Yeah, I know. I think he can still play some and I do think he may be our best option in the pool of bad options. I hope we get him at this point. Former Jet too. I understand, but there are not many options left, a few guys we talked about already signed. That's what happens when you win a meaningless game to take you out of the QBs in draft. In this case of course 1 QB, since we had #2 pick. But we are where we are and we have to take the best available option, which I think now is Geno. Ideally both Geno and Wentz.
I’m not sure why they have ruled out Kirk Cousins. My guess is they may want to draft Ty Simpson and have him sit the year and hopefully start next year. Cousins probably not up for being a backup next year(but I don’t know who else wants to sign him), Geno needs to prove that he is still a starting QB after last season’s debacle.
I'm starting to embrace that. He can still swing the rock, and if he stops the panic hero mode when under pressure, he could be good enough to carry this team for two years. Geno-Wentz is probably the combo for this year
Can we please keep in mind that last year we did not have a QB that could effectively read defenses and throw the rock quickly to the open target. The predictability of our offensive schemes, knowing the weakness at QB, made the defenses job a piece of cake. Any of the names floated for a stop gap are head and shoulders better, not to mention, with Reich, the game plan will be more creative and less predictable. Not ideal bur serviceable. Give me a QB that sees the whole field quickly.
"Geno Smith the Jet" was a bad movie that doesn't need a sequel. He's a mistake-prone quarterback, whose many errors would be magnified by the impatience of the fanbase, while also disheartening a young developing team.
I don’t think we’ve ruled out Cousins as much as Cousins has ruled out us. Going back to the Boomer theory of someone shaking free that is a veteran and can start for two years and run the offense efficiently… I could easily see Arizona signing Cousins and then trading us a Jacoby Brissett.
Darnell Mooney as a number 3 receiver who could play himself into a number 2 role? They have announced Brissett is going to be the starter in Arizona. I would have liked to get Brissett. Now it is a matter of the Vikings signing either Cousins or Murray. The Steelers are in Limbo due to Aaron Rodgers doing his yearly "I don't know what I want to do yet" routine...they may sign Cousins eventually, if AR retires. If none of these teams sign him he may have no choice but to sign with the Jets....
eh I don’t buy that Brissett is locked in as the starter. I think he is right NOW but I don’t think saying that will stop them from pursuing Cousins. Keep in mind, Cousins’s contract only has $10 million in offset tied to a roster bonus. So he will be looking for a deal bigger than $10 million so that he can make more money. This isn’t like Murray or Geno where he has no chance of making any more money than he already would be this season. So expect us to have to pay more than $10 mil if we’re signing him (and I would)
IDK I would guess Pitt going out and adding another expensive WR yesterday in Pittman has "Rodgers is coming back" finger prints all over it. I really don't like the fact we didn't get a QB squared away yesterday though. Makes me even more scared the Jets have already penned in a hard reach on Simpson into their 2026 QB game plan.
Unless we wanted Tua or Willis there wasn’t anything that happened that precludes us from getting our guy. Can’t talk to Kyler or Geno because their teams haven’t officially announced that they will be cut, Dolphins announced that Tua would be cut which is why he could talk to and commit to the Falcons. Kyler isn’t coming here anyway. Outside of that we need to wait for the trade market and materialize. I’m going to assume teams need to wait for other dominoes to fall before that happens. A lot probably rides on where Kirk or Kyler sign.
Adam Schefter reporting that the Jaguars have no intention of trading Brian Thomas Jr. Could be damage control or using Schefter to drive up the price but I guess we need to temper those expectations for now.
Just cause his play drastically dropped last year on a winning Jags team and they don't want to pay him a lot. But probably their team leaders stepped up and questioned the move
I y Could be something in house and with the struggles last year. But why give up on a guy who had an amazing rookie year I don’t get it
