It’s hard for me to imagine any high-end player outside of maybe one or two is a realistic possibility for us. Here within lies the problem with starting Brady Cook and being one of the worst teams in NFL history for the last month of the season just so we can get a better draft pick. The lasting impression and everyone’s mind is that we’re a complete joke which isn’t totally wrong but we made it way harder on ourselves to sell free agents than it needed to be.

We do have a lot of $ that has to go somewhere, I expect us to pony up on atleast one and I figured he was more likely than the other names being floated like Pierce and Linderbaum. Mostly because it's cheaper position to overpay if that makes sense lol

After the Rams made that trade for McDuffie I knew there’s no way Curl was going to be leaving. The Rams are always going all in but they are extra all in now. They only ever acquire and sign good players and they never let anyone good leave. Doesn’t matter the price tag or position or anything really. they are just constantly making smart moves. What a concept.

Here's some good intel from Connor Hughes on X. Carson Wentz feels so Jets. Yikes

The #Jets might not target just one quarterback in free agency. Belief from agents who met with them at the NFL Combine is that they prefer to add two -- if they can. It's similar to what the #Giants did a year ago (Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston). Kyler Murray was discussed, but he is expected to sign with the Vikings, per sources. No Kirk Cousins, but watch Geno Smith & Carson Wentz. There is interest there. Jacoby Brissett, too, if Cardinals can be convinced to part. Was told that's "doubtful," with Jimmy Garoppolo expected to stay in LA. JG signing with the Cardinals would change that. Wentz might surprise some, because of the notion Frank Reich/Wentz relationship fell apart in Indianapolis. From my understanding, that was more GM/owner, not coach. The two remain very close. One source told me that the QB Reich prefers is Wentz. A quote from another: "No one loves Wentz more than Frank."

Wentz can be a backup. Good dude I think, can teach someone the system, if you need to rely on him for 2 games, ok. But if Reich fools Mougey into thinking Wentz is the answer at starting QB then unfortunately he should be shipped out with Glenn when we finish next season with 4 wins.

Hard to believe we’re in a spot where I’m praying for Geno Smith to be our starting QB.

Idk if Connor knows what hes talking about though because Adam Schefter was on ESPN just last week saying he expects Wentz to be back in Minnesota. He did mention Minnesota in the QB market but not that they'd be interested in Kyler Murray. Where Hughes here saying the opposite.

I do trust Schefter's ear on the ground

I'm not sure if Hughes is saying the interest in Wentz is mutual. To me it reads the Jets are interested. And if the Vikings do end up signing Kyler Murray, I doubt Wentz would want to be their third string QB

Schefter's take was someone (cheaper) like Geno Smith going to the Vikings and that QB room being McCarthy, Smith, and Wentz. In that scenario Wentz is just as likely to be the number 3 as he is the number 1 which is probably why he said he expects Wentz back with them.

I agree though if Murray goes there I dont see him wanting to stay in Minny. I just dont see Kyler Murray in Minnesota. One thing to consider is that Minnesota is broke whereas the Jets have a lot of cap space. So IF the Jets wanted Murray they seemingly could outbid Minnesota just fine

There’s not going to be a bidding war though unless we are offering $37 mil in 2026 or offering a multiyear deal. His contract offsets.

Geno officially will be released. Please save us from Wentz.

Well, the Geno Smith I saw in Seattle is night and day better that the rest of the options. The Geno that played in Las Vegas was completely inefficient and I question what went so totally wrong.

Seattle had a good OL and run game. Something we can replicate. Vegas had a horrible OL and that entire situation was a mess the second they hired Pete Carroll. Not that we’re the beacon of stability but we got more going for us than last years Raiders.

The Carson Wentz rumor being true is kinda scary imo since it would strongly suggest to me that Reich is fully expecting to be drafting a QB this year. As that is one of the few ways I could rationalize being in on Wentz but not Kirk Cousins.

There is no way a Gino redemption storyline doesn't end tragically if he were to come back. Too much bad history there for a guy that also appears to be passing out of his prime.

Well, the more I read the more I worry that our options are very slim pickings at best. Names I never even consider a viable option are now surfacing. Frankly is scary.
There are a lot of great contributors on this thread. With such tough conditions, I would be curious to know what you guys consider at least a couple of viable options for us, accepting the limitation that we are probably not spending anymore than a fourth round pick to acquire a one to two year place holder.

Hughes saying Geno and the Dolphins will have mutual interest. Because of course.

Two words: "offensive line" with an emphasis on OFFENSIVE when talking about their "offensive" line. :D

To be honest, Geno wouldn't be a bad choice as a bridge QB. He's been gone so long that, as far as the actual team goes, I don't think there's anyone left who was here when he was so that's irrelevant. Yet another option. I'm not as down on Wentz as many of you are. Hell, if we get the Wentz that played in Minny last year, that's all I'd need for that 1 to 2 year bridge.

    Too funny if Geno returns

Can you imagine the headline on the NY Post?? : “Geno the Jaw” Back to the Jets ..First Jets player in history to have his jaw broken over $600 dispute lol
