Exactly, although none of the names you've used as examples thrill me. But I go further - I want the Jets to have not one, but two viable candidates in the next year and a half - one who turns out to be here for the next decade. At least one should come from a draft, the other could be a younger veteran or a second draft pick.
Maybe he's been hurt? Oh, wait - he is. How bad? I guess we need to wait and see; at least it's someone else's problem.
I also hope Glenn would get better, but we are 1-7 and the defense is #27. So far Glenn sucked. Sauce was good, maybe even very good, but not great. This is not the same Sauce of 1st two years with Bob. On this defense everyone is expandable for the right price. And we got more than a right price for him, which we can now use to acquire a QB and surround him with talent, which is more critical than having a very good corner. Besides, lets see how AZ does in Sauce's place and how big the drop off would be there. We might even have 2 good long term CB starters on the roster even without Sauce.
https://x.com/i/status/1986168749708169466 Hall saying he'll be here next year if the Jets will have him. Yeah, right.
I also don't see a way to keep Quincy. For that reason I would prefer to have traded him, but the offers might have been really low. Clearly we we are not winning this year and traded the best defensive players, but at the same time they did make sure get a DT back and then traded a 2028 7th for CB Ja'Sir Taylor, who is on the expiring contract. So, if someone offered max 6 for 7 swap on Quincy or just 7th, much like in the case of Ja'Sir, they figured they need LB depth this year, and it's not worth to give him up. It appears while they are definitely looking to make impact in 2026 and 2027, they don't want to put out complete shit PS players on the field this year, and even are willing to forego late round picks in order to do it.
From what I understand with Breece, while he prefers to be traded to a winning team and finally win some games, and this is far from guaranteed here, he actually likes this CS and does not mind to be here. So, he does not want to rule out the Jets for next season, which is smart. Now of course if KC offers him a better contract, he will go there, but we can and should tag him to prevent that scenario. Veteran RBs are not that expensive. Breece is a top 10RB in the NFL and you can plug that hole with a great player for relatively cheap. He is probably our team MVP to date and we have his rights for a relatively small amount for someone who is top 10 at the position. And he will greatly help new QB. A 3d round pick is a long shot to be at that level and we need to have a QB surrounded with talent next year, that was one of the major points I think of the deals that we did. Breece is a no brainer to tag and keep and even extend.
I’d like to keep him as well I’m guessing he’d jump at the chance to bail to a better team, and if he hits free agency, he WILL get good offers…if we want to keep him we either have to lock him up before that or use a tag on him…if we let him go explore, he’s not signing here. And I know that RB’s have a depressed market, but I don’t want to feel like I’m sure the Giants fans felt when they let Saquon go because, you know, why pay a RB?, and then watched him dominate and get the Eagles to a Super Bowl…I’d hate to see Hall balling out for the Chiefs next year
I would say if KC offered a 3rd he'd now be wearing red and I would also suggest he will be gone in the summer tbh, the Jets would have to offer him crazy money but I still think he will say to himself, he has enough money and a chance of winning with KC will trump anything the Jets could offer him.
I am not so sure this is a fact he would have been gone for a 3d. I know there were reports they would take the 3d, but these were from other sources, not the Jets. Maybe the Jets said 3d and a player, maybe something else. We just don't know, because since the Jets are not the source, these reports are second hand. We know with high degree of certainty that they were offered the 4th and (since there was no trade) said no. Would they say yes to a 3d? Maybe, maybe not, but without having Jets as the source, I just don't think we can conclusively say yes to that. I personally would not even trade him for a 3d, especially late one, which KC pick will likely be. Look at the best RBs. These were drafted pretty high in the draft: McCaffrey, Barlkey, Gibbs, Jeanty, Robinson, Jacobs, 1st round. Breece belongs on that list. It's pretty hard to get a top 10 RB, dual threat, even in the second round. In the 3d - very rare. We got him top of the 2nd, and that was a steal. But the thing is, a lot of time trades are made because not only do you get a pick, but also you save on salary. Like with Sauce we saved 30 mil. With Breece, it's 11-14 mil tag. This is not a massive amount for someone who is a terrific weapon and has been team MVP this year, who is just 24 years old. If we lose Breece this summer, even for a 3d round pick, I would be greatly disappointed. He is the exact weapon our new QB will need. Just keep him for 14 mil and plug other holes. You will not replace him with a 3d round selection, probably you would need a 1st round selection to give him a weapon like that. Just keep him, extend or tag, and that's it. It's very easy. Hopefully Mooge doesn't overthink it.
The report out there is that the Jets would’ve moved him for a 3rd but KC refused to move off their offer of a 4th. Point taken on the running backs you listed but the leagues leading rushers were drafted or acquired as per the below. 1. Jonathan Taylor (2nd round - 41st overall) 2. James Cook (2nd round - 63rd overall) 3. Rico Dowdle (FA acquisition, original UDFA) 4. Javonte Williams (FA acquisition, original 2nd round - 35th overall) 5. JK Dobbins (FA acquisition, original 2nd round - 55th overall) 6. Derrick Henry (FA acquisition, original 2nd round - 45th overall) 7. De’Von Achane (3rd round - 84th overall) 8. Travis Etienne (1st round - 25th overall) 9. Christian McCaffrey (traded for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks, original 1st round - 8th overall) 10. Bijan Robinson (1st round - 8th overall) It’s a bit of an obtuse way to look at it as running backs are also heavily involved in the running game and this excludes that. But I’ve always maintained the 2nd and 3rd rounds are where you get backs but they HAVE to be bell cows. And almost all of the backs on the list acquired in FA are on very cheap affordable contracts.
I think you actually just made his point though…all of those guys except for Dowdle and Achane were 2nd or 1st rounders…trading Breece for a 3rd does not get you a pick that will get one of these kind of quality backs… Yes you can find them like the Panthers did with Dowdle, but it’s kind of a rare exception. I’m with Borat on this one…I’d rather try and keep Hall even if we have to tag him or pay him somewhere in that range…the player is well worth it, especially for a young QB that will need to lean on a guy like this who can run with great vision but also catch the ball well…in fact I would argue that we’ve been under-utilizing him so far this year The most obvious cautionary tale is right here with the Giants…they actually had a top RB but got caught up into this “wisdom” that backs aren’t worth much…I’m sure they were super happy to see Saquon go off for about 2000 yards and lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl. Not saying Hall is Saquon, but he is a talented two way threat and can be leaned on more than we’ve done
https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/onsi...ce-that-could-involve-joe-burrow-01k9d226zat6 Pretty funny, figured I would put it here to discuss. Me personally, 3 1s (1 this year 2 next) and I would do it in a second.
Hell yeah now we’re talking 1st and 2nd in 2026 2 1sts in 2027 Jets get Joe Burrow and have normal drafts with still 1 pick each round
How did I make the point though? The top 7 guys were 2nd/3rd round picks or found on below market FA contracts other than Henry who got an above market contract. I’m not making an argument to keep Breece or let him go without an offer really as far as posting that. I’d offer him 3 years/$45 million at most and walk away when he demands more because he doesn’t want to be here. He’s quite frankly been a locker room whiney bitch. This regime doesn’t want to deal with that. I’d rather go give Tyler Allgeier 3/$30 million and pair him with the two guys we have and let them smash people and play hard than roll their eyes in every press conference and post crying emojis on Twitter about usage.
I didn't see too many 3d round picks there, only 1 and 1 UDFA. Top RBs are mostly drafted 1st or 2nd round. A lot of them even top 15. And we were not even offered a 3d. Now I do get your point that we can sign someone solid at RB as a FA, but I doubt it will be someone as good as Breece. I really like Breece's ability to catch the ball also. If he demands more than 3/45, he is going to have to play on a tag, like Barkley did, not the end of the world.
Breece won’t play on the tag. He’ll definitively hold out. That’s a waste of time. Part of moving Q and Sauce out of the building was Q complaining behind the scenes, Sauce allegedly showing up late to meetings stoned, etc. Breece has relentlessly (even if subtly) complained about how much he doesn’t want to be here. That doesn’t help the building effort. He’s also not nearly as good as everyone here makes him out to be. He’s fast when he has a lane. He can’t find the lanes very well though. He also doesn’t really break tackles nor can he make guys miss in the open field. Breece has run his course here honestly.
I don’t get it You’d think we’re rolling in fucking talent the way we’re so happy to justify getting rid of good players…
