Jets reached agreement today with DE Joseph Ossai on a 3-year, $36 million deal that includes $22.5M fully guaranteed, per David Mulugheta at Athletes First

    That's most likely a 2/22 deal.

Only 25. Fits the new defense. 5 sacks in each of the last 2 years. Probably makes Reese even more of a lock at 2.

Ossai, Davis, Minkah and Enagbare... yep the jets continue to screw up their '27 QB by trying to win 6 games this year. They just never learn. What a trainwreck

couple decent guys for the defense. Not world beaters but we needed all the help we could get on that defense. I think Assai and Enagbare are the edge setters to help stop getting gashed on 1st and 2nd downs

Average depth guys (I think Ossai is more) is a huge step up for this pass rush. I like it.

We spent 45 mil so far. all D. We started with 73.

    We're gonna draft D at #2

We don't have much left to address OFFENSE

Not that I know much about him and hope to be proven wrong but from what I see, looks like a lot of money for mediocre players. Also, that's now 2 edges signed along with McDonald. Presumably the pick at 2 was going to be edge. Thats a lot. Is somebody playing inside, McD being traded, or theyre not going edge 2? Trying to piece this together

The obvious puzzle piece is Reese. He plays OLB in our defense. Ossai, WMD, Enagbare are rotational EDGE guys. Sweat, Phillips and Briggs on the interior. It all makes a ton of sense and on paper, looks pretty nice.

Hmmm….I follow the NFL pretty well, but I have to admit I don’t know much, if anything, about either Ossai or Enagbare…doesn’t mean much but weird that I watch a lot of games and I’ve just not really heard either name much

It's a lot of money for depth and rotational guys, especially since they're (as of now) keeping WMD and in position to draft an edge at 2. Depth is good, but at $10 and $12m/yr?

But it's also 2 hours into free agency and it's all reactionary until we actually see the product on the field. Not saying the sky is falling, but my initial impression is some skepticism.

On the positive, they're adding NFL-caliber players across the defense

Ossai is mentioned pretty often. He's a starter for us and at worst, a high end rotational piece. We paid him to be a bit more and I have no issue paying for potential when the guy is 25, we have money and we're looking towards the future.

The Packers dude.... never heard his name. But that's usually how it goes with depth guys.

The guarantees are all that matter, not the average per year. Ossai didn't get $12 mil a year in reality.
