Only in a blowout or injury scenario. Cook won't play simply because Cook isn't paid $20M. Fields bought himself another start last game. He can thank Engstrand for that. Frankly he should treat Engstrand and the entire OLine to a dinner at Pete Lugar's. (Famous NYC Steak Joint).
Fields shouldn't really be here next year, if they aren't going to design a play script for his skill set this season, what would be the point of keeping him? Though I was pleased he rammed dumb asses' words back down his throat.
Its all gonna depend on these last few games of this season where Fields winds up in '26. If he plays like he did last game? He'll be here in '26 but I don't think it would prevent the FO/CS from drafting one of the blue chip QB's in the class of '27.
Our run D has been pretty poor. With Q gone and his brother on the bench, can it get better? Even serviceable? That rookie Judkins looks like the real deal.
Sunday's game is meaningless for the most part. Fields is playing for his professional career as he knows this is his last stop in the league. Good time for Engstrand to keep that playbook open and not let Field's limitations dictate the style of play. Either Fields executes the offense, or someone else will get the opportunity. Either way, there will be a QB drafted either in '26 or '27. Fields has the most to play for and lose on Sunday.
Glenn better go for 2 this week. As in two in a row. I think the Jets find a way to win this and get a tiny bit of optimism going. We've got some $$$ and draft picks. Now we need a little optimism.
Too easy to shit on the Jets daily.. Far harder to show some optimism in a losing season even with the future finally starting to look brighter.
This week is big for us, we lost 7 straight and it took the passing of a legend and the leagues worst defense to make us look competent last game. If we come out hot and throw up 20+ on the Browns (that should be enough to win) and the defense can hold a terrible offense under 20 then we will have some optimism (albeit small because of the level of competition again). If this thing turns back into a pumpkin and we shit the bed after 2 weeks to prepare against a bad Browns team then the chatter is only going to get louder.
I think the team is chatter-proof from here on out. We traded our two best defenders for assets through 2027. No one is getting fired in 2025 or 2026. All it means is we’re back to watching a complete dogshit product.
I agree but I am optimistic still, if this team wins one game and the coaching is as bad as it has been this fan base will be ravenous and the analysts will contribute to the outrage hopefully fueling Woody to do the right thing for once in his life. Especially if all the new rookie coaches across the league besides ours all have successful seasons and we only win one game. At that point handing over all these picks and new players to Glenn would look like throwing them in a well. Something would have to give at that point, keep Moug and dump everyone else, bring in McCarthy or someone similar and roll with a rookie QB and a bevy of draft capital.
I predict we knock out Gabriel and Shadeur Sanders gets his 1st NFL action. It wont go well for him and the Jets win
That would require hitting the QB which we don’t do. Silver lining: roughing the passer flags are down from last year!
We will see if the future is brighter. Mougey has to hit a HR these next couple of drafts with all of these 1st and 2nd RD picks he will have. We always joke that the Jets time to shine is the offseason but after these trades the next couple of drafts really is the Jets time to shine. We will see how Mougey does but the Jets are set up nicely to get this turned around with all of these picks they now have.
I think perhaps I've overlooked one coach that also has a lot on the line this week. That would be Steve Wilks. His defense so far has been just shy of pathetic. No turnovers. Not many sacks. Too many yards allowed. Now with Soft Gardner and QW gone, he's gonna have to really earn his game check with the personnel he still has. If the Browns put over 30pts on his defense, he should start getting more of the incoming flak than Glenn as that's his unit to run. He's been getting a pass so far as Glenn has been everybody's primary target. Ulbrich's defense sucked in year 1 too so perhaps that's why Wilks hasn't been on the shitlist.
we get our 1st interception this week. It has to happen. Weirdly while we havent intercepted a QB, Fields has not thrown one for us. Both of those are so weird and random. I think a streak has to break this week
I wouldn't call the Fields one random, you have to actually throw into tight windows for that to happen not receivers so open they could make a PB&J waiting for the ball.
