Another one bites the dust! I just wonder who is dumb enough to take the OC/DC jobs here next year. If they thought they had issues getting a DC to take an interview I wonder who they think is willing to take a job where 90% chance he gets fired….
Connor Hughes is saying Glenn wanted a new player caller and to get one he was pitching HC of the offense to Reich and other candidates. I would imagine Tanner didn't like that none too much. Perhaps the delay in firing Tanner was that Glenn wanted someone to be interested and now got one. Without that he could not let go of Tanner.
Speaking of OC's, looks like Daboll is joining Saleh in Tennessee...one less candidate. Not that he would come here but, since we are noting OC's, thought it interesting.
I think they basically got Reich at this point, just need to fulfill Rooney rule now. Everyone but Glenn is effectively gone. I just think he would not fire Tanner unless he knew he was getting someone, and there was a lot of smoke about Reich.
Hard to argue that. I'd have preferred AG and Mougey fired as well. This is Woody Johnson's Jets though. No strategic oversight in the FO. If they get Frank Reich over Engstrand, I'm ok with that though. Team needs some experience (and possibly a future interim HC). I doubt Engstand was going to stay for a demotion, although I'd have been fine with that.
I don't think this is as bad as everyone is acting like. AG obviously doesn't trust Engstrand on offense. It seems to me that AG is going to run the defense and wants someone to handle the offense and not be involved. I see it a little bit like McVay and Wade Phillips. Now is AG any good at calling the defense, I don't know. DVOA for Detroit was top 10. Can Reich have a successful offense? Also, do you think AG or Engstrand picked the RB coach to be the QB coach?
We are not getting a stud DC. Leonard who I wanted is not coming. Let AG sink or swim with his choices. He obviously didn't trust Engstrand and seems to trust Reich. Our offense looked like shit, our defense looked like shit, our ST was good. All the shit got fired. Should Glenn be fired, probably, but it isn't like we were getting harbaugh anyway. We would be competing with Cleveland for the worst candidate. We already have that, so let it ride.
Whenever I looked at a picture of Dowell Loggains, he looked like a poorly developed clone of Patton Oswalt. Yikes.
Well for one he thought Justin Fields was sufficient at QB, with no veteran competition or consideration of drafting a QB. We could've traded up for Dart, and i wanted to. Two, he had a firesale on the team, just like JD did. He's repeating two of JD's biggest mistakes already in year 1. What do you think a firesale sends to the team and even coaching staff mid year from a messaging standpoint? Remember they tried selling off several other players as well. It tells the team that the FO is not interested in competing, and doesn't think they are good enough to win. Is it any wonder why the team quit when the FO did the same? AG is the new Gase, and Mougey is another JD. The problem is Woody promoting glorified scouts to run the entire strategy of a team with zero oversight. Scouts will do what they do, and have the arrogance to think they just needed more time and draft capital. Winning and being competitive is not part of the equation. In fact, they feel rewarded for losing. This is where a strong ownership will have voices over the GM, and accountability, and will challenge major decisions. The Jets lack that, and Mougey is not the answer to overcome an organization with no strategy. This season is on him as much as Glenn.
You know what hit me as soon as I read this? My initial reaction was: Great…here’s yet another all time terrible coach that Glenn is in the same conversation as…. As in, if we are even having a conversation like … well, is Glenn as bad as XX? So far, we can say that yes, comparing Glenn to guys like Gase, Kotite, Jackson…if we even have to say it, then he IS in that conversation. And that’s fucking terrible.
https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/2016225216276414590 "Jets HC Aaron Glenn and Tanner Engstrand had multiple conversations about the role moving forward. Ultimately, they made the mutual decision to move on. The Jets’ search for a new OC will start immediately." What were the conversations like I wonder? Tanner, I am getting Frank Reich but I will keep you on to serve coffee and strudel to him. No, Aaron, let me go! Ok fine. Also don't they mean the search will END immediately?
