If we’re truly targeting Simpson you have to trade up from 33 and take him in the first to get the extra year of eligibility. Not that I support this.
I like Simpson and wouldn't object to the pick. However, he looks exactly like the type of QB that the Jets will ruin (and I know we ruin most QBs) - he'd be better off on the West coast sitting for a year.
As I stated, this is based on how they were ranked as prospects going into the draft, not how they fared in the NFL.
Interesting. I was under the impression it was based on the draft prospect rankings from people like Mel Kiper , but yeah, there could definitely be some bias or poor criteria in there, since it's not even mentioned.
Anybody else not able to load the site more than they are able to load the site these days? Bad timing with FA and the draft coming up.
You have to weigh in pros and cons. And drafting him at 16 will effectively preclude us from drafting a QB next year. I know some people say you have to keep drafting every year, but realistically there were not that many Josh Rosens throughout history. And also, the only reason Arizona dumped Rosen is because they got #1 overall pick. We are unlikely to get one. If you pick Simpson at #16, this is it for a while. Now, if they do pick him, I am not going to kill them and we will just have to see how it plays out, but it could be a very damaging pick. Missing on a 1st round QB, especially top half of the draft sets you back years, and in this cases skips a promising 2027 class. If you pick someone, it has be a high probability pick, like I considered Dante Moore to be. Simpson I agree has good qualities, and looked good early last year, but he did become inaccurate, he really was bothered by the pressure towards the end of the season. And many people say that's because he was injured, but that is actually a significant knock against him. He started for 1 year and got injured badly mid season, and then broke his ribs end of season. At 6-1 210lb, how is he going to survive in the NFL if he got seriously injured twice in FBS in the only year he played? And given lack of starts and older age, plus the fact we will have to forego 2027 when it comes to the QBs, I would not pick him. And I understand 2027 is far from guaranteed to have a QB we can pick, but there is some probability there, which you will be forgoing if you take Ty. So, overall, yes I do see some good things in Ty, but there is too much risk involved where I would have to be not only willing to spend #16, but also forego 2027 QB class, which is what will happen if we take him that high. I understand if AG and Glenn do, and would root for him, but it is a VERY risky move. So for me, I wouldn't do it. Maybe in the second round if he is still there, but then again, we can probably get a starter there. But it would be more palatable than 16 for sure.
How about trading the 33rd and 44th pick to jump back into the first round ahead of the Steelers and taking him…
Again I personally wouldn't do it, but I do understand the logic behind it and would root like hell for Simpson if the Jets do.
I'd honestly guess it's probably 50/50 Simpson even makes it past Miami at 11. But I also believe most of the supposed heavy interest in paying out $25m+ per on a guy like Justin Fields, errr I mean Malik Willis, is mostly being driven by the media wanting to see/push something juicy that isn't actually there. I think Arizona is just as likely to try and make the same jump you suggest to snag him. Whoever gets Simpson is going to end up having to reach some to get the #2 QB in this draft. Reaching for him as a potential answer in both those cases makes a lot more overall sense imo then some of these surface level takes that don't even spend a second acknowledging the fairly likely possibility that both Murray and Tua are both better NFL starting QB talents then Malik Willis and his SSS of game manger ball is.
When I evaluate QBs I look for the IT factor first and foremost. That quality of making plays when the game is on the line. With Ty I found he his ability to get his team in the right play, use his superior FBI and excellent mechanics to deliver. His first 5 games he was making a case for the Heisman. The main thing I found was I couldn’t poke too many holes in his game. Even down the stretch when he wasn’t lighting it up like early in the season he was still taking command and showed me some fire in the belly. He had some vanilla body language to him which I didn’t like and some off platform throws I didn’t think was necessary. That immaturity and hero ball plays I feel can get cleaned up. Reich is a perfect coach for him because his mechanics are sound so Reich won’t have to deal with that. He will just have to get him to trust his anticipation throws and he could be a FQB. 2027 has a bunch of QBs I like, especially Mateer and Manning so if they don’t take Simpson things are still good. However, if we do take him and pick high for a chance to take Jeremiah Smith. I’m perfectly fine with that too
Ya I get it, I just feel if Bryce Young and his frail body type can survive, Simpson who physically looks bigger can do it, so can Ty. The combine showed me what I saw on film. He’s got a better arm than most don’t give him credit for and his accuracy is pretty good.
I saw him missing pretty easy passes and getting flustered by the pressure towards the end. Accuracy was a problem. It wasn't just hero ball. He got pressured and hit a few times, and became jittery and accuracy suffered. He didn't really get too much help and I can see the potential, but he is a one year starter and was injured twice, including breaking a rib, which would have kept him out for months if the season kept on going. And this is just one year starting. Small guy like that and keeps getting hurt. Even if he can figure it out, which is far from given, considering he is pretty old and had few starts, which does not translate well, he could be physically broken in the NFL. If he was rushing and making mistakes in College, imagine getting hit by the NFL players at his size. He might beat the odds, because I agree the potential is there, but the odds are very much against him. And again, getting him means passing on 2027 QBs. I am not ready to do that for him. I would do it for Moore, but Simpson carries a lot of risk. Even though we are probably going to win enough games to get out out of very best QBs next year, maybe there is a chance we could be within the range for a good prospect and use assets to move up for one. But I am really worried about a small guy who keeps getting hurt, and didn't exactly contend for Heisman when it was all said and done, because his play dropped off. And on top of it older and has few starts. But most importantly injury prone fragile and small and would force us to miss out on 2027 class.
I read a lot of smoke with little substance about Makai Lemon interview and not paying attention to the coach during one of the underwear drills. I saw the video and was nothing IMO. Apparently the overly staffed bunch of media walkie-talkies and YouTube wanna be evaluators had nothing better to report. If Makai is there at 16 the Jets need to seriously consider him. On the field he is a monster and most effective player. If my memory serves me right his drop rate is almost non existing and a great route runner.
I'd love Makai Lemon but he's another receiver like Wilson that needs to play off the LOS. The Jets are perpetually in need of an X receiver. This is why I want Carnell Tate, he's a bully and wins contested catches. They need someone who can fight through press man and they can only split Taylor out so much of the time. I do think Lemon will be a better version of Z receiver than Garrett Wilson though.
That’s why signing Alec Pierce and taking Lemon or even still taking Tate at that point would be awesome. Tate can play in all three spots I think. He’s that good of a route runner. Pierce is the X we badly need.
