I wouldn't mind keeping him but it's kind of the same thing, I don't know that his heart would be in it. The Jets have not done themselves any favors to make it a desirable job for hired guns. Coffee is for closers.
Not why bother. But we will have to overpay any free agent compared to what other teams would offer in most cases. That’s been our history, and under prior GM’s (looking at YOU, Mac) we even just overbid despite no other real competition. Let’s face it, we are a fucking dumpster fire with a bad HC and a clueless owner…any player with multiple options (especially if they are winning teams like KC, Den, etc.) will only choose us instead if we offer a significantly better financial deal. Just common sense
Which is exactly why we should transition tag him (projected 11 mil) if he does not sign our extension. That's basically right in line with his projected annual salary. And if he does decide to go to KC, Denver, etc, we match it and keep him. Easy as 1+1 indeed in this case as @WarriorRB28 pointed out. You cannot stop any other FA from going to the better teams, but we can and must stop Breece. These are the CBA rules, and we need to use them to our advantage. Simple.
It’s not common sense, it’s reality. The Jets made this bed, it IS reality and we are all living in it.
These scenarios almost never work out. If Hall is disgruntled now this scenario will double/triple the problem.
We could get something in a trade if it happens. But I am not giving him away now when we have some control.
I would pay AVT and let Hall walk. You can't have players here with that old regime mindset.. I feel like Hall has a very selfish loser mentality when it comes to this team, he is worried about what others perceive him as on this team. Almost embarrassed to play for this team, too good of a "talent" for this team.. etc... Can't have it. I'd let him walk, send a message, it'll never work if they keep him here. I just think we can find some guys that actually want to be here in the backfield, who might be smarter to boot, if I'm honest.
I get the thinking, but this “sending a message” is kind of BS…what message? Basically we’d be saying go ahead and bitch and moan and we’ll let you go so you can go sign for a much better team and get out of this shitshow. That’s the message The only guys who would be worried about getting cut are the bottom of the barrel fringe guys who think that man, if I can’t make it with a bottom feeder like the Jets, I can’t make it in this league at all. Because sure as shit, guys with talent, like Hall, will have NO issue finding a job. If we let Hall go, he’ll have a choice of teams wanting to sign him. so yeah, I get not wanting disgruntled players and all, but I don’t think there is any message to send really. Not like players are dying for the chance to play for a lame duck coach in a dumpster fire franchise…
Who cares? If they bitch and moan, they shouldn't be here anyway. Why hold on to toxic things/people that don't serve the main goal? Let him go. You send a message of not tolerating people that don't want to be here, that are not bought in, and do not contribute towards a winning culture. Keeping a bunch of pussies on the team, that will half ass it once they get their bag, isn't smart. Talent doesn't mean anything without heart.
Yes, we could. Tag and trade has been done before, though not very common, but not prohibited by the rules. I would just keep Breece though. No need to open another hole and Breece is above average player for sure.
he would absolutely kill it in KC. It would be like the Giants losing Barkley or like us watching Darnold play for the Super Bowl because KC would be right there next year riding Breece to the bowl
No it wouldn't. Breece couldn't hold Barkley's jockstrap as a RB. Not sure why some Jets fans overrate this guy so much. He's above average but nothing more.
If Mougey has a SHRED of "good guy" in him he'll just let Breece quietly leave. It would NOT shock me in the slightest, if they were to tag him, he sits out. I don't care if his position IS RB.
Why should he let him go? What has Hall done above and beyond what he's supposed to be doing? Mougey's job is not to be a good guy; it is to build a top quality football team. The NY Jets do not owe Hall, or any other guy, anything not enunciated in his contract.
Karma goes both ways and this teams needs fuckin' something. Was just spit balling. I understand the business side. If anything, the Jets have underutilized the man in vast ways.
I don't see Hall as the kind of player who can take over a game like the best running backs can. He's a good player, but not a dominating player, not since his injury anyway. That said, we have to have something to build an offense around and if we let him go we'll have to draft someone. I'd like to see our picks go on a pass-rusher, a wide receiver and help for the linebacker corps. Letting a good running back go and hoping to find a good running back with one of our higher picks doesn't seem to make much sense. We're in such a mess, though, because we're probably not getting our quarterback of the future in this draft. Everything else is just rearranging the furniture.
