I wish I could "like" this a million times! Also, good luck "hiding" those report cards. That kind of stuff will always get leaked no matter what.
I put this in another thread but it needs to be here. Look I know both Jake Asman and Manish are polarizing but please give this a chance, especially you Jets79 because I know you don't like to watch or listen to this kinda stuff. Manish goes in depth into the dysfunction that is the Jets and it's the closest I have come to jumping ship with this team. I had very little hope before listening to this interview, I have none now unless something changes at the top. https://www.youtube.com/live/kpqLwcccO48?si=MWa8lmYsKPThsrg6
If it’s true, what a thin skinned loser. When an owner answers criticism by getting rid of a system that made it public, that says a lot about why this franchise is such a mess. Players are evaluated nonstop. Coaches are scrutinized and fired over results. Those are things that the public are aware of. That’s reality of the NFL. If everyone else in the building is graded and judged publicly, why does ownership get to opt out? If this guy can’t handle honest feedback, it’s hard to believe anything will actually change. It makes you wonder what happens internally when staff say something he doesn’t want to hear? Does it lead to real conversations, or does it just teach people to stay quiet to protect their jobs?
Classic woody Johnson. He gets bad feedback and instead of fixing it, he threatens a lawsuit so he can’t get feedback anymore
I like Jake and I did listen to the whole thing. But this is where we have to use common sense and evidence. 1st, let's consider the source. He was fired form Daily News with "a major catalyst was a report that Mehta had approached the 11-year-old son of Jets General Manager Joe Douglas at a youth baseball game. He was also accused of "stalking" Jets owner Christopher Johnson at the NFL Combine... Ethical Reporting Breaches: Former colleague Charles McDonald alleged that while Mehta was banned from Jets facilities, he forced other reporters to provide him with quotes and observations, which he then published as his own without attribution to maintain the appearance of continued access... Locker-Room Bullying: A dossier compiled by a law firm for the Jets detailed a history of aggressive and inappropriate behavior toward players, staff, and fellow journalists, including threats of negative coverage if interview requests were denied." The guy has awful reputation of being unethical and has major beef with Johnsons, in particular Christopher. Now that does not mean everything he says is false. Let's move to the actual claims why the Jets have "no hope." The biggest claim by far was financial. He gave several examples, which suggested Woody didn't want to spend. I looked in sportrac how much cash Woody was actually spending since 2020. Here are the ranks: 3, 12, 16, 5, 21, 30. Average recent rank: 14.5. Top half, and considering teams with FQBs tend to pay more, and we do not have that expense, it's not that bad. It certainly does not paint the dire picture of hopeless bottom tier franchise that Manish was trying to paint. In other words Manish was completely full of shit on his #1 claim. Woody is extremely dumb, but he is not cheap. If we can ever get a good QB here, which requires major spend, there is reason to believe Woody could be spending even more. One other big example of being dysfunctional Mehta cited was Ira Axelrod, who does negotiations with coaches and GMs. He said it was very dysfunctional when Ira wanted to give Douglas 2 mil a year (for 5 years = 10 guaranteed) but ended up giving 20: Douglas got 3.3 for 6 years (for total of 20 mil guaranteed). He literally said this was dysfunctional. But was it? Seems like a pretty reasonable deal for a GM. Now the dumb part was that he did not fire Mac in January, but if Douglas were any good, longer term it would not have mattered. The point is, Mehta is saying Ira is playing too big of a role in negotiations/budget being a problem, and I just don't see it as a problem at all. Douglas had good reputation, the contract was fine, who cares if the starting offer was 2 mil? Even if true, seems like normal negotiations. And even Mehta admitted Ira has no say in personnel. Johnson also spends top half of the League. This does not point to any structural disfunction. He brought up a point about Woody not having connections, which is why he used consultants and than Tanny, and that actually made sense. But he then said Glenn and Bob were not coveted HC or they would not come here, which is simply not true. Glenn had NO (EDIT: NO = New Orleans Saints) job lined up, and Bob is coaching again already and was a finalist in Jax last year. The point is, Woody is dumb and picks the wrong people, and that's it. It's not this structure where Ira negotiates contacts or Hymie plays some role. That's all BS. Connections play a role, but with a little bit of intelligence it can be overcome. Unfortunately that's the part where Woody is lacking, not some dysfunctional structure or anything like that. And maybe if he fires Glenn next year but keeps Mooge and let Mooge hire another coach, things could change.
I've dealt with this team losing most of life with hopeful optimism (and it was a family bond with us across the country).... but I'm finally getting close to end of the string thanks to this clown.
