We're just gonna have to agree to disagree. You're so wrapped up in the Aaron Glenn of it all that I don't think you're looking through a clear lens. And just to be clear, I would have had 0 issue with Glenn being fired and if we have a shit start next season, he better be fired. So this isn't me sticking up for some guy I like and think he's a homerun.
The Browns are a trainwreck because they still have Watson on the books and are a clusterfuck of a roster. Yes, we’re not the most desired location we can all agree. The best situation a coach can walk into is one where a franchise QB is already in place. BUF, NYG, BAL, even ATL to a degree. The next best coaching situation is one with a-lot of draft picks and/or cap room. We will never be more desirable a location than we are right now. I have no doubt in my mind we could have hired McCarthy if we tried. This bullshit argument constantly time and again where doing nothing is the right move because it can potentially get worse. Glenn literally is the worst coach I’ve ever witnessed. Not just here, ever. The guy has zero redeeming qualities as a coach. Zero. Literally not having a HC at all would be an upgrade over Glenn. A magic 8 ball would guess the right thing to do over Glenn actually trying to manage a game.
It’s also weird bitching that Glenn is so bad so let’s let the guys who hired the bad coach do it again. if you think Glenn is the worst thing ever then who do you think hired him. do it again? Strange ….
Saying I am swayed by my dislike of him - are you a physiologist now? lol. I preferred to hire someone else, but I didn't dislike him, I wanted him to succeed, especially after he brought up that 1998 season, but he failed spectacularly. So, yes now I dislike him for that Didn't you want to fire him too, just don't want to say it? But as far as tank, people here thought he was tanking mid season, not just last few games. He had a historically bad year, and was off to the worst start by ANY HC in team's history even before the trades, let's not change the facts. Firing him was completely justified and even expected around the league circles as I just showed. No negative precedent would have been set. Now we just waste one more year.
That I really wanted him to succeed and he was so bad 6 weeks in I wanted him fired as one of the most optimistic posters before this year this board has ever seen?
I just said like two posts ago I'd have had no issues if he was fired and he should be fired if we have a bad start to the year. We're both talking about things that we don't have an absolute value on. You think every NFL coach and exec would have applauded the Jets for firing a guy the same year they traded his two best players and had him tank the last 5 games. I think coaches look at that and go "fuck that" because it could happen to them too. What we DO know is that all top tier candidates had top tier jobs avalaible to them. Ravens, Bills, Steelers, Giants. I'd put the Falcons ahead of ours too. You're saying you'd be fine with maybe the 5th best candidate, when the 5th best candidate in the current cycle is turning down teams just as dysfunctional as us. I'm saying next year the pool will be smaller and we'll have a far better sell for any coach worth their weight.
Yes, correct. Wanting someone fired 6 weeks into their first ever coaching job with a terrible QB and probably the worst roster in football would lead me to believe you're not looking at the situation through a clear lens.
Why do people act like good, experienced coaches are plentiful and easy to find? If they are good AND experienced, they wouldn't be unemployed in the NFL. Sent from my SM-S938U1 using Tapatalk
I am not convinced the teams that hired HCs hired the best candidates. A lot of times it is in the eye of a beholder. Many teams got defensive guys, where we tried defensive guys before way too many times and should do offense IMO given we need to focus on getting a QB also. The only HC I liked who was not a fired HC last year that was hired so far was McCarthy. But there are still a few guys left I personally would love to talk to. As @NOVAJET said though, we may need to agree to disagree.
You’re right, let’s keep Glenn. In fact, let’s keep Fields as our starter too, I mean things might get worse.
For 2026z id keep both. We arent going anywhere and need to suck again to be near the top of the draft. We probably go 6-11 and just enough to miss the elite talent in the draft
He was proven right though and even you agreed with him later!!! There is something to be said about being proven right, which makes it quite hard to argue. Perhaps the lens was clearer than the one some others were looking through.
Brother. Most of the really good head coaches do succeed immediately. There are examples every single year. I mean just this year alone there were 3 teams who went from awful to very good because of their HCs, and none of them changed their QBs from last year. We have such low standards because of the decades of garbage. It's pathetic. You should expect your coach to succeed very quickly. That's what good coaches do.
Nah I totally disagree with this way of thinking. A lot of us here were pointing out the nonsensical things Glenn was doing very early in the season. Pointing that out early doesn't mean we had it out for Glenn for no reason, it just means we saw things that made us pretty sure he wasn't a good coach. It's extremely rational, but the people who didn't pick up on it as quickly will always call it an overreaction.
