Hearing more abut this draft I am also beginning to think it may not be a bad idea to trade up to get a top tier player like Lemon or Tate. People are saying there may be about 10 really good players, then pretty big drop off. Not sure if true or not, but if we can secure Lemon or Tate with a trade up (probably would need to give up/downgrade #44 overall), I would do it.
I can't endorse a trade up in this draft, especially in the first round when the Jets roster is mostly dogshit and the overall talent level of the draft is so obscure. If the Jets take any trades, I think it needs to be down. That said, I'm good with them trading down from two to ten to see what elite player drops and still net another early pick or two in '26 or '27. Pick ten always feels like a good catbird seat to snatch a player that should have gone top five
No to trading up on the first round for me. You can get top talent up and down the first round., may be not be elite and a sure fire pro bowler but a long term productive top starter, as we have so many top holes to fill, I rather trade down with the first pick a few spots and build more ammunitions and still get a stud. As for the 16th, no I would not trade up, just go and get an awesome LB or CB or a big WR to supplement GW.
Man I really hate that we can’t post links to tweets anymore… Reese spoke this morning and said: -met with Jets, they did a full defensive installation with him -will workout as DL and LB, sees himself playing both -Patricia compared him to Jamie Collins, which I think is close but Reese is more athletic
could trade down, end up with like 5/6/7 range, land Downs and another high draft pick. Honestly probably ideal situation there, of course you need a partner
The way you feel about Reese, Bain and Bailey is probably exactly how everyone else feels about them. No one is giving up hefty capital to move up for any of them. And teams within striking distance can wait it out and have one of the three of them fall into their laps. Basically... we'll be picking at 2.
You know better than this. They are polarizing players in that some folks believe they will be great, some have questions. Just the same, NFL teams show time and again that they’re the same. Some teams didn’t have Hackenberg as even draftable, we took him in the 2nd. There are definitely going to be teams interested in moving up to our pick, as pong as the price is right we should definitely consider it.
I don’t think anyone is buying 2nd overall. As much as I’d like it. I think it’s either Bain or Bailey and I’m leaning Bailey.
Watching Simpson tape again he really is an interesting prospect. I really don’t see any major gaping holes in his game. He’s very intelligent and has an ultra quick reading ability. His arm is good not great but definitely good. He has mobility when plays break down and can pick up first downs with his feet if need be. He has fire in the belly. Flawless mechanics, truly a master of his craft. Starting to warm up to him at 16 simply because he has everything between the ears you are looking for in a FQB and is solid with his tangibles. Now, the lack of live bullets will hurt him with the speed of the game but I think sitting could hurt him. This is usually the opposite of what I usually like to do with developing a QB but with Simpson specifically I think he’s got to keep playing and take these live bullets in stride.
Bain is really my number 1 choice, the way he talks and his tape, he just pops as a franchise cornerstone. He seems like workhorse in his game He mentions Jets here and their interview https://x.com/i/status/2026813560077062316
What did you think of the last 1/3d part of the season? Before that he was pretty much consensus top 5, but then plummeted.
I don't know anything about this stuff, but I did hear one analyst say that Bain has perfect technique, which often mitigates his lack of long arms. I don't know which is more important and it's not for me to decide. I'm sure there are also many other factors that are considered. If I was an expert in this stuff, I would be working for a NFL team, but instead I'm working in a boring corporate job.
I'll admit I'm not a college guru or understand the nuance but three thoughts: 1) I think the tape is more reliable indicators for a DE than many other positions. E.g., QB may be affected by having an elite college OL, multiple NFL-caliber receivers, depth, offensive scheme, etc. But it seems to me DE is pretty much are you better than the guy in front of you. And if the guy in front of you is elite college level and you're beating them, then that says something. 2) the discussion about arm length reminds me of terrell Suggs who dropped because of arm length concerns despite elite college production 3) the chatter might be an attempt by others to get Bain to drop, just like touting someone as Parsons 2.0 could be the opposite. I'm not smart enough to filter the signal from the noise, but disinformation is real.
Bain's measurables are a red flag. They just are. He's going to have to be a huge outlier if he's going to be top tier. 6'2" 263 30 7/8" arms 77 1/2" wingspan That's so far from prototypical that it scares me.
Well given the JJ trade that just went down and the apparent move to more 3-4 looks, it is starting to feel like Reese may be the better fit for what they want to run on D next year…we’ll see
https://x.com/nfldraftscout/status/2027052629818212448?s=20 That's some damning evidence. Like I said he's going to have to be a HUGE outlier for this to work.
