Que the "He’s Out Of Line But He’s Right" winter soldier meme :)

If I'm Dante's dad I'm telling him to stay in school. Declaring for the draft with the jets strongly projected to pick you at 2 is a potential career death sentence. You literally couldn't ask for a less ideal developmental situation for that kid to fall in to.

If I'm Dante's dad, I'm telling him to declare and get that bag while you can. He's projected in the top 2, playing another year, he could fall out of that with a better QB class, or get injured, then a large chunk of that money is gone.

Plus, it's very likely the Jets are back in the top 5 next year lol. Almost every top 5 QB pick goes to a shitty team unless they are fortunate enough to have someone trade up.

There is multiple ways and layers to that though. From what i can dig up on Dante's earnings last year he made rough $2.5m. So while there is some potential financial loss risk involved in staying in school...it's not like under a worse case scenario the kid's immediate future is gonna be left hurting for money.

Plus what "bag" are we talking about prioritizing here? if you are already a multi millionaire it's that second and approaching FA contract where the real next level and lifestyle changing money bag is going to be found. Fanboy hat off what do you think the overall odds are of him seeing *THAT* bag after getting drafted here?

At 20 years old and arguably not even ready to start at that? Engstrand's willingness to put a little pep in his step while getting Ben Johnson his coffee might have landed him an OC job here, but it isn't going to help develop this kid into a productive NFL QB. There is almost no shot of us not spending the next 3-4 years completely F'ing this kid up. Barring a complete turn around we've been waiting on for decades now he's much much more likely to get spit out as another bottom floor payout QB like Zach Wilson or Trey Lance then anything else.

For my own kid...I tell him to bet on himself. Not on the NYJ doing him right.

My only hope is that we pick Moore, hire someone who isn't a moron and can come in with a semblance of football acumen then sit and develop him for the first half of the season while Glenn gets himself fired.
Trade the other first rounder and try and get another first in 2027 so we don't waste any other picks this year and set the new coach up even more.
Our schedule next year is brutal so we probably are going to get murdered week in and week out.
Then whomever we brought in takes over as the interim and continues to work with him before we get to hire an experienced coach to come in and level out this organization.
Then the dream comes true in 27 with 4 first round picks and money to burn.

I'm not a Stephen A. fan either. Really only listened a handful of times on clips like that. However, the one thing he does do is put voice to the kinds of things you WISH other sports talking heads and respected reporters would. I mentioned this in another thread, I was listening to Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller, last week, and when the Jets came up, instead of going off like Stephen did, Pat literally got silent. The kind of silent you NEVER hear from people who talk on the radio/tv. His entire summation was, "I don't know what they are going to do there." He whispered it. Like he was betraying someone. I understand that, considering the years he was with NY, he knows Glenn...he DRAFTED Glenn. I'm sure they are friends off the field so he's not going to flame him like Stephen did, but he should have. Any of the football people I hear talk about the Jets and this past season, they ALL get super quiet and you can TELL they are trying to move the topic along. NO ONE knows what to do with this shit.

Seriously, outside of the NFL FORCING the Johnson clan to sell the Jets, it's over people. Woody will run it until he dies and then Brick, more than likely, takes over. When that will happen, hell only knows, but it can only go two ways. We go the way of the Raiders and that demented fuck of an Al Davis offspring or the way of the 49'ers and their son, Jed York, took over when the parents almost did the 49'ers what Woody is doing to us. There is a third option and that is Johnson FINALLY hires a REAL football man to run the show and then just goes back to England or wherever and just leaves his god damn hands OFF the team!

HALF the posters on this board will be fucking DEAD by the time some of this happens and I'm certainly NOT O.K. with that. Champ, dead before a championship. NY Junc, dead before a championship, Mangold, dead before a championship. The list goes on and on and on. If I follow in my parents footsteps (hopefully not) I, personally, only have about 5 or 10 years!!!!!! There are people, on this board TODAY, talking about 5 or 10 years in the future, after all these fuck ups, like it's just a drop in the bucket! A LOT of us won't BE here!

I don't care what someone's personal feelings are for Stephen A but,1st, he's right as fuckin' rain. Let's get that out of the way now. 2nd, the other "football men" are cowards for not calling it out. @Jets OG fan, "why" shouldn't he be saying this stuff publicly? This is people's LIVES. Their livelihood. You can damn sure be skippy that if I had a talented son, who played football, and was getting ready to enter the draft I'd make DAMN sure he went nowhere near the NY Jets if he were an OFFENSIVE player. Not just QB. TRUST me, Dante's going to make enough to put "beans on the table" off of the NIL. And, it's a near guaranteed FACT that he'll last longer in the pro's, to hit that magical 2nd contract, ANYWHERE else but the Jets.

I hope MORE DO "sack up" and start calling this shit out. EPIC fucking failure. You have a god damn team FIRING a guy who's coached EIGHTEEN years and had TWO losing seasons! This turd bag of a franchise just broke century old NFL wide records on the side of the ball that the fucking head coach is supposed to be indoctrinated in! But his answer was, "I leave my hands off so I can be the best head coach I can?" What kind of bullshit is that? Unreal

I read that whole thing lol, all true. Most of us throwing fits are doing so because "one more year" is a long fucking time! I have no interest in even watching the playoffs, especially since the Bills and Pats are in it, like none. Once fantasy season is over I'm done with football, every, fucking, year.

The thing is, it's not just "one more year". It's really two-plus. We're putting the franchise on hold essentially for a year. Assuming there is a new coach and front office in place for 2027, it's going to take them at least a season to undo what has been done over this year and the past few. 2028 is the earliest we have even the slightest of chances of appearing on the "In the Running" playoff graphic in the month of December.

We're in for a long, long haul here.

Out of all the ex-Jets the Jets could've hired to be HC of the NYJ WHY did they have to hire one who retired as a stinkin' Houston Texan not too long ago?

Why not Curtis Martin? Or Kevin Mawae? Or Victor Green? Or D'Brickashaw Ferguson? Or Anthony Becht he's in the head coaching profession.

I remember Aaron Glenn as a player good player I remember that 2001 CB tandem he & Marcus Coleman one of the best in the NFL. When he did that to me that was inexcusable yes it's affected my perception of him and my patience with him after the disastrous 2025 season.

Heck Darrelle Revis won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots he came back to retire as a New York Jet!!

Why bother interviewing for this job, why want to be the head coach for this team if he didn't like the team at all? If he was going to tear down everything? Why do that? He should've gone to another team that was more to his liking.

I’m not a Stephen A Smith fan and I didn’t hear the clip

    However…

If he’s ranting on the Jets and saying embarrassing shit, then I’m going to say great! I hope more pick up the chain. Need to embarrass the fuck out of Woody. Make him feel as terrible as he’s making us feel. I hope he is fucking super embarrassed.

The most frustrating part of all this is that we just have this impotent rage. We’re mad as shit because Woody does stupid shit that most of us on this board can call out as stupid and we’re just morons on the internet…we’re not professional football guys. And as mad as we are…there is literally NOTHING we can do other than quit the team. Don’t buy shit. Don’t go to games. Don’t watch games. Etc. But even that really doesn’t do much to Woody…he’s still making bank.

Problem is that sports fandom is not a rational thing…I’m guessing most of us grew up watching and cheering and supporting this team. It’s hard to turn it off. It’s not just a product. It’s an emotional connection to our youth, our family, our friends, whatever…so while the rational thing would be to say Fuck it All and find a new team to root for, that really isn’t a realistic option for most of us.

So all we can do is come to boards like this, rant on and on, and pat ourselves on the back for knowing and calling out this shit when Woody and the idiots he hires can’t do it.

I’m getting older and I hate wasting year after year with loser rookie DC coaches when it’s SO FUCKING OBVIOUS that we should try something different.

I’d take ANY of Kubiak, Kingsbury, Harbaugh, McCarthy, Stefanski, and probably a couple others we could find over the shit show we had to endure with Glenn. ANY of them would be an instant upgrade…

I kind of get it, but isn't he also from Houston? And we let him go in the expansion draft, so I think he is actually the 3rd Houston Texan ever?
Seems a little harsh to take that as hating the Jets.

    But I could be wrong.

Smith may say it like it is, but it is not so black and white for Moore and the Jets. We do have OL, we do heave some weapons, and we do have ammo to get more. The situation is shitty for sure, and it is a conversation, but I didn't think it is that obvious that he should not declare. Maybe 50/50 or maybe even better to declare? It's certainly not as obvious as Smith made it sound. Second overall pick, good protection, some good weapons, his current OC is gone, would a new one be better than Engstrand? I mean Engstrand was a passing coordinator and TE coach for Detroit and Ben Johnson. Oregon's OC will be TE coach and passing coordinator for Will Stein. Are we sure that guy is better than Engstrand? This is very far from certain.

Additionally he did not say anything about the Raiders. They just had SB winning coach who only won 3 games with them, they have no protection at all for a QB. We don't know whom they will hire, but they just had 3 coaches in 3 years who all sucked. Did Smith tell Moore or Mendoza not to come out to the Raiders? Of course not. Only not to the Jets. Which is why yes, some of what Smith said is true (about Woody and Glenn), but the conclusion not to come out is not obvious, and he didn't mention the Raiders shitty situation. Plus he does have a voice, and guys like Moore will hear it, even though again the conclusion to come out is not obvious at all. So yeah, Smith is a total piece of shit for doing it, and his advice to Dante is not necessarily correct either.

With all that said, Woody not firing Glenn is so idiotic, it might actually impact our ability to get Dante. Glenn needs to hire a decent offensive coach asap at least to make the situation a little better.

Let’s just hope they don’t spend all our cap space this year and leave the next HC/GM with his hands tied for 2 years…

That is a legitimate concern. You can't just blow your load by overpaying expensive free agents who are not even all that great. But when you are about to get fired, you may do that. That's one of the biggest fears I have, that they think the roster is the sole reason for the historic failure. We just reviewed the players that played in the last game with Buffalo, who played their back-ups, with the Bills fan, and though we were missing quite a few players too, if you combined the rosters, majority of the starters would be the Jets players: https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/aaron-glenn.100948/page-77#post-4480091. And we not only lost, but lost by 28.

I mean, this is not just on the players, we are getting out schemed all the time: https://x.com/Joerb31/status/2008533258922045521 . Yes, it might be better with better players, but you can't make the roster coach proof, you still have to put even talented players in position to make plays, so they can use their talents. You can't have mentality that the only way to win is out toughen the opponent. The other guys are tough too, and if they are in a better position schematically, they will beat you, no matter how tough you are. Too bad Glenn cannot understand that, and I am worried by trying to invest massive amounts for what will probably be marginal upgrades, we are going to really screw ourselves for years to come.

What do you mean "he shouldn't be saying that publicly"? That's his job! He gives opinion! Why should he avoid talking about any NFL coaches at all? Do you want to limit him to reviewing half time shows?

That whiny "Jets are just not allowed to have nice things" is trite and meaningless. "Sabotage the franchise"? Whaaat? Why would you want to give him so much power?

Are you really looking to protect the entire Jets organization from everything they do to themselves as if they are a bunch of middle schoolers just trying to get their participation award?

We made Mitch Trubisky look like Joe Montana. The big issue is because their backs are against the wall. They are going to do everything in their power to save their jobs. The only free agents that are gonna come are ones that we have to overpay for. It’s not like these free agents are coming here to win a Super Bowl or because Aaron Glenn is an excellent coach. It’s simply for the money bottom line.
