Not that Carr coming to NYJ for the 2026 season is realistic, -- but how in the hell would he have been a bad choice 3yrs ago? Please help me understand how it would have gotten worse than 7-10 in 2023, --- 5-12 in 2024, ---- and 3-14 in 2025? Not to mention the two 2nd round draft picks we had to give up to get Rodgers that we wouldn't have needed to trade in order to sign FA Carr. Nor the 2025 3rd round draft choice we traded to get Davante Adams in order to try & make Rodgers happy.
Rumor mill has it that Derek Carr is coming out of retirement and will be speaking with the Jets/Aaron Glenn. I just heard a blurb on the radio that he was hinting at such on his podcast. Take it for what it's worth, I guess. I'm not sure if this has been discussed over the last couple of pages. EDIT: I see it was in the last couple of posts (sort of), so ha, nevermind.
One thing being a terrible decision (Rodgers) doesn't mean the other option (Carr) was good, or even any better.
I dunno, I think we really wasted a year of guys like Taylor, Mitchell, Metchie, etc. because we didn't have a QB that could play at an NFL level. There's so much that's affected in terms of evaluation when you're not playing competitive football in almost any way. But we're not gonna tank, teams don't do that. So I'm gonna root for Olu, Membou, Tippmann, Braelon Allen, AD, Metchie, Moore, AZ, Kiko, and the four top-44 guys we add to get better and help us win games, setting the table for the next season. Not saying that's likely in any way but to me it's hands down the better option.
Only thing I can think of is this line has the potential to be the best line Carr ever had. He basically got his ass kicked his entire career. Spit balling ideas…
Carr isn't coming out of retirement to QB for a bottom dweller team like the Jets. We'd probably have a better probability chance of convincing Aaron Rodgers (who like last winter is still probably the best and highest floor QB production option realistically available) to resign here. And we know that isn't happening lol
He's the only 40k passer in history with 0 playoff wins and he just retired due to injury. Plus he wears eyeliner. I don't know how many mid level teams are going to start him and I doubt he wants to be somebody's backup.
I don't think the idea of Carr is so far fetched. Coming off shoulder injury and missing a year, he is not exactly a hot commodity. He had his best season under Musgrave, we have a good OL, we can offer a starting spot. I don't know if he will have too many better options to be honest is the Jets do want him. Not saying he is a lock to come here, but this is not a completely crazy unrealistic idea. And with the QB options as bad as they are, Carr and Cousins are probably close to the top of the list.
The only thing is, I typically start the tank once it is clear we are not making play-offs. Usually October. So for now I am hoping that we somehow will have a chance this year, as unlikely as it sounds, and then back to default tank mode once we actually suck. But yeah, without a QB we are not going anywhere long term. The worst thing is 5-7 win season: outside of top QBs in the draft yet still suck ass like we always do.
Starting early Oct when we were 0-4 would not have been late. Or you think we should start the tank now, basically with game 1?
I honestly have no idea. I have no idea what I want (based on what is available or plausible) or what this franchise will actually do. I think you almost HAVE to take a flyer on one of the QBs later in the draft though.
People are wrong about Carr not entertaining the Jets. Carr had some of his best seasons ever with Musgrave as his offensive coordinator and we just hired him as QB coach. Carr is def going to be interested. I think he could be a very good bridge option but I do worry a little about the health of his shoulder. That's why he retired initially he had rotator cuff issues that hindered his arm strength. If he got surgery while he was out and the arm looks good then hell yeah lets get him
3 years ago Derek Carr cost $150 million. This offseason he's coming back for a short term deal worth peanuts compared to that. He's a fine option in that spot
I think we should go with a free agent at qb, until we have a surefire draft option at qb Build the team around a few core pieces. We have a lot of draft capitol. We shouldn't waste our picks trying to make a qb happen.
"New York finds itself in quarterback purgatory entering the offseason." Joke's on them... the Jets are the curators of Quarterback Purgatory.
