Nailed it. A few posters here wanted him fired before the season started or within the first few weeks. Not sure where the bias is coming from but it's obvious.

Saying that thought process makes no sense makes you a Glenn supporter in 2026.

There is absolutely nothing saying this is what would happen.. We know what is out there this year.. We don't know who will be there next.. Why not pull the bandaide off now and at least try.

It doesn't make sense at all. He's not the only one that doesn't agree or think it makes any sense.

The only way it makes sense if you are on team Glenn. That's it.

If so.. That's an entirely different conversation than what's being had now.

Ummm...did you just use the NY Jets and "Prime landing spot" in the same sentence? I don't give a shit if the Jets are the ONLY open HC'ing vacancy. NO ONE of substance coming to this absolute shit stain of an organization. Period. NO ONE of consequence is going to put his career on the line for this unpolished turd.

Bowles and Saleh were both top ranked candidates the years we hired them. So yeah I don’t believe that.
Who would you hire that’s available right now? Let’s assume all the candidates that were hired already weren’t available to the Jets.

The Jags OC seems to be a leading candidate for the Bills' job. Young X's and O's guy though, the type of hire we never make.

but supposedly this was not about winning and losing, thats what I was responding to. So he wanted Glenn fired after 6 weeks and it wasn't because the team was losing. That's very irrational

The guy who just took himself out of the running for the Browns job to either go to Buffalo or stay in Jax as an OC. Yes I’d interview too but we have real world evidence to suggest that he wouldn’t entertain us.

Sorry…absolutely NOT giving a pass for either the QB (he fucking CHOSE him), or the traded away players (again, he was part of that decision process), but regardless, our defense sucked balls even before those trades.

    No fucking excuses here.

Again, I think the point is not that we were losing games…I think most everyone expected us to lose games…Vegas was what, like 5 games line? My personal posts on this board were also 5 give or take a win up or down. We failed to meet even those low projections.

But the point is not that we lost games, it’s HOW we lost them. We were not competitive in almost every game…most of them looked better than they really were because we got a few garbage time scores (Tampa is a good example). We set all time NFL records for futility…how do you go an ENTIRE year with no picks…and only 3 takeaways on D. Our HC was a fucking CB for fucks sake. No excuse.

Outside of the stats, which were all time NFL futility level…just watching the teams…the ol’ eye test… looked horrendous. This was not a young hungry team running around playing hard…this was an uninterested unmotivated team going through motions. It was pitiful to watch.

And then you can look at the players and see that just about every one regressed under this coaching staff. We had former fucking All Pro’s in Sauce, Q, and Quincy all look disinterested. They didn’t suddenly lose talent…at least not to this extent. That’s the difference between the former coaches maximizing these players and the current coaches not knowing how to do that.

I don’t understand how this is not on coaching. This excuse of “well no one could win with this roster” is total horseshit. No one expected playoffs with this roster. But fuck all, AG had a huge hand in crafting this roster…he COULD have kept Rodgers right? He had a hand in all of it. So no excuses, because not only was he part of the decision making process, but again, it’s not that we lost so many games…it’s how we looked losing them.

A better owner would see this (Kraft) and not waste another year.

I get we are a dumpster fire destination and we weren’t going to get a guy like Harbaugh or Tomlin in any way shape or form.

But…we COULD have gotten McCarthy…he wanted this job a couple of years ago, right? We could have had a shot at a guy like Stefanski…having so many picks would be a huge enticement. Sure, we may have to overpay or give more control or something, but staying the course with a proven shitty coach who is in the conversation with losers like Gase and Kotite … that’s not particularly exciting to me.

And it sure crushes out all hope.

I would guess, or at least speaking for myself…even with all these picks, I have zero confidence that we will get better next year or the year after. I have no hope as long as Woody keeps making the wrong decision time and time and time again…

I could be wrong but I think what @NOVAJET was getting at was that there were very coach-specific things Glenn was doing poorly very early in the season. So it wasn't exactly about wins and losses but rather the specific shortcomings of Glenn (which yeah, led to losses).

One example for me early on was Glenn's 4th down decisions. He was clearly winging it when deciding whether to go for it or not. The smart coaches have 4th down decisions down to a science at this point. They have a guy in their ear telling them whether it's +EV to go for it or not depending on time remaining, score, field position, opponent, everything.

I saw a tweet the other day about how the Rams' defensive coordinator did a deep dive on fumbles before this season and mapped out exactly how every single fumble in the league was forced (punch, rip, helmet when tackling, etc.) over the past several years. As a result, the Rams were near the top of the league for fumbles forced this season.

Do you ever see our defenders try to punch out the ball? I don't. It's not exactly a coincidence we forced so few turnovers this year.

We're just immensely outmatched on the coaching front.

Personally, I think we would have had a shot with McCarthy…he wanted this job before and now we have more picks and more cap space. Not saying it’s a slam dunk clearly as he was smart to choose Pitt and would 1000 times over us, but had we moved fast, we could have hired him before that was an opportunity for him.

I also think we could have had a shot with a guy like Stefanski…Atlanta is no great shakes, and I don’t know what he thinks of Penix but it’s not like he’s walking into a great QB room there either…the picks would be an enticement I think could at least get a conversation.

I don’t see a lot of buzz around a guy like Kingsbury…he probably would have taken a call.

There is/will be a lot of buzz around Kubiak I’m sure, and I also don’t think Darnold would have a lot of great things to say about us to him if asked (though I’m only guessing here)…so he seems like a candidate who would most likely have better opportunities (Buffalo?)

Shit, I’d take Daboll over Glenn as well and don’t know if we’d have a shot with him but possible.

At this point now, it’s kinda late in the game, and would be a weird time to fire AG now so I think we are stuck with him next year and have to hope that either he improves and shows that he’s learned from this year (but if I have to hear “trust me” without any fucking backup on why we should…) or else hope the opposite and that he just goes 0-7 again and Woody blows a gasket and fires him mid-season.

Either way, not much we can do, but to just think that we should stick with him because it could get worse makes zero sense…

I couldn't disagree more strongly on your point about coaches having 4th down decisions to a science.

I mean have you watched the playoffs? Multiple teams have botched 4th down calls this postseason and are seeing their season end because of it. Including Sean Payton yesterday and the Jacksonville coach you just said you want to hire from...

Yeah, it’s weird … while watching that game, a low scoring game…I was shocked at Payton’s decision there…take the fucking points. ESPECIALLY in a low scoring game.

Didn’t agree with McVay’s call either.

Don’t know why so many coaches are passing on field goals…take the fucking points. And it’s not just 4th and 1 downs…you see it on 4th and 5 and shit like that way too often.

    Don’t understand it

McVay called a timeout because he wanted to think about challenging the spot of the ball. He didn't challenge because he would've lost another timeout. The initial timeout he blew cost his team a chance to win the game as they got it back with 20 secs left.

And hes supposed to be the best coach in the game

It wasn’t a low scoring game, it was their second drive of the game and the weather at that time was beautiful. I take the points as well, but let’s not revise history.

Sadly, the best Jets news since the season end is probably Saleh's hiring by Tennessee. Hopefully sends a message to the coaching community that NYJ doesn't necessarily have to be a place where coaching careers go to die.

UNFORTUNATELY, we are what...half a decade, a full decade down the line from Bowles and Saleh went from this team back to basically being one of the best DC's in the league, especially from what we just saw in San Francisco. CLEARLY they weren't the problem. The problem STILL sits with this organization. Only, now, there is even MORE "tape" on this organization to prove, in many cases, it wasn't the individual.

I don't know...I don't think any version of we've got picks x, y or z is an actual selling point at this time. I've really reached a wall on this organization. Short of this team being absolutely flattened, owner down, I don't see an end to this.

For one thing, there are like 2-3 coaches who get 4th down decisions right almost every time. The league is full of dinoaurs.

For another thing, what you're doing is citing anecdotal, individual examples as "evidence" 4th down decisions aren't a science at this point. That's not the correct way to look at it. Having 4th down decisions down to a science doesn't mean they always go in your favor and you do the right thing 100% of the time, it just means you do the right thing more often than not, which leads to more wins over time vs. winging it.

If you have a coin that you can flip which lands on heads 45% of the time and tails 55% of the time, it's never a smart decision to choose heads even though there are some flips where it'll land on heads.

And I highly doubt the Jags were leaving 4th down decisions to their OC.

I harp a lot about us hiring an offensive head coach, and that's still what we need to do, but more than anything I just want a coach that's smart and data-driven. We are so behind on this front it's not funny. The results speak for themselves.

I’ll die on the hill that McVay made the right decision going for the 4th down at the 6 if that’s what you’re referring to. If they kick a FG, they’re down 1. Seattle gets the ball back and drives down to kick a FG (that they’re only 30ish yards away from if the Rams kickoff), the Rams are still down 4 with even less time.

umm no...you are the one citing anecdotal individual examples.

Again you said by week 6 you knew Aaron Glenn doesn't have a science for 4th down decisions.** How? There were probably 3 in-game decisions made before that game anyway

** and that others do. something else that seems like a made up claim

There was a game where Glenn kicked a FG on 4th and 1 in our opponent's territory and then went for it on 4th and 8 from our own territory the next drive. Does that sound like someone who's using a systemic approach?

Why would I make up that other coaches have 4th down decisions down to a science? I just want the Jets to get with the times man.
