If by burned out we're talking about someone who went 12-5 in three out of his last four seasons, then I'll line up to take a burned out coach any day of the week. If we were to hire McCarthy, I wouldn't view his job as being to win a Super Bowl for the Jets. His job would be to right the ship and get this team into the playoffs, which he did in 12 of the 18 seasons he's been a head coach. Just stabilizing this dumpster fire and ending the playoff drought would be a monumental accomplishment. I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat, as opposed to the 4-13 or 5-12 season we're looking at next year if we maintain the status quo.
I like McCarthy too that’s why I had him on my list. However, some have said he’s burned out and doesn’t want to coach anymore. Kubiak has done an incredible job with Seattle and has connections to our GM from his Denver days. I think he’s probably the top head coaching candidate out there. Kingsbury has that experience being a HC and a ton of success last year. Injuries derailed their season this year I feel.
Agreed. If the Jets were stable and had been in the playoffs recently I wouldnt care for McCarthy but McCarthy is what this team needs after 15 years. It needs stability. It needs a low risk coach. It needs someone who you would feel confident pairing up with a drafted QB. It needs someone who can get the team back into the playoffs. Has his playoff success been lackluster? Yes but you can say the same for Tomlin and Harbaugh to.
He’s a little green but Thomas Brown is interesting. Former player and has been an offensive coordinator twice. He comes from the McVay coaching tree who had a lot of high praise for him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Brown_(American_football_coach) Josh McCown and Davis Webb are both going to be coaches eventually. Webb is only 30. You’d have to assemble experienced staffs around these guys but I’d be interested in taking a crack at it. It’s not super difficult to find an experienced solid defensive coordinator walking around out there.
The crazy thing is the Jets coaching vacancy if woody comes to his senses and fires Glenn is going to look pretty attractive!!! The new coach would have 8 picks in the top 60 in 2 straight years. 3 first round picks in 2027 in possibly the best draft class in a decade. Not to mention we would still have some good players in Wilson, Olu and Membu to build around. A coach like Kubiak or Kingsbury who are both QB guys would be able to build their own roster and I feel would have the best chance to get the right QB with their insight at that position. Woody can back up the brinks truck and dangle those picks to a top tier coach to build his team over 2 drafts. Tomlin, Harbaugh and Steichen who probably wouldn’t ever consider the jets for just money would now see this is an epic opportunity to build a team the right way through the draft. 8 picks in the top 60!!!!!! Sell it Woody and dump Glenn like a bag of hot garbage.
If he came to his senses and hired a top of the line DC to pair with his offense he could even be great. He's not now but could be. To me McCarthy with all those picks would be so exciting. If they were to package some of those picks to get Burrow wow! Or they use all the picks to draft rookie QBs I would have complete confidence in him to coach them up. His offensive system is proven time and time and time again.
I’m holding out hope. I don’t know how you set this team up with 8 picks in the 1st 2 rounds of the next 2 drafts and have the audacity to let A Glenn anywhere near that process. My god 5 coaches were hired last year and we still managed to get the worst one by far, and we paid Tannenbaum and co to do that for us.
I don't understand what coach A.G.s' plan here was. First thing he did was get rid of Aaron Rodgers then Adams. Then he traded away Sauce & Quinnen. Then he shuts down Garrett with a non-season ending injury. It appears he shut down Mason too & Mcdonald for the rest of the season. So what's been built here in year 1? All he's done is destroy. I believe he'll trade away Garrett this upcoming offseason and Breece won't be brought back either. Did he even like the Jets when he accepted this job? Why take a job when it appears he didn't like the team at all?
and that right there is while the pats management is viewed as heartless and a bunch of assholes they make the right moves when the right moves need to be made. theyve done it for decades. getting a little long in the tooth but have been a stud for us, see you later. they have no loyalty to anything but winning and if you arent helping them win you are gone. the jets couldnt find a great hc if he walked in and took a shit on woodys desk. and they never will with the absurd way that they do things. its always a shot in the dark seeing if they hit.
What we should do is fire Glenn and go full-court press on Kubiak. What will probably happen is we'll keep Glenn one more year and then have to compete with many other teams for Kubiak or the other top candidates. We have a real knack for not courting good candidates until the rest of the league is doing the same.
I think 2018 was probably a little up in the air. Right to the end it wasn't that obvious who the top pick would be, to me at least. And neither Baker nor Sam came good with their first teams, so it's not clear that we lost out there. 2021 was a complete and total bleep show. At this point I think we should stop considering that draft completely. It is likely to be the worst QB draft of 25 years.
I hate tanking and I like winning, so this is bittersweet for me. But I cannot deny the truth of your statement.
Aaron Glenn is not the GM and does not make player transactions. Sounds like you have an axe to grind with Mougey
This is one of those moments we ALL talk about where the stars align and nearly EVERYTHING is in our favor. All Johnson has to do is ONE normal thing. He doesn't even have to be an outlier. The Patriots, literally, just did it last year! That sad thing about this is, we as Jets fan, know he's going to fuck this up.
Not true, Moug was called Glenn's sidekick when he was hired. Glenn has last say in everything, he has more power than any Jets coach in years.
