    Yeah…

On admitting he’s part of the problem, though, when you fire just about everyone else it kind of feels like you’re pointing the finger at others, not at yourself. However, what is he going to do? Other than fire himself, not sure how he would show that humility.

Ah well…I think Woody SHOULD have fired AG, much like the Pats did with Mayo after a bad year, but we can’t do much about that.

All we can do is hope that AG learned a few things, that these new coaches are better than the guys they are replacing, and that we go on from here.

The way I see it, yeah, keeping him was a peak of stupidity, but it would have been even more stupid for Glenn to quit and lose 40 mil. So with him staying a given, I am actually glad the he is fundamentally changing his coaching staff. He is trying something different. That takes balls. Calling plays on defense was the right move. Literally every coach who can call plays - does it in today's NFL. Including the SB winning coach calling plays on defense. Glenn is no MacDonald, but he did call average or top 10 defense in his last two years in Detroit. It's not impossible to be average there.

I also like Reich, given the options we had, and the way Reich is building his staff, we are infusing young analytical talent to compliment old OC. We still need to make a good QB coach hire. But so far so good there. Of course chances of success are small based on the coaching Glenn showed so far, and with no shot at good QB, it's an uphill battle. Chances are we are going to be back on the tank by October, but he is doing everything differently now, which I respect, and you just never know until you play the games... Let's see how it plays out.

Agree with your response. We can only go so far without a top QB, but I do expect significant progress on both side of the ball, and some sort of a roadmap to get a better hold your fort QB now and draft our long term solution.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I just saw that we signed Bill Musgrave as our new QB coach

He’s been an OC and QB coach at several places, but honestly I don’t know enough about him to say if this is a good hire or not

I will say, though, just based on backgrounds and experience, that I’m feeling better about this coaching staff on offense with Reich and now at least an experienced QB coach instead of a former RB or WR or whatever the fuck London was.

Hopefully our offense will start to look a bit better…still obviously depends on the QB but so far, I gotta say I’m cautiously optimistic about these moves…

On one hand the Browns are the only team besides us you wouldn’t want to pluck a QB coach from. On the other hand… worked for three years under Stefanski and has a ton of experience.

I agree, at least on paper to me looks like good blend of youth and experience, especially considering that we are not a super desirable destination and people are not exactly clamoring to come here. In spite of how this process transpired, I am actually pretty happy with the outcome. Will it work? Probably not, but I do think Glenn put his best foot forward here and we gotta see it play out.

    Encouraging:

“On gray February days, Reich meets with offensive assistants at One Jets Drive. Together, they envision a system that will take the best of what he has done and blend it with the best of what they have done. There will also be fresh concepts like more passing off wide zone, he says, but that probably will depend on which quarterback the Jets settle on.

He plans to dial up wide receiver Garrett Wilson’s number frequently. Reich says he’s looking for ways to get him lined up at X, F and Z, depending on the formation and play concept.”

From a pretty good overall read:

Good article. But sounds very similar to what we heard last year. Blend things, GW used frequently, more movement, etc... Remains to be seen what Frank can do, it definitely has a great chance of spectacular failure. However there is a non zero probability of some level of success as well - Riech did have success and it was not THAT long ago. We do need to get at least a baseline level QB. Then perhaps there is some small chance.

You mentioned the big difference: Reich has done it before. There’s a track record of doing what he has to do to get the most out of what he has. TBD but I buy his words more than anyone else’s on the staff.

I guess, I mean it's been 5 years and he wasn't exactly sought after since Carolina. But I do think he has a chance to succeed and I like the hire. I am just not sure how big this chance is, especially with no path to a good QB. At this point, all of these ideas are good and everything, but I have to see it to really believe it.

Yeah for sure I think we are mostly all of us fully in “show me don’t tell me” mode

But I do feel better about having Reich as OC than pretty much any OC we’ve had here in a long time…we’ve mostly had rookies (MLF, Tanner) or chumps like Hackett…I think he’s got a better chance at success since at least he’s done it before…honestly I like the hire … like you say, not sure if it’ll work, but of all the changes Glenn has made, I think this is a good one

LaFleur was good and is now a head coach and Tanner got scooped up immediately while he probably gets a second crack as an OC the season after next.

So yeah, I’m OK with Reich and I think he’s adaptable to the league and most importantly his players. But scheme didn’t seem like a huge problem last year.

Yeah agreed…I didn’t hate either of MLF or Tanner…I think they were both kind of scapegoated for terrible QB play…MLF with Zach and Tanner with Fields/Cook, so not ALL their fault really.

So really what I think I’m feeling is more like at least Reich has had clear success in the past…he has experience and should be able to hit the ground running.
