It will be good to see Carson Beck against the Ohio State defense and Mendoza against an SEC defense next week, or whenever they play
Definitely a B team that should not have been in the play-offs, but not a bad team. Not top 12, but perhaps top 25. To put up a 50 burger on them is pretty good. That throw where he looked left 1st, then quickly moved to the next read in the middle and threw a dime between 3 defenders was awesome. The INTs also were not his fault. The WR got bumped on the 1st one and could not get to his spot even though the throw was perfect, and on the second Moore got hit as he threw plus a WR slipped as well. That was an excellent showing, not too many misses on his part. Moore is still my #1 guy. Looking for forward to the next game on the New Years Day.
That Moore TD throw from the 50 that was a perfectly thrown rainbow down to the 4 yard line where he didn't even wind up or throw it hard was insane. Dude has a cannon. Higher ceiling than Mendoza but lower floor.
I would rather see Jets take Moore if he's there at our pick vs. giving up a bunch of picks to trade up for Mendoza. The new QB will have no supporting cast if we burn all this draft capital.
I’m around. Badly. Freak injury, surgery, loss of vision in one eye. On the upside - a pirate eyepatch and a really cool year for college football.
Hate to take sides in a spirited debate, but I have to lean with JV on this one. That pass was meant to err on the side of long, not short. Simpson’s job was a short drop and heave it up, expecting Bernard would beat one-on-one coverage. A better ball was a TD. I don’t doubt Simpson could go in Round 1, but if the 2025 season taught us anything it’s that you should want at least a two-year college resume before investing the next five years of your franchise in a QB. Partly why I’m out on Simpson. Easy to love his second half vs Oklahoma and the middle-third of the season that same guy showed up; still have to explain-away his first half vs. Oklahoma and the last third of the season when that guy didn’t. And I don’t buy the injury rumors.
Props to @Brook! - if you could pick any year to start a college QB discussion thread, this was the one. With the regular season, the Heisman and the first round of the CFP in the books, Moore is the only QB I’d want to spend a Round 1 pick on. My opinion on Mendoza has moved slightly, but not much. He showed some things as the season evolved that I didn’t know he had. The biggest - he showed the grit that all great QBs have to pull out games when Indiana could/should have lost. He also has a fantastic back shoulder throw that a guy like Matt Patricia should be smart enough to shut down, but couldn’t. I just think he has limitations that Cignetti does an incredible job of managing. If you’re drafting Mendoza waiting for that first 20-yard stick throw down the middle - good luck. A few guys worth a second or third round project - Mendoza included - but Moore is the only one I wouldn’t hate in Round 1.
Every time I see Carson Beck play I’m glad I don’t have to root for him anymore. …. which just means there’s like an 87% chance he’ll be at Jets camp next summer.
This anti-trust horseshit ESPN is selling us on is fixable without having P4 teams playing the 24th-ranked team in the first round. Good for JMU for not lying down. In the end, they got a pizza party for Selection Sunday, with all the Hawaiian Punch they could drink and a life lesson. Meanwhile, we got a crappy football game and Texas Tech got a whole bunch of sloppy Oregon defense on tape.
I’m ok with a single G5 team getting in. Two getting in was sort of silly but RG3 made a good point on his social media accounts; power 5 teams get blown out too. -Alabama lost 44-16 to Clemson -Oklahoma lost 63-28 to LSU -Ohio State lost 31-0 to Clemson -Ohio State lost 52-24 to Alabama -TCU lost 63-7 to Georgia -Florida State lost 59-20 to Oregon -Michigan State lost 38-0 to Alabama -SMU lost 38-10 to Penn State -Notre Dame lost 30-3 to Clemson -Tennessee lost 42-17 to Ohio State Yesterday still didn’t really answer any questions as to how he’s going to do when he has to step into a throw and get hit. Or will he step up in the pocket? He didn’t have to yesterday. JMU did send some pressure but a lot of it was front side and he made damn sure he got rid of the ball well before there was any danger. He throws off his back foot a lot rather than moving up or stepping into throws. The arm talent and athleticism is undeniable though. He is an effortless thrower. The ball glides off his hand and he throws an awesome tight spiral that looks like it’ll survive wind.
If you remember correctly Indiana got blown out last year in the first round of the playoffs and many people were saying they didn’t belong just like they are with JMU and Tulane
Funny enough their roster was built on a bunch of JMU transfers (and still sort of is) that Cignetti dragged with him.
Yeah, he didn't have to answer it because his release is so fast and has a lot of anticipation and accuracy. This is a translatable skill to the NFL. I think the kid needs to declare. Guys like McShea and even the commentators were kinda alluding that he should stay in school, but what is the point? He led his team to top 5, a play-off win and he got better as the season went along. His OC is leaving. And he will probably go #1 or #2, definitely top few selections of the draft. I just don't see the upside of staying for another year. Chances are he will go to a bad team next year too, good teams rarely finish on the bottom. I hope he declares and it makes a lot of sense for him to do so. I would not hesitate to draft him #1 overall and trade up to do so.
That doesn’t make sense dude. It’s still a huge question mark. The guys with the fastest releases in the NFL still have to play in a muddy pocket and take hits in the big leagues. We just watched a guy with a cannon and quick release ala Zach Wilson fail because he was scared to play from the pocket. I think Moore’s a much better prospect, but I don’t think you can just poo-poo that concern.
Chiefs backup QB minshew got hurt with a knee. Titans are currently up by 7 points. The bigger thing is if the Chiefs are running a 3rd string QB against the Raiders the last week of the season they certainly can lose. I also wonder if the Chiefs would intentionally tank to avoid the Raiders getting Mendoza. If the Titans win and Jets lose, the Jets will move up to the #4 slot it appears. There actually is a way the Jets end up with the #1 pick to at this point and its not to crazy. -Jets lose out -Giants beat Raiders -Raiders beat Chiefs -Browns beat Bengals The Jets basically have the same SOS currently as the Giants and Raiders so it could come down to that.
Chiefs look terrible. Raiders can absolutely beat them. More worried about Browns now tbh. They may beat the bills though haha
Yep the Jets either need the Giants to win and Browns to win or Giants to lose. Giants are the only trade partner. Im sure the Browns would take Mendoza. I do wonder if the Giants would be willing to trade with the Jets but if the Jets have the #2 and Giants have #1 its basically nothing lost in terms of draft position and the Jets have more to offer. If the Giants werent in the dumpster for so long I could see them saying no, but they need every pick they can get to.
