Wow, you mean a corner who is considered a top ten corner yet has sucked for the past two years? Sure lets go for him!
Samuel is not that good. His success is just the product of being in a superior system. Ask any Patriots fan about this.
Samuels had a total of 6 interceptions before this season. He was in a contract year and has a tattoo that says "Get Paid". I think there's a good chance that the Pats don't keep him, but the Jets don't get him either. Head to head, even though Clements is a year older, I think he's the better player. He'll also probably come cheaper after the year Samuels had.
Didn't Mangini develop Samuels? I say let him draft somebody and develop him. Hopefully, be the middle of next season the kid starts to come on a little. Dyson is a good corner and Poteat seems to be able to hold the fort.
If we could generate a legitimate, SB-contending pass rush, we wouldn't need Samuels and his high price. Corners don't have to be the best in the league to get the job done if your D-line gets in the passer's face on every pass play. All they need to be is good cover guys. Look at NE using Ray Mickens, for example. And Ray did a pretty good job for them. My man Lil' Ray! Priority One: we need to after a legit NT and move DeWayne Robertson back to where he's most comfortable. We need guys who will bring a ton of pressure. THEN our corners, maybe even the ones on our roster right now, will suffice.
Let's see how Miller developes in the off season. I know as far as up and downs go this year, he had many "downs", but i think he can be our starting corner. love his speed and aggressiveness. this league doesn't have any Deion Sanders type corners anymore. I think (or hope) Miller can fit the bill.
Miller has so much raw talent. You can see it sporadically.... he's terrific on one play and then gets burned badly on another. I hope this is still a rookie lack of concentration that can be corrected. It looks like it is. If we could pass-rush better you might see a world of difference in this kid and all our corners.
I hope so to i love miller and just wished that Mangini would be able to turn him into an elite corner cause he has all the skills.Hopefully year 2 would be better and maybe all we need is a pass-rush but right now i really want the proven product in Samuels, still hope Miller develops into an elite cb and it could be Samuels and him in our secondary years from now.
Thank you you get to the crux of the problem on defnese. The D-line was absolutely inadequate for a 3-4 defense to be successful let alone be dominating. This team needs D-line help before anything. One out of our 3 lineman was invisible, the other one was nearly so for large stretches and the NT took 1/2 a season to adjust. It is amazing the secondary and LB core held up the way it did. If the front office improves the D-line watch every other position get better by default. Great 3-4 defenses are defined by their line, particularly from the NT on out. Ellis was ok, Robertson improved tremendously and Kimo was terrible. Think about the math here out of the 3 only Robertson had a good season and that was the last half. That is room for a lot of improvement. Anyway, I am all for brining in FA secondary talent. I just think that the front office is going to shore up the line first. If they do that they can put pretty much anyone across from Dyson and the D would still be better. That being said I would rather have Clements than Samuel. However I think both would be rather expensive but would be a significant upgrade over what the secondary has now.
My man, from your post to God's ears! You walk on water. It all starts with the lines. Show me a team with two good lines and I'll show you a SB contender.
The exception to the rule is Jacksonville. But that is because their Head Coach is as dumb as a rock.
