    Per Schefter

We gave up a seventh round draft pick and signed him to a 3/40 deal. What am I missing? That’s an absolute home run. Fantastic job here.

Jets trading a draft pick for a 30 year old safety for their expected playoff run this year. Yes it makes total sense.

Hard to find anything wrong with this one. We needed a real center fielder and got one for a pittance.

I guess my only question is, why has a guy with his ability and performance been traded 3 times?

I just heard on NFL Sirius, on my commute… This is an excellent trade!

It’s just another example of their one foot in, one foot out of a rebuild.

The Jets have two 5ths, three 6ths and two 7ths. There aren’t even roster spots for all those players.

I agree but when you look at the trades in vacuums they all had a reason. The Dolphins traded him way back when because they were trying to make him into a corner and the Steelers turned him into a safety. I think the Steelers traded him because they’re dopes and thought they’d turn Ramsey into a safety ala Rod Woodson.

Now the Dolphins are recouping something instead of outright cutting a player while they tear the roster down.

We add a Fitzpatrick for St. Patrick's Day. Perfect!

Your shtick still sucks. They got a top 10 grade safety for a 7th round pick and paid him $13 mil a year while having over $90 mil on cap space and the 2/16/33/44 picks in April. On what normal rationale not-trolling planet does that kill a rebuild?

Im not gonna pretend he’s the all-pro he was in the past but he’s still very good. Top 10 safety last year by PFF grades… 9th in coverage 17th in run. That’s an above average starting NFL safety and we paid him market value and only had to give up someone else’s 7th. In no way can you say no to that.

I love it so much. Minkah is a classic football player who can do it all. We needed safety in the worst way. Big time upgrade for peanuts

Think about how important Brian Branch was for Aaron Glenn in Detroit. He’s not Branch, but he’s going to play that role and he can do it well.

I like this move. I wish Minkah was a few years younger but still a no-brainer type of move.

Also, Malachi Moore also played at Bama so that is a nice little bonus to a possible back-end pairing.

The point of a rebuild is to reset the roster, throw a ton of young guys in, see who can play and who cant, while building a roster of young, talented players over a few years. My beef is not with the player, he's a fine player, but it again doesnt fit the timeline of what the jets should be doing. Every starting job you give to a 30 year old vet is a job you are not giving to young guys to see if they are your future or not. You are blocking the pathway. Look at the team who traded him away... also going through a rebuild, except they are doing it the right way (i.e. trading away 30 year old players and not paying them tens of millions of dollars). I also dont care that much about the pick, its the starting job and its the $40 million which is in the higher end of safety contracts. If you really needed a stop gap player somewhere, you can get a competent safety to hold down the fort for $3-$8 mil per. Its just poor management of resources by the jets and again straddling the fence of a rebuild. There is no clear plan. Miami is doing the right thing.

Wonder if we still sign a starting caliber safety in FA or roll with Moore

This seems like a good move to me. When you have this much money to spend and this many late round picks, these moves just make sense.

This team isn't going to go into the season tanking.

You are off base here. Jets did a fantastic job here. You can't just sign young guys for every position. You need players in your roster to show young guys how to do it.
