I understand what you're saying. It doesn't excite me. I guess I'm traumatized by the Fields disaster and everything that happened lasts season.
Yeah. He got some experience under his belt last season. He wasn't playing with anyone really no Garret, no Mason, Coach gave Breece a early vacation.
He’s one of the worst QBs I’ve ever seen play for the Jets and that bar is extremely high. He shouldn’t be on an NFL roster let alone starting. If he’s back, we didn’t have a good offseason.
Not a bad choice if he's on the cheap. But Reich likes 'em taller and I don't think Murray will want to play (or can play very well) in cold weather.
I mean at some point they need to have a guy under center to be at least competent to run an offense. I feel like the last vet guy they had was Fitz - Rodgers too obviously. I am not a fan of Murray at all, but he is an NFL calibre QB that can play. Will he stay on the field all season, probably not, but with the absolute dog shit this franchise has rolled out at QB they could, and have, done a lot worse than him...
His contract offsets. So the only way he’s going to make more money is if someone pays him more than what he’d have made in Arizona and no one is doing that.
He's produced at an at least consistently solid level already with not great teams. He's way better than Fields. I have more concerns about his work ethic and leadership and that's why I've been out on him. But for the veteran minimum, maybe pair him with a good veteran like a Marcus Mariota in case things go off the rails, it's honestly increasingly tempting
Probably because it's unreasonable to believe any rookie candidate can be an effective NFL starter early in the year he is drafted.
Murray’s a decent NFL quarterback and I think the leadership and character concerns are pretty overblown. The guy looks pissed off when he’s not playing well or winning and he plays a lot of video games. At his best in 2020-2021 he was probably a top 10-12 QB in the league. And he’s not a running QB, he’s a scrambler so it’s a bit different. He’s never taken big hits (he’s too small he knows he has to protect himself) so it’s not like he’s dealing with injury attrition. We could do a lot worse.
I see what you did there. Seriously though, why not. He's a decent starter coming out of a bad situation, could be Darnold 2.0.
Favors is the key word here. Yes, that is his preference, but I don't think he will get his perfect choice this year. Hopefully in the 2027 draft he will. But we are talking about a 1 year veteran bridge for the minimum money. That are pros and cons and height is one of the definite cons. But overall, is there really a better option for Frank than Murray on 1 mil dollar deal? He is is short, was injured, has bad rep for studying, but he does have some talent and is cheap. Yes. not a great option, but we only have bad ones. Yes, and I shitted on Murray a lot when he had 80 mil dollar contract attached with him. But reduce that by 79 mil, and all of the sudden, he is probably the best option we have for a bridge. Basically what I realized is there are no good options this year. we have to focus on drafting a QB in 2027 and picking one of the better out of the shitty veteran options we have this year. I don't know if we will be able to draft a good QB next year, but at least that would be my the plan. Given that, if we can get Murray for 1 mil to start this year, can use the money saved for longer term players, no draft assets to give up, Murray is probably the best option. Add to it another veteran like you suggest, and honestly that may be the best case scenario for us this year out of the shitty options.
As @BroadwayAaron correctly pointed out, 2026 will be dirt cheap because of offsetting language in his contract. However, you do bring up a good point: what if he wants a multi year deal to come there. Russ is a good comparison, but he was older. So it is possible Kyler will take 1.5 in 2026, but would want some guaranteed money for 2027. I would still do it depending on the guarantees, just because the 1st year is so cheap, as long as it averages out to be low. I do think he would only come here if he cannot get a starting job anywhere else. Which might happen.
The ONLY reason I'm not a Titanium "NO" is $1 million. As in the vet minimum. If he costs a penny more than the vet minimum then it's a HELL NO! That kid is the "I need you to blow sunshine up my ass" kind of player and that is NOT a good look for a QB. I'm sorry, but in football, the QB must, unequivocally, be some type of leader. Period. Quiet leader, in your face leader...pick your poison. Nothing I've heard, since he entered the league, says leader in any capacity. However, as stated above, I'm willing to overlook that in the off chance I'm way off base. Besides, apparently he has 2 teams in mind and I can damn well guarantee you the Jets is not one of them. Why would he go from the 2nd or 3rd worse run franchise to #1 in the Jets? THAT alone would tell me his noodle isn't baked properly.
Only if the other teams are not interested to offer him a starting job. What is Miami get Willis and Minny sticks with JJ? Basically Murray would only be interested if there are no other options to start. The question is would other teams want him as unquestioned starter. Probably, but not 100% certain.
I know the pickings are absolute shit, but I just don’t want Murray regardless of cost…I don’t think he is a leader and is not the personality to come here and change our culture…we’d need a Tom Brady type mindset and he is as far from that as you can possibly be. He won’t be a long term answer regardless…I know we need SOMEBODY to play QB, but I just don’t like him as a player or as a leader.
I think there is way too much talk of Minny being interested in a starting QB type at this point for that to not happen. That domino falling, followed by Rodgers deciding to play again in Pitt, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Kyler pick us over Miami if he's still looking for a starter gig. Miami may be a better place to live but that roster situation is a mess. There indeed doesn't appear to be any other options for him after that
Odd that you say that, because.....as I was listening to NFL on Sirius one of the points they were making was Murray NOT wanting to compete for a job. Which blows my noodle as I would think EVERY job, on every team, would be open to competition. That's how you get better. Of all people, I would think Murray absolutely MUST have someone pushing him. At least IMO. I am with you on this but we DO need someone to take snaps. If it's not going to be Fields then it's got to be someone. The same Sirius guys were talking about Jimmy G. going to Arizona! If Jimmy G. would land in Arizona there's not much hope for us to get anyone of any worth. The pickings, this year, are worse than slim. To be honest, I can't remember a time where BOTH the FA market AND the incoming crop from college has been this bad all in the same year. If you don't have a starter there is a tiny # of options and then nothing. Something has gotta give.
I think the culture conversations are overblown. Winning is what causes good culture, and not the other way around. Start winning, and the culture will change. Basically we need to balance which QB gives us the best chance to win in 2026 with minimal investment for that QB, because there are only bridges available. So you want to save assets (both money, which can be used on a longer term player at other positions, and picks) you spend on that bridge. Given minimal salary and no draft capital required Kyler has to be in the conversation. Do we really want to give up a pick for a 1 year rental this early in the offseason? That's why we hear Arizona willing to give Brissett for a day 3 pick. They can get a pick and then just sign say Minshew/Trubisky/Mariotta/Dalton, etc, and they just gained a 4th/5th round pick. I think right now we need to try sign a QB as a FA, whoever that might be, and Kyler is probably the best one available in spite of all issues.
