Most of those guys would fail miserably under the glaring spotlight of NY. First year head coaches? When are we going to learn? That almost never, ever works unless you're some superstar coordinator a la Ben Johnson and none of the names you listed are in that league. Yeah I didn't respond and I did see your list of names. So you're right that many names have been fired after one year but I don't believe any of the names you listed had the success that Glenn had in their previous year as a coordinator. Replacing Glenn with most of these names would be a lateral move and wouldn't be the answer. McCarthy and Flores yeah, I'd be interested in talking to both of them So you gave me 2 good names and I agree on those.
There is a simple metric that shows that Glenn put together a much worse season than either of these guys ever did. The issue is you reject the metric despite it being simple and intuitive. If you don't think there's a difference between losing 14-10 and 42-10 then I don't know what to tell you.
I just think the Jets QB issue, with that position literally being the most important in pro sports, is the real 800 lb gorilla in the room. Maybe I'm wrong but I think that needs to get resolved first and foremost. I don't like what Glenn did either and admittedly I didn't watch much December football this year but I already knew how bad this team was going to be and after Fields shit the bed, I basically gave up because there was no hope anyways. They were doomed to be pretty awful this year. If a lot of you feel like Glenn has made them historically awful, then fine, that's your opinion and you've got your stats to back that up. with point differential, etc. However I still don't think he's the biggest problem here.
The Jets needed Mendoza. That's why I'm really fucking pissed. Prototypical stud NFL QB. He's put together like a Herbert but with better accuracy and more of a natural born winner IMO. I don't care what anyone says. You LOSE the fucking games to set your franchise up for a decade of plus .500 seasons. That's what really pisses me off. I don't care if the owner has to pull all the starters. You fucking make sure you get the #1 pick when you're as bad as the Jets have been for 15 fucking years. Rant over.
Flores and McCarthy are both proven head coaches with winning records. So you’re saying first time coordinators would fail miserably? Better or worse than Glenn? And we should stick with the failure? When you make a mistake in life do you just stay the course because continuity is better or fix it when you have the chance?
You lost me at “prototypical stud QB” when referencing Mendoza. That kid is a late 1st/2nd round pick, in a NORMAL draft, all day long and twice on Sunday. I’d even be O.K. with you saying a “good” QB, but stud? I can’t take anything else you said seriously.
Sorry if it was too much for you to comprehend. Let me break it down for you. S-T-U-D. One that the Jets won't have access to because they're abject morons. You fit right in with the Jets current scouting staff when it comes to "evaluating" QB talent. Holy clueless.
Maybe that excuses offense to some degree, but again Arthur Smith put up 22 ppg with Fields and Tomlin was 4-2. Now Fields looks worse than ever. Think about that. Sure Fields was not good, but he looks worse than a rookie UDFA and you want the same people to develop a rookie QB? But here is the kicker, the defense has been even worse, and even before the trades. And Glenn is the defensive coach. I tell you what, if you watched December football, maybe you would see it differently. It was the worst stretch of football I have ever seen as a Jets fan in my life. And I have watched since the 90s. I think this was actually worse than Kotite, and definitely worse than Gase. I just don't see how you can go from that to being a good coach. I thought Glenn failed before that when he started 0-7, but I wanted guys to develop and lose competitively for the QB tank. I figured we are stuck with him for another year no matter what, especially after we won one game, and the goal should be to get a QB and not ruin him in 1 year before new coach gets here. Now after watching last month, I can't even imagine having another year of Glenn. This is not a normal tank. This was ineptitude of the highest order not previously seen in the history of this team. Let me ask you this, why did Glenn fire Wilks? Shouldn't he get another chance too? After all, it has not even been 1 year? If Glenn should get another chance, why shouldn't Wilks? For the same reason that Glenn fired Wilks 1st year, Woody must do the same to Glenn. They are not competent at their jobs, and it is very very clear. There is no need to waste another year to know what we know already and risk QB development. Pull the plug and let's get McCarthy, Kubiak, etc... We are already historically bad, it cannot get any worse. And if it does, we do it again until it doesn't. We cannot just accept historically bad job as normal. It is anything but. Glenn needs to be put out of his misery.
Based on what logic? Almost by default, a head coach always gets more rope than an assistant coach and rightly so. No, Glenn should not go just because one of his assistants was let go, absolutely not. Not to mention, Wilks did have a reputation as being a "one-year wonder" before his Jets tenure so his firing should come as little surprise. This end-of-year review, to me, should be more of a referendum on the state of the franchise as a whole than it is on one part of the larger problem which, for some, is AG.
Why should he get more rope by default? HC gets more rope if only one side of the ball sucks. But when both sides stink and you are historically bad... And the side with your background is even worse? Way worse than Bob, who was not any good, with similar roster even. What does the logic tell you? Isn't it logical at that point HC is at fault? If you actually do apply logic, there is only one conclusion. And it is not to keep historically bad coach. Also what about the rest of my post, how is that for logic? "Maybe that excuses offense to some degree, but again Arthur Smith put up 22 ppg with Fields and Tomlin was 4-2. Now Fields looks worse than ever. But here is the kicker, the defense has been even worse, and even before the trades. And Glenn is the defensive coach. I highly suggest you go back and watch the film. This kid is going to get his butt kicked up and down every NFL field. You think he's a S-T-U-D and that's o.k., we'll see how much of a S-T-U-D he is 3 years from now, if that.
And he still has not once named a single thing about Glenn that looks promising for his development as a coach. The whole argument is BRO IT'S TOO SOON!
That IS the whole argument. You shouldn't judge him based on the current QB. Fields was a gamble. G. Wilson barley played this year. Mason Taylor looked good before his injury. Our top two receivers were throw in trades and at best are a 3 and 4 but are current starters. The O-line has been okay and will benefit with an upgrade at QB. Defensively we're down to our 2, 6 and 7 CBs. Malachi Moore had looked good but we're at 4 or 5 safety on the other side. Jermaine Johnson and Will McD haven't been able to generate a pass rush and the LB's are always our of position and 2 will be replaced this off-season. Michael Clemons had been much better this year though. I guess that's something. This off-season will be critical and next season we have to show improvement the first 8 games or Aaron Glenn will be gone
exactly. I dont know how anyone can look at the roster the Jets are rolling with right now and expect wins. And the weird thing is they don't even want wins. If Aaron Glenn did somehow move mountains and win a couple games with Brady Cook everyone would be pissed for screwing up the draft. I want to see Glenn coach with some actual NFL talent on the field before I start foaming at the mouth like most here.
This is so strange to me because it's very easy to separate talent from coaching and all the pro-Glenn people refuse to do it. I'll say it one more time though I guess - we were historically bad this year. Not my opinion, an objective fact based on many respected, reliable, proven metrics. This team was right up there with the 2020 Gase team in ineptitude, and that team was the worst one we've had in the modern era (surpassed maybe only by this year's team). We aren't the most talented team but we're not totally bereft of talent either, so the only logical conclusion is that the coaching must be abominable to produce such a historically bad team as we did this year. I mean shit, Glenn himself said this was a win-now team before the season. If you want to argue our talent is so bad, what does that say about Glenn's ability to evaluate personnel? People say Fields sucks, ok, agreed, but who picked Fields? Glenn! And before people run with the "we were tanking" argument again - we started the year 0-7. We were never remotely good at any point this season. We won 2/3 games via special teams miracles. That's not sustainable and it doesn't mean your team is good.
