Exactly, he mentioned again it was not about Xs and Os. No wonder we are getting blown out every week. We have the worst schematic disadvantage in every game and the coach does not even understand it.
This is where I'm at as well. It's actually somewhat of a relief to not have it. With this coaching staff back next season, having them develop a QB taken that high in the draft would set this franchise back another 5 years, if not longer. Just hoping at this point that maybe they can hit on a couple of these picks with good skill position players on either side of the ball and then the new coach in 2027 can get his QB and have both of them start out on the same page.
Man o man, how can a guy go out there and say it’s not about Xs and Os and that he felt he had a good game plan going into a ball game where they get absolutely crushed and could have easily lost by 60. Clean house tomorrow and dangle those picks to top candidates is the only way or all those picks will get flushed down the toilet because they won’t get good enough coaching/scheme to succeed no matter how good they could be.
Shanahan took the the last pick in the draft and made him a QB you can compete for a superbowl with….. Coaching isn’t everything it’s the only thing you must have to compete in this league. No bad coaches compete for superbowls period.
Yeah but the problem is there will be A LOT of pressure to trade up if needed for a QB. That’s why this IS a very bad outcome…because if they want a QB, and they definitely need one, they will feel a need to trade up to get him..I’d be surprised if they stay at say three and pass on a QB when the Raiders take one and the Giants possibly trade out to a QB needy team…that would be a lot of faith in Mougey and his evaluations…it would probably be the right move, but I’d be surprised to see. All that being said, if we run back AG again I really don’t think it matters much…whichever QB we end up taking either at pick 3 or whatever we end up with, or later, or trading up to the 2nd pick (I think the Raiders get the first pick and take a QB), will probably fail here, with this team, with this coach. I just don’t see AG being the guy.
I agree - it SHOULD be 99% likely but this is the Jets and so they will say "well we knew coming into the season that Fields was a gamble and we traded away 2 of our 3 best players so winning was never an option and we are now in a great position to draft our franchise QB and completely rebuild this team"
Btw, Glenn is bringing up Mooge now in every press conference. Me and Mooge need to do this, me and Mooge that. He was always saying "I" before. He is definitely feeling the heat and is trying to tie himself to Mooge with rope he referenced that we should not be letting go. But this is not about Mooge. I feel like Mooge has done a solid job. Could it be better, did he make some mistakes - of course. But he did some really good things as well, like getting 1st round picks from non play-off teams, players like Briggs and Phillips for scraps, drafting decent, etc... Mooge has done his job fairly decent. Glenn hasn't, and in fact has done the worst job in team history, which is saying a lot. I feel like Mooge should not be tied to Glenn at this point. Coaching is THE major issue. It's just so clear, even a blind dumb squirrel like Woody should see it. Fire Glenn and let Mooge find the replacement. Not Tanny from 33d team, who clearly is finished as an executive (I have provided a recent clip with Jake Asman on ESPN, where it is clear the guy has lost his marbles), but the guy that was recommended by Sean Payton, who actually has a GM title, reports to you, and has done a decent job so far.
Yeah this is the crux of the issue. We're in this weird prisoner's dilemma now where GM and HC trying to save their jobs is going to supersede whatever the smartest thing to do is from a long-term perspective. Of course, I'm sure none of this has remotely crossed Woody's mind. He's playing bingo while the rest of the league plays chess. Totally reactionary and never thinking ahead.
Gase finished his first season on a 6-2 run. Even in the 2nd season when he was 2-14, one of those wins was late in the year against a playoff team. I can't see the current coaching staff accomplishing either of these things.
Guys. Now that everyone got a chance to vote, I will merge this thread with the Fire Glenn thread to avoid multiple threads for the same thing.
Glenn is the perfect coach for the Jets next season. If he turns it around, the team has found its head coach for many years. If he still sucks, then he gets fired and they hire a real HC for 2027 with massive draft capital.
Sure, but this is reliant on the Jets not blowing all their draft capital reaching for a QB this upcoming draft. There's going to be explicit pressure from Woody to take a QB and implicit pressure to do so in order for Glenn and Mougey to try to save their jobs.
Half of that massive draft capital is this coming offseason. You can’t allow AG to have his input on the selection of prospects, and most certainly not on the development of them. If we draft a QB with AG as the coach it is going to be an inmitigated disaster
Aaron Glenn backtracking on his comments on the effort yesterday: "Effort was not the issue with that game. I thought our guys played all the way to the very end. They did some things schematically that was challenging that we really have to take a look at." This guy is just an idiot man. Completely in over his head.
