Here’s the thing. Every free agency we think we can compete but we can’t. Nobody worth a damn is coming here. Will have to be a Trumaine Johnson like overpay.
What’s attractive for FAs to come here? Money? That’s about it…. Even then they get taxed much higher than other states so even that isn’t really appealing….
The only position I’m over paying for is the coaching staff. Back the brinks truck up for a young offensive minded coach that has proven success. Kubiak fits that description and was in Denver where our GM came from so there is a link there.
no defensive player can make a bad team good and so I pray they don't burn top picks on the defensive side of the ball unless or until we have a franchise QB free agency scares me as I struggle to think of a single high priced free agent that has really worked out for the Jets in a long long time.
Outbid the Ravens & sign Tyler Linderbaum C to a Creed Humphrey level contract (4yr $72 million w/$50mil guaranteed). Will actually likely have to be more since that deal was signed 8/2024. Under this plan, - Joe Tippman stays at guard. Re-sign Alijah Vera-Tucker to a 1year prove it deal very incentive laid. I, personally have felt moving on from AVT is best because I'm extremely skeptical he can make it out of the 1st TC practice healthy. However, NYJ options are very limited & we need to take on this risk because the payoff would be great. I'm operating under your premise about the 1st 4 picks -- which I actually think may be the right way to go in general. So in a perfect world, - our O-line would be; LT - Olu Fashanu LG - AVT C - Tyler Linderbaum RG - Joe Tippmann RT - Armand Membou Not bad but also no room for any injuries. Our 1st draft pick after round 1+2 is the top of the 4th round. We don't have a 3rd round draft pick because of the disastrous Haasan Reddick trade. At that time, we should focus on a guard w/some OT experience - like a Cayden Green from Missouri.
We have no choice but to re-sign AVT and overpay for him tbh. Not a bad OL but need to make Linderbaum highest paid center in the league.
Alec Pierce from the Colts as a X-receiver is very interesting. I doubt the Colts have the bread to retain him. They have to do something about the linebacker group. It’s atrocious. Nakobe Dean, Eagles Devin Lloyd, Jaguars Quay Walker, Packers Christian Harris Texans I don’t think we can just afford to go into the draft and take all defense with the first four picks. Obviously you have to see how the board develops but there are enough players on offense I’d take at multiple points where we’d be selecting that I could see a 2/2 split. I’d I’d rather draft young offense and sign FA defenders at places like linebacker and safety.
Overpaying for free agents who do not want to be here but want one more massive payday to play half assed would be so Jets like, No free agent who wants to win will come here as long as Aaron Glenn is coaching, step 1 fire Glenn and get a highly respected coach I don't care if you have to give him part ownership of the team get him here! And tell Woody and Brick to stay away from the team let the coach be full hands on like Bill Parcells was and watch the magic happen.
That's not true. A 1yr prove it deal may be in the best interests for both parties. But yes, - if some other team comes in w/a substantial offer, we can look towards a David Edwards from Buffalo or maybe even Ed Ingram out of Houston if either are available. If I'm the NYJ GM, - I'm not going long-term with a guy who missed over half the games of the past 5 seasons.
I don’t understand this logic. Our OL is solid. Upgrades/competition is certainly on the table, but overpaying AVT???? Why?
Teams add guards every year in FA on minimal deals and get good production. The Jets seem to always get the duds though. James Carpenter, Alex Lewis, Van Roten, Laken Tomlinson, etc.
Use all 4 top picks on defense? That would be so Jetsian. They need Offensive skill talent. This is how you acquire cheap, young future stars on both sides of the ball and build around them. There's no way in hell they go defense with all 4 picks. That would be so idiotic and the definition of Jetsanity. The real question is, as it always is around here, does their scouting team and GM know how to pick the RIGHT offensive skill talent? That remains to be seen.
Elliss is just a bit old for what we’re trying to do I think. 31 next year. Really good player though. I have a buddy that likes Chenal too. Is he good or is he way elevated by Spags’s blitzing scheme?
