Mac drafted him which was very ironic….. I remember Mac was a staunch anti-domestic violence advocate. So not only did he and his scouts drop the ball regarding his playing skills they didn’t vet him properly either ….
We blew a first round pick on this guy while actual LBs Shobert, Deion Jones, and Jaylan Smith were still on the board. All 3 became pro bowlers. All we got was a felon.
I’m not sure but it’s a character issue. If he displayed a domestic issue trait which finally led to a murder which included more than one run in with the law I doubt he was ever a model citizen. Something was always seemed off about him.
Oh I know. We remember the public fracas where Leonard Super Bowl Williams corralled him like a little boy. I'm just saying that all of these flags may not have been there or known to McCagnan. I bet they may have been to Urban Myth Meyer. Even from a football perspective it was a bad pick.
The one positive I can say about Mac is that he had Darnold rated as the #1 QB of the draft - and executed a trade that was good enough to land him. It was the right move - teams have given up more in that situation. Unfortunately he had no control over the coaching aspect. Nobody would be giving any second thought to those two second rounders he traded away to move up if Sam was holding that SB trophy in a Jets uniform.
I heard about this yesterday. He was a loose cannon, not surprised. That poor woman, that's horrific. I guess we'll find out if she had a restraining order but a lot of good that it did her. Bad player, worse person. I think, as a society, we have become so desensitized to violence that people lose sight of how evil it truly is to take someone else's life, especially with purpose and planning. And something like this, even if there was no "premeditation, I posit that if you're beating someone or you're stabbing someone, you know full well the possibility of that outcome. Things such as these are really the only time that I wish I believed there was something beyond taking a dirt nap.
