Tyrod was widely considered one of the better back-ups in the League. And when healthy he is not a terrible starter, he would not even be the worst in the NFL, he is just injury prone. Otherwise he could start for quite a few teams. But you know he cannot last. You already saw him get hurt multiple time even though he barely played. But he appears healthy now. Let's run him into the ground, and yes, maybe Brady Cook can get ready to play too. Take a look at Cook's all 22 from preseason, it's actually pretty decent. Now of course I understand it's preseason, but still, we got the guy on the roster. CS says they like him, he is young, but at the same time already 24 and has been with the team all this time. Maybe he's got something. Let's run Tyrod first, and then when he is inevitably injured again we can kick the tires on Cook. At least that's what I would do.
Not until after the season!! We need to make good use of Fields' ineptitude as he's our best chance at a top 3 pick. More Fields and less winning!! Make the losing work for us!!!
I am on the tank as much as you to be sure and absolutely Fields gives us the best chance to lose, but the problem is that we cannot evaluate any players with him in. Or coaches really. He just shuts down the offense - or least that's what it looks like and we need to see if it can function with others. You know that the Jets have not won in like 50 years with the yards he produced last Sunday? That was negated of course by the historical performance of ST, which has never happened before in Jets history, but from the offensive perspective completely agree. With that said we need someone who would execute the plays, even if he throws picks, just so that the evaluation of both players and coaches and player development can take place. Fields is not that guy. At this point let Tyrod play, let Brady Cook play. I don't care if there are some INTs. I want to see if this offense works, if AD can develop, if we need to keep Metchie, develop Taylor, etc... Heck even Brady Cook, let's see if he can develop into capable back-up, that will save some money for next season too. Even Tanner, I want to see if he should stay also. I know it is a slippery slope when it comes to the draft pick, but to completely shut down the offensive development and evaluation is also a bit dangerous. Tough call there, but I would bring Tyrod starting Thursday, and get Cook ready to go to come in later in the season.
I’m not in the tank mode. First off, there is not enough talent at QB to rush to the podium, the better bet is move down a bit and capture more talent. You can take a stab at QB with the second first pick or first second. We need to build the moral of this team up with a few wins. This young hard playing group deserves that. Not destroy them with a tank that accomplish little. I look forward to see what Cook can do.
I don't think tanking is possible at this point even if they wanted to - who is there that could come in that would make that much difference that you would want to leave out? I agree that there doesn't seem to be (at the moment) a super hot QB prospect that teams will be fighting over but even so if you want to trade down then the higher your pick the more you might get for it
I'm with this. We have 5 first round picks over the next 2 years, 8 picks in the first two rounds. There's no QB Im running to the podium for and if there's a guy they want badly, they have plenty to move up and go get him. And I'm assuming it would only be by a spot our two if we're being realistic about where we'll finish the season regardless of who is at QB. We've done this for a decade now: professional players do not give a shit if some middle aged men on the internet want them to lose games. They are going to try to win every game. They are undoubtedly happier people when they win. You want Breece Hall back? You better hope for some wins. You want anyone worthwhile to take our bajillions of dollars next offseason? Better hope for some wins. You want the culture changed? Better hope for some wins. Tyrod gives us the best chance to win but considering how bad the talent is on this roster, we'll still lose plenty. I want Tyrod to play because it gives us a chance to see what we have in Metchie and Mitchell, lets us evaluate the OL who is for sure falling victim to a terrible QB that holds the ball, lets guys like Mason Taylor and Arian Smith get actual meaningful reps and gives the defense a chance to breathe (although there'd be plenty of 3 and outs still).
As far players not tanking, that's exactly the point: no matter what fans think is the best, players will try to win and it makes no difference either way when it comes to their performance. Heck if it mattered what we thought as fans, we would win SB every year. How to be a fan is up to us individually. So, in a lost season if you want to win a few more games even if the wins come by non translatable to 2026 ST miracles and worsen the chance to get a better QB, that's fine by me. Similarly I am only interested at this point in development and anything that can translate to 2026. If we get a few extra wins, because say AD Mitchell develops into true #2 WR, I would not mind that. I would also like to get a pick good enough to get a QB without losing an extra 1st or even striking out on 1st round QB talent completely. QB is the key for next year. Both lines of thinking are fine as far as I am concerned, and we can be fans how we want, and it does not impact the players trying to win at all. I think we are all on the same page though as far as wanting to see the development on the offense and wanting to see Tyrod and then even Cook play going forward.
You're choosing to find nothing that helps in 2026. -Kene is a locked in elite KR, you should work towards locking him up longterm (despite health concerns) -Isaiah Williams has turned it around and is now an above average PR. Good sign that the coaching staff held him accountable, could be your guy moving forward too -The young tackles were dominant against an elite pass rusher and Tippmann was great in the run game. Three anchors of the OL moving forward -Quincy Williams had the best game since his all-pro year, probably not coincidence it came after the CS held him accountable There's a difference between "I saw nothing" and "I didn't see the things I wanted to see".
I tend to see it your way. There are plenty of good little signs overshadowed by one major shortfall. Beyond your comments, I’m also very encouraged with the progress of rookies Moore and Thomas. Taylor is the real deal. Even Rucker is developing nicely with no one to throw him the ball. We might have a jewel with the special team coordinator and ST have been a key strength. Our punter is a breath of fresh air as is our kicker. Penalties have been mitigated significantly indicating correction by the staff. Let’s face it. Our biggest challenge is the dreadful inconsistency of the O and we all know why. How are we to evaluate progress of the TE and WR and to some extent even the running game with such a one dimensional predictable game plan tailored to accommodate a QB that cannot throw the ball. We are playing with a hand behind our back. Even with a serviceable back up we might be 4-5 easily.
You chose to see enough things you had no idea about for 2026 to not care about drop in pick and that's fine by me. I didn't and we can disagree. I remember a lot of fans, perhaps you included, being happy how we stuck it to Belichick in 2023 in the last game. That was all and good, but I didn't see many positives, and because of it they ended up with #3 pick and could get Drake Maye, who is now MVP favorite and will be in this division for a very long time. While we are still looking for the QB. At this point if we win I want to see bigger positives than what you listed, most of which I already knew, but again, you want to win as many as you can even now, I get that too. We can be fans in our own way. If it worked out my way though NE would not have Drake Maye!
listen man we literally have guys driving go-karts around the locker room after 7 straight losses. They need to learn how to play winning football and they need to learn how organizations that expect to win conduct business. 1st year under a new regime isn't the time to purposely tank games. They also have a treasure chest of multiple high draft picks now that they could move around anyway
I really don't care to get into the Maye thing but the three teams that drafted after NE weren't going QB. Arizona had Kyler signed to an extension, Chargers had Herbert slinging, Giants still thought Danny Dimes was the guy. It's very black and white to say our win in the final week got them Maye. There are so many variables that it's not even worth discussing. And what you're saying is exactly what I said... you only want to see things that matter to you. It's pretty disingenuous to say that no one cares about the OL, young TE, RB we want back, etc. or whatever point you were trying to make with the first sentence. I'd argue anyone who actually cares about 2026 should care about those things. And when you're a team that needs talent at almost every position it's inarguably a good thing to find a top tier KR and PR. Remember when we kept Gibson and you were telling me that keeping a PR is inconsequential, I tried to explain those are starters, then the PR cost us our first game?
Yes, you are indeed being completely disingenuous and as usual misquoting. Or simply not able to understand a basic point. Even Gipson point, I gave Glenn benefit of the doubt back then, but said I personally would cut Gipson BEFORE the game. On Maye, yes there would have been variables, but certainly not an easy pick like it was, he could have very easily been a Giant. I am not even sure what you are arguing now to be honest. I said enjoy being a fan the way you want, and I will do the same.
it’s been an odd twist in your saga to go from comparing Fields to Jalen Hurts and defending his play at every turn, to now ripping the staff endlessly for not benching Fields
I didn't compare him to Hurts, I said that was the hope - ceiling for him. That was the prize in the lottery ticket that was his signing in the offseason. But unlike others, I am just being honest. I thought he started pretty well, had some solid games, but then turned into total pumpkin. I wanted him to get plenty of opportunity, he got it, and ultimately failed to take advantage. It's time for a change and for someone else to get an opportunity. It's not odd, I just honestly call things how I see it without any agenda.
I can tell you exactly what the argument is: -you complained about a win and called it a special teams miracle that did nothing to show us hope for 2026, instead you wanted specific things you didn't see -I pointed out a bunch of things that happened in this game that are very relevant to 2026 -you didn't like that, told me that I didn't actually care about those things until now (at least I think that's what "You chose to see enough things you had no idea about for 2026" means) -I said I absolutely cared about those things and referenced something I said months ago which shows I gave a shit about it long before now I've said almost these exact words to you before: you can be a fan however you want but expect people to challenge it when it doesn't make much sense.
I was literally thinking this as I was responding to an earlier post. Two months ago one of us was saying Fields could be on the Hurts or Lamar level if he kept up his play from week 1 while the other was saying he never strings together good games. Fast forward, the Hurts/Lamar guy is saying the coaching staff is failing for not benching Fields and the "Fields sucks" guy is saying he understands why the staff won't bench him.
Full disclosure - I was bashing this guy as having no experience as a coordinator before coming here and the special teams has shined since that horrendous Dolphins game. https://x.com/Michael_Nania/status/1988313989961707949?s=20 Kudos to the job Chris Banjo has done this year. Haven’t really seemed any shanked punts either although I have a hard time crediting a coach for that.
