https://x.com/i/status/2019052051997565236 Schefter Source: the Jets are hiring former Panthers and Colts HC Frank Reich as their offensive coordinator. Reich also was Stanford’s interim head coach last season, but now he returns to the NFL. https://x.com/i/status/2019053165476483432
Would have preferred to keep Tanner. This is not a bad place to arrive though, even if the path was fucking stupid. Now hire a staff. Would love to get Roman here to run the ground game.
https://x.com/i/status/2019055645471789461 Per a Rosenblatt For those saying "Aaron Glenn just hired his replacement", I'll point you to what Boomer Esasion (a close friend of Reich) said on @WFAN660 yesterday: "He’s doing it to support his buddy and somebody he believes in." "The guy I know does things for friends with a level of humility and support and a lack of back stabbing and shivving." Reich was closer to retirement than taking another job like this. I don't think he took this job thinking he'd be a head coach again, for whatever that's worth.
If he is truly like this then good karma will find both Glenn and Reich. Now they just gotta work well together...and find a quarterback that is worth a damn for 1 year before we draft a big one in 2027
Congrats to Frank Reich on becoming the 12th different play caller for the New York Jets during this 15 year (and counting) playoff drought.
He was the interim head coach at Stanford and might end up being the interim head coach here too. I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if Glenn doesn’t make it through the full season.
I'm a big fan of this hire. I like the experience that Frank brings both as a strong SB-winning OC but also as an ex-HC. Hopefully if things are moving too fast for AG, Reich can help him and guide him. Whatever you may think about Tanner, that's one thing he cannot provide to AG that Frank Reich can
At 64 with a ring and a successful career behind me I wouldn't be taking any job where I might need to take on MORE responsibility halfway through.
Really seems like he is just here to bail out Glenn to try and save some face. They will all be gone by the end of the season, he just wants it to look more respectable and Woody wants to get another year out of his 50mill.
I was only 11, but I still remember watching with my dad that insane comeback win he had as Buffalo QB in the 93 playoffs. Down 35 - 3 in the 3rd or something? Nuts. Jets need all the positive vibes they can get. This hire seems/sounds pretty positive right now.
