Yeah, fair enough. If somehow Nuss is there after two rounds, he is worth considering perhaps as a cheap back-up option with some potential, but at this point my default position is, just punt on the QBs in 2026, and let's hope we will be in range for a good one in the 1st round next year.

I think part of the dilemma is if you tank in 26, it's probably a new coaching staff so they don't /won't want to tank. If you have a developmental qb in 26, will you know enough about him or will you take another qb high in 27? I actually don't have a problem taking a qb each year until you have one and then take one developmental guy in mid rounds every other year. They can be huge trade chips if done correctly but we haven't shown that ability yet.

If you go vet qb and a developmental qb, I like pairing Cousins with Simpson. They kind of look similar styalisticly to me. You would have to be upfront with Cousins. He is the starter and mentor and should start almost all year or if team doing well, all year. It changes how you draft and approach free agency.

I'm all-in on that approach to QB drafting and development. The Cousins-Simpson concept doesn't excite me, but there are bigger things to hate. Plus, I've got this haunting suspicion that hiring Frank Reich means we're likely to make a big play for Carson Wentz, and I'm trying to figure out how I feel about that.

Simpson should sit behind someone like Cousins but I dont think that plan works here. Through injuries or attrition, a rookie QB is going to see the field for the rebuilding Jets in 2026 without a doubt. And Ty Simpson with his limited physical abilities and small frame is a disaster in that spot :(

Honestly, I wouldn't want Simpson (or another rookie) an injury away from touching the field in year one (unless he's absolutely lighting it up and way ahead of the curve). I'd want a vet bridge and vet backup.

I’m not sold on Simpson … outside of a few Alabama QBs like Tua or Hurts, Simpson seems a lot more like the many guys there who were good enough for college with that stacked team but who were not NFL caliber QBs…he seems more Greg McElroy than Jalen Hurts to me…

According to what some Jets podcasters said, Alabama was far from being stacked this past season.

With regards to Simpson, I'm playing devil's advocate against the naysayers. I don't know enough to say how good of a prospect he is. I know I liked his highlight tape, but that doesn't mean much. First, I'll address his inexperience. He did sit on the bench for 2 or 3 years at Alabama, so he had a long learning period. Second, his injuries. Some Jet Youtubers are saying that the talent around him was weak and that included the AL o-line. Having a good o-line is a big factor in reducing injuries. Look at Joe Burrow as an example. The Jets have a good o-line, but there is room for improvement.

I'll be "Frank" here, you like that one?? lol

Seriously, I'll be "Frank" here (did it again!), I don't hate Carson Wentz coming to this team. Wentz, keep Fields and Taylor as backups and throw Cook away...like, yeah, away. He should be in Canada or on an XFL field somewhere. Wentz, Fields/Taylor is a good start and depth. If a QB lands at 44 on down they like, then you take him and put him on the PS to learn. Go into 2027 with a plan to take a FQB. As much as I'd love to start Fields for all of 2027, ensuring the #1 pick in the draft, it's just not realistic. That WILL get the coaching staff fired, regardless. Either 2026 is a KNOWN throw away year or they are going to try and win football games, which, unfortunately for Jets fans, is what they are paid to do. They're paid to NOT get the 1st pick in the draft.

I’m glad you said it, not me. :)

While I’m at it, for anyone targeting Ty Simpson in the first or second rounds, can you explain why? One that doesn’t recite some online draft profile. Promise I’m not just sporting for a fight. If you point out something I’ve missed, I swear I’ll take a step back and consider it. Plus, it’s not like I’m looking to not find a QB solution. I just haven’t seen anything in Ty Simpson that says he’s it. But I’m willing to listen.
