The Jets end up drafting Tony Hunt!

I didnt like this idea at first, but after reading the senior bowl clippings, all i hear is good things about him. The only set back is that he isnt a very good outside runner, BUT that is perfect for the system the jets are trying to run! Washington takes the outside runs, while Hunt takes the inside runs and bowls over people. I really see this as a possibility because the jets have some needs on defense and Mangini will more then likely go that route...

this is all if they dont get turner...

i agree. turner for a first round will be a stretch if carriker, mcdonald, or one of the big time safeties like nelson is still on the board. tony hunt in the 2nd round could be an amazing pick. i got to PSU and have been watching him develop. The guy runs so hard and has been our horse. he is a 239 pound bulldozer and can really get those tough yards that Washington cant. HE can also block well and the fact that he had so many carries per game last season shows his potential to be a feature back in the league and also shows that he can play an entire season for us at a high level

I'm like a moth to flames when someone posts about my beloved Penn State.

I've seen a lot of quality players come from this team over many years and I don't ever remember being so excited about certain players like I am this year. Hunt, Levi Brown, Pusluzny are at the top of my "watch" list.

Does anyone else think they could draw up a defense that relies on substitutions to execute different plays such as Washington to the outside, Hunt to the inside?

Hunt won't be a first round pick. He'll probably drop to late second round after the combine, where he'll probably have a bad 40 time, and somewhere where I would grab him. He would be a great partner with Leon, with Leon getting the bulk of the carries and Hunt in for the short yardage/goaline situations.

Im sorry...but i dont think you spend a late 2nd round pick on a guy who is going to be your short yardage runner. With soooo much defensive depth in this draft, we can get an OLB or DE who last year would have been in the 1st round at that spot.

I am all for taking Tony Hunt. I think he would be the perfect back in the system we are running, with Leon taking some carries as the change of pace guy. But that is all he would be, a change of pace guy, if Hunt comes in.

Right now, I think that improving the oline will help the running game more than getting a feature back will. Turner for our early 2nd rounder, however, would be ideal, however would probably happen on draft day so as Tangini can see what is available.

First of all, i HATE when people make their thread titles like that using a ... Just make the title something that summarizes what you are about to say. Don't try to make it suspenseful so more people read it.

Now, in response. It all depends on what Tangini decide is their philosophy. Will they build the team through the draft or through free agency. Ive heard a lot of mixed reports on that subject. I dont really want Tony Hunt on our team to tell you the truth though. I much rather an every down type back like Turner and use Washington as a scat back than have just a short yardage guy and an explosive guy. It wouldnt shock me if we took Hunt especially considering how much everyone at the Senior Bowl is raving about him, but i really rather not have him.

I think you and I are the biggest supporters/believers in the trade for Turner.

With those rumors coming from the senior bowl saying that the Turner deal was essentially done...I am quite excited to see if it actually happens.

I think there is a decent shot that we'll end up getting Turner but I wouldn't put any stock into those senior bowl rumors. That is more than likely to be coming from SD in order to boost Turner's stock. It is highly unlikely that they even have had much conversation regarding the subject much less string a deal already..

No one is going to be surprised if we grab Hunt with one of our 2nd rounders now, obviously.

Seems like a good kid, plays the game the right way and what not. I think our FO likes what they've seen this week. I mean, how can't they?

Hunt looked real good. He never gave up. His feet kept going even after he was hit and he broke a couple and moved piles. despite all that he's projected no higher then the 2nd round. If he's there I think we'll get him. It's possible that he would move up or down. It's too early to say. Well know more after the combine.
However, I'd rather get Bush. He reminds me of "The Bus".

You can't be serious with the McGahee comparison. Hunt is 6'2, 230 and ran a 4.6 40 yards dash. Meanwhile McGahee is 6'0, 213 and ran a 4.24. I don't like Hunt. He's too slow and reminds me too much of Kevan Barlow (like I said in another thread on the same topic) to be spending a 2nd rounder. There's too much talent available at his projected draft slot to spend it on a one dimensional player.

Will we build through the draft or Free agency??? That is such a stupid comment. So what are you saying-- if we sign people in FA, we're not going to use our draft pics? Or if we plan do draft players, then we're not going to sign Free agents? We're obviously going to do both.

dude, are you serious??? McGahee didn't run a 4.2. He didn't run at all- he was injured. Hunt is 239, and he hasn't run a 40 yet, as the combine and prodays are over a month away. I don't know what BS draft site you are looking at, but please don't their opinions to reflect your own anymore-- you are being horribly misled. Hunt just got the Senior Bowl MVP, and the MVP in his bowl game-- rushing for over 150 yards. He's good- and before you say he's not, you better get some opinions of your own.

Oh yeah, by one dimentional player, do you mean Run, Block and catch??? Because he can do it all-- Joe Paterno called him the best all around back he has ever seen!!! Think about that for a second, and then realize how horrible wrong you are. I think I'll go with Joe Paterno, and my own eyes over you. Absurd comment. Don't post on players you don't know about. Don't post at all. Go back to your BS draft sites and steal some more of their opinions.
