He is dealing with a QB who turned over the ball 9 times in less than 3 games, 2 starts. Plus maybe he himself is not that good. It's hard to tell at this point, but things are so bad where you have to conclude that the QB sucks and the coaching sucks too. As a fan I want to tank, sure, but the big reason is to draft a QB and get rid of the coaches sooner than later. The team though is not intentionally tanking, they are just that bad.
As long as we can agree that the players never tank, then it comes down to the ownership and coaching staff putting the team in POSITION to tank. Sitting players, questionable playcalls (hello Giants, going for it on 4th and 6 from the Vikings 10 early in the game), etc. The players for the most part are always going to try their best (players who lose motivation aside, of course, but they don't "lose" on purpose), so the coaches have to roll the dice and hope it works out. Jacksonville did a great job of it after we screwed it up in 2020 by sitting half the team. But the players who played, played hard - lack of talent and preparation is hard to overcome. I surely hope the Jets are doing that, because if this is the staff we're gonna have going forward and these last few weeks have been their honest effort to win, then, to paraphrase the one and only Edward L. Norton - "boy, it sounds like YOU are in TROUBLE". Sent from my SM-X820 using Tapatalk
Losing teams usually have longer injury lists at the end of the year. With nothing to play for the good players will be cautious and heal up for next season. Those looking for a new team or a new contract will want to avoid further injury. You'll see a lot of no shows and limited playing time over the last two games for many NFL teams at the bottom of the league.
Any top ranked College QB has been terrified at the throught of being drafted by the Jets since 1959.
44 designed drop backs, 19 designed runs when your best offensive player is the running back. You’d think having a defensive head coach would mean they run the ball a million times each week.
Stacked boxes and always playing from behind. We had to pass especially in the second half. We suck so bad it looks like intentional tank and always has for the most part.
I’m not advocating that it was designed like that for a tank. But it was a bad game plan. When you have a UDFA playing QB you run the ball. The Colts faced stack boxes all game long against the Seahawks and they stuck with the run. Shrink the game, limit possessions and pickup some first downs. Cook was a sitting duck back there. Our guards and center got assaulted yesterday too in the passing game. I would still like to see us invest in a big time guard or center somewhere here.
It's not like they were just losing 1 on 1, they were fooled schematically as well, and this is a trend too. I definitely want an upgrade at one or both G/C, but Tanner also looks like a C level coordinator. He may be a good addition if we have a offensive HC, but with defensive HC where he basically runs the entire offense, don't expect to out scheme the opponent a lot.
JV what is going on with this offensive line? they aren't new or in flux like the rest of the lineup. this line has been together this whole season and most of them last season as well. They should be a strength or a bright spot but they aren't
QBs? Whaaat QBs? There is nothing an OC can do when the guy has no pocket presence and it takes forever to release the ball.
I think it demonstrates that you can have a great O-line but if you don't have a decent QB you aren't going to accomplish much.
Worst mistake the Jets ever made was firing Mike Lafleur, the Rams are leading the league this year in like every offensive category, You could of seen even when he was here that his plays were creative, it was Zack Wilson holding him back. Even worse they replaced him with Hackett( we went from the best offensive coordinator in the league to the worst offensive coordinator in nfl history) to appease a quarterback no one else wanted and who the new head coach ran out of town in a scumbag fashion only to replace him with a qb who had 4 games where he had 54 yards or less. Just further proves Woody has no business owning a nfl team, the guy makes the dumbest decisions ever, and than blames his players and staff.
Agreed. I'm totally on board with the Jets getting a guard either in FA or early in the draft (2nd round or higher). Simpson deserves to be gone, Tippman is average at best and AVT is a big question mark. I think it's in AVTs best interest to come back and regain value. Id also take a C upgrade, but can live with it. Line is not perfect but it's good. The qb play is so bad you can't just be mad about all the sacks.
Good thing we got a shitload of picks and Cap cash because we're gonna need all of it to revamp this roster.
Yeah, but you can't make it coach proof. It helps sure, but did Jax and Chicago invest boat load of money and picks this year? NE? Coaching matters. A lot. Until we have it, picks won't help as much as you think.
Look at Vrabel last night with scrub WRs, injuries on the OL and his RB got hurt in the 1st quarter. Maye is good but that win was coaching, coaching in this modern game is huge, Xs and Os are the modern NFL not these blowhard cheerleader types, we are 20 years behind the league as usual.
I think some of this is a bit of hyperbole but yes I agree. He’s done a great job and he runs circles around Glenn and this coaching staff in every facet. The backup RB is a good player and Diggs is still really good. They also got to play against a backup QB for almost 3 quarters.
They aren't doing anything special from an Xs and Os standpoint, Vrabel isn't tricking anyone... Xs and Os wise what are they doing that is out-scheming people in your mind? I can point strongly though to evidence that they upgraded their talent. They signed a pro bowl WR in Diggs, an excellent superbowl winning CB in Carlton Davis, and an underrated team leader in Mack Hollins. And that's not even counting their biggest and best move, getting a stud DL from the SB champ Eagles for over $100 mill or their draft. Vrabel is a good NFL coach but at the end of the day its the players that win games and Vrabel would have around 4 wins here
