be in the first 4 picks we have, and that guy isn't sitting on the bench behind a 36yo Geno for 10 games. No chance the fans, media, Woody, and/or even Woody's kid doesn't boo him to the bench long before that. 4 games tops imo. For better or for worse this is an always half in team/franchise that is trying to win football games next year.
Geno Smith!! Yea baby. Sign me up for some competitive football and 16 losses. Take the best QB next draft with other picks and finally move forward.
The problem with some of the arguments against Geno or acquiring a QB like him is that you can’t simply put a piece of shit product on the field next year for the sake of the roster. We’ve been getting rid of our good young players for 15 years because they can’t stand losing, they bang the table loudly for money no franchise wants to give them and they get dealt. What do you guys think is going to happen with Garrett Wilson and the two young offensive tackles next year if we’re 5-12 with Brady Cook style QB play?
I like the move, but only from the standpoint that he's making league minimum and I think he stinks. So I think it helps us tank for next year so we can get an actual long term QB in the draft (Manning). But from a standpoint of actually winning? (which I assume is what Glenn is trying to do) It's laughably dumb.
Hopefully not. A 3rd round pick, if the Jets trade down, gives the fans some semblance of hope, while not preventing a QB draft selection next year. Garrett Nussmeier will be a good choice, just don't draft too high.
Bulls-fuckin-eye Its crazy to me how people complain about us doing the same thing over and over and over but they leave this part out of the equation.
I don't care about that. I care about the fans, what they think and deserve. At least GW and the tackles are getting paid to play on this sack of shit team. For a solution though, if we stink, get a top 4 pick, we take a QB that hopefully gives us a chance. What else do we got at this point?
To be fair, I really dont care what Wilson thinks. He's the genius that ran Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams out of town because he wanted to play with Justin Fields and Arian Smith.
