So true. 1998 was a magical year. What could have been. John Elway would have went out a loser--it would have been great.
that game was against Buffalo in 2001, and if you remember correctly, that spineless moron Herm didnt have the team ready to play a fucking 2-12 team!!! Vinny said the last pass he threw he knew was going to end up in bounds, but hes not allowed to audible. thats the most controversial thing hes ever said, saying that Hackett's playcall was doomed. buncha bullshit, what an idiot Herm is.
I was talking about the December 2 game against New England. Herman Edwards, Paul Hackett, and Vinny Testaverde were the three major culprits in the Jets failure to hold a 16-7 second half lead (and 13-0 halftime lead) at home. Testaverde threw an awful interception to Terrell Buckley.
That last play vs Buffalo happened right in front of me, I sit 20 rows up from that end zone. I'm sorry, I loved Vinny, but if he knew the play would lose the game he had to change the call and deal with the coaches later. They weren't going to bench him in Week 17. Losing that game gave New England the division, gave them the home playoff game in the snow instead of us and got their whole damn dynasty going. That and the end zone out pattern pick he threw at the end of the half at Baltimore in the 2000 finale are the two plays in Vinny's Jet career that I hold against him more than anything else he ever did. Aside from that, you live by the sword and you die by the sword, but in those two instances a veteran QB has to know better.
You make a good point, and I'm not saying Vinny had a stellar career by any stretch of the imagination. But we're talking about the Jets here. You mentioned mediocrity, and this franchise has been the epitome of midiocrity for decades, and Vinny, the washed up old QB comes in here and gives us something to believe in. That doesn't deserve praise?
Apparently not since everyone here hates him 'cause he tried to make a deal with the devil himself(bellichek) to get a ring....and got burned badly. But still....If Vinny were to come up to Mangini and say I'd like to be the QB coach(or assistant QB coach) of the Jets, I wonder what his response would be? 1. Get Lost 2. Who are you, again? 3. Sure......your job is to fetch coffee and donuts for us. 4. yeah....why not? I'm a forgiving man and am not a total jackoff like that guy in New England so....Welcome Aboard.
The loss to the 49ers shouldnt have been. The one time Garrison Herst decides to do something it comes against the Jets.
The strange thing is the Jet punter who pinned them back inside the 5 got cut after that game. I've never understood that.
I think that was Nick gallery and I remember being so pumped up when we pinned them at the 2. Oh well we should have won in regulation, SF's last TD should have been a pick- our rookie FS Kevin Williams blew that play.
