My guess is that Glenn wanted some experience on the staff as everyone else is new in their jobs. That angle backfired in spectacular fashion. Hiring Wilks to run the defense is the equivalent to Saleh hiring Hackett to run the offense last year. Both moves will probably have the same ending too.
It's worse. Hackett's hiring at least was done with the intention of securing the services of a future first-ballot Hall of Fame QB. I had more confidence in Gase and his staff than I do in this coaching staff.

Ok, now, keep this in mind. Full on pipe dream coming on here. Andy Reid decides he's done coaching and has squeezed all he can out the the Chief's and the NFL. Woody Johnson has a brief moment of clarity and Reid a moment where his guard is down. Johnson HIRES Reid to be the VP of Football operations and then takes a 5 year vacation to Russia. Reid subsequently rebuilds the Jets and they successfully have TWO above .500 seasons while Johnson is away. Putin decides the best place for Johnson is on the Ukrainian front lines where he joins his brother Chris who thinks money is what makes them brave and invincible..... Every Jets fan rejoices at the sale of the franchise to competent ownership as Roger G. decides that Brick is too young and too much of an idiot to take over the team because Woody and Chris are dirt napping in the Baltic region of the world. And, yes, I've been accused of having an overactive imagination from time to time. But, damn...I would do cartwheels and backflips where my spine wouldn't cooperate before. I would become a "Yoot" again!
Nope! Not good enough. Too many people here will not allow Woodless to make the hiring decision for Reid, or clones of Lombardi, Pop Warner, Landry or Rockne. They also won't allow him to hire headhunters, consultants or NFL fossils to aid in the selection. According to them, we are doomed for eternity with no way out.
Why? The season is done. Why stunt Glenn's growth by having him take over DC duties. At this point, they ride out the season and fire his ass the moment game 17 is in the books.
I should have been more specific. You're right. 24hrs after our last game of the season. Wilks should be filling his walk_box and headed to the parking lot never to return. His until has talent, but they really don't have a competent coach. Glenn has to go in a different direction at DC. That unit is the weakest link on the roster.
We have a DC for HC who has been unable to field even an average D The lack of turnovers is disgusting…at one point they put the graphic up showing how many players in the NFL had picks while the Jets have zero…can’t remember the exact number but I want to say it was over 60…some crazy number Again, the feel good wins against shit teams were a smokescreen…the Browns, Falcons, and Bengals without Burrow are about as bad as we are…and we got lucky with two kick returns in the Browns game otherwise that would have been a loss also. Again, I’m seeing nothing to convince me that Glenn is the answer at HC. Not a thing…the penalties which were at least improving, were back today…
