Moore is the definition of a project in a stacked QB friendly system. He had a meh performance the other day. Don't even joke about wasting this uber valuable #2 pick on him. We have too many areas of immediate need to blow that pick on a guy who will barely even play in Year 1. No thanks. Way too risky. Bain just dominated the most talented team in the country. He's a proven commodity and the anchor we need to build our defense around. I like Bain at 2 and Tate at 16. Grab Zacariah Branch in Round 2. WR room gets vastly upgraded and we get a franchise DL/edge rusher we've so sorely needed. Or we could go Tyson at 2 with A'Mauri Washington at 16 and Uiagalelei at 33. Oregon's D Line is beastly this year. So we get another Franchise WR to pair with Garrett and a seriously revamped, talented D line.
This team is several years away from competing. Gonna take two years of draft to start rebuilding. Still think we draft a couple of OL in the first 3 rounds in this years and next years drafts.
I wouldn't touch Moore at all. That doesn't mean he will fail, it just means that's not a sure thing and I'm not spending a first round pick on something that isn't a sure thing. You'd think we'd learn our lesson with dumping Darnold (who was a sure thing) for Wilson (who was the farthest thing from a sure thing).
Such a gift that we get to see Mendoza v. Moore on Friday, especially knowing that if both play great, one of them will almost certainly be ours.
[JetsNation06]I like Bain at 2 and Tate at 16. Grab Zacariah Branch in Round 2. I would cream my pants if that was our draft but I think Tate is gone by 16 so it would likely be Lemon. Conception at 33 would be swell as well.
The question, as it has been for decades, is how does this get changed? What does putting off getting a quarterback for another year get you, other than one more year down the road with the status quo? Are you really advocating not changing the QB for another year? What about two years?
Nope just 1 year. A) I am NOT impressed by any QBs in this draft. B) If Glenn isn't getting fired immediately, by next draft he will either be replaced or will have done something to earn the right to stay. Either way the kid will have SOME chance of having a coaching staff in place for more than 1 year, which is incredibly unlikely with Glenn on the hot seat + Rookie QB + the Schedule. C) We should use this year's AND next year's drafts to build a much better supporting offensive roster so the QB next year comes in with better protection and better weapons. I don't see any reason to help the defense at all -- I want the other teams to score a ton so the rookie can get a billion drives under his belt. I'd be okay with a big DT or a run-stuffing LB, but we don't need to be taking any fliers on pass rushers or DBs until we have built an offense that can hold up to a shootout. The only concern our D should have is preventing the opposing team from running the ball and keeping our QB on the bench. We don't need to win, we need to get our QB meaningful snaps. All of it works better if we draft a QB next year. It doesn't matter though, we'll draft one this year. Because Jets.
Disagree. It's kind of like the old politician's rule of voting - Vote Early - Vote Often! With the cache of high draft spots available to them the Jets should plan on getting at least one every year until they finally get one that sticks rather than stinks. The sooner you start, the sooner you finish. The draft is a lottery - two chances are twice as likely to win than one. I don't care if the picks are kept in a dungeon unseen for a year if they are making progress rather than the asinine practice here of pushing guys like Zach Wilson onto a field they belong on no more than you or I.
I think we fundamentally disagree -- I think you should build conditions to maximize the development of a QB, instead of hoping you pick a superhero. That's how teams that regularly develop QBs, despite very rarely picking at the top of the draft do it. Zach is exactly the example -- we wanted another lottery ticket superhero, when we should have been using picks to create a better situation for Sam, who actually had the potential to develop into something.
Yes, we definitely have a fundamental disagreement - you want to take this one step at a time while I believe the Jets can begin to train a quarterback at the same time they are filling other positions - why delay one process for another? There are no superheroes in the NFL draft, only a very few guys there have even the most remote possibility of superstardom. The most obvious example is a guy from the sixth round. The highest QB pick each year in the first twenty years of this century turned out to be the BEST quarterback only seven times. The Jets need to maximize their opportunities, not limit them to one chance every two or three years. And yes, Zach Wilson is also a perfect example of my theory - you can look up my posts from the past and I wanted the Jets to keep Darnold after they drafted Wilson, who I did not see as a viable prospect. Having two quarterbacks on rookie contracts is cheap and it avoids the pressure of throwing either one onto the field before they are ready for the NFL. Or in the case of Wilson, show he would never be ready for the NFL.
[what scares me on Oregon is Dillion Gabriel had a way better year than Moore this year. Gabriel is awful
agreed - he was never viewed by anyone I saw as a sure thing. I also wanted to keep him and to trade the #2 pick to the niners who gave up 2 extra first rounders to get Trey Lance to the phins and to give him at least another year.
If we learned one thing from Darnold to Jordan Love to Rogers is you don’t just throw them out there if they are not ready. Sadly this regime may have no choice in order to sell the owner on their future.
They will need it, overpay is the only way we are getting anyone to come here. Listening to the players after the game is awful, they sound like they all want out.
