This is a pretty clear indication that we're punting on this season. What scares me most is that THIS management team has all of these picks.
Deion Sanders, Jalen Ramsey, Champ Bailey, Aeneas Williams, Revis. To a lesser extent, Charles Woodson but he was 29.
Fans (yes, on here too) who label Sauce Gardner as 'faded', 'not top tier', 'used to be a lot better' are the reason we can never have nice things. Sauce IS top tier, elite. Sauce Gardner IS the type of player a good DC can build an entire Defense around. We JUST locked Sauce up for the next 4-5 seasons, more than enough to support our rebuild and beyond. It's going to be A LOT harder and take A LOT longer to 'rebuild' when our secondary can't stop a nose bleed. "Ya, but we got extra draft cap!!!". True, but we also got a huge hole in our defense that took us almost a decade to fill the last time (2013 Revis->2022 Sauce) Now Quinnen? He's top 5 too, but he's older and DT is not necessarily an impact position. Moving on for draft picks is easier to understand with QW.
Revis was traded in year 7 at 28 Bailey traded in year 6 at 27 Williams never even made a pro bowl til he was traded Ramsey is the closest thing and the team that traded him has blown since. Not that there’s a direct correlation but the track record on trading stars in their prime for picks ain’t great.
It doesn't matter how many times fans are blamed for the Jets losing players, games, drafts and seasons it never makes an ounce of sense.
Bailey was 25 when he was traded in the offseason and turned 26 in training camp in his first year with the Broncos. They get 8 games of 25 year old Sauce and the rest will be 26 year old Sauce next year so it’s pretty close. You’re looking at Revis being a year and a half older than Sauce. So I’d say these qualify as pretty close.
Interesting................... More than HALF the posters in this thread made the obvious statement, "IF they draft well." Or some type of comment to the thought. And "why" did folks say that? Could it be because this team drafts so poorly it's the ONE NFL statistic they LEAD in. Pretty much year to year. The NY Jets are, quite accurately I might add, known as the worst drafting team in the NFL and, in some circles, considered the worst draft team in professional sports that hold drafts. THAT is saying something. So, of course, the best thing to do, when you draft soooooo "expertly" is to toss the small number of picks they actually DID hit on for unknowns that they will most likely jack up in pure epic fashion. I don't know, folks. My "hope-o-meter" is fresh out of AA batteries and this doesn't ring like it will have a solid outcome. One thing I'd like to point out... Who here actually thinks Moog is doing the talent evaluating? I think ya'll better check again. He's getting his information from somewhere. What I want to know is who and what is that somewhere. You have to work HARD at being this bad this long. No way in hell this many GM's can be this bad so, what I want to know is who in the fuck is compiling all this shit? WHO is traveling school to school? Who is making all these TERRIBLE recommendations over the years. Inquiry minds want to know. Moog was just delivered a King's Ransom in the span of 24 hours and I want to know WHO is compiling the data that man uses, on draft day? Anyone? I'm going to get to the bottom of this because we are going against the odds here and that bothers me.
I think there is a reason to this madness. #1, Mooge traded defensive guys. This massive capital can be used in part to help offense and make it a great environment for the new QB. Something Sam and others didn't have. Otherwise you blow your entire draft load for a QB and then surround him with shit. Also it's not just the picks, the money saved can be used on FAs as well. #2, We are only trading players for the right price. According to Connor Hughes, we had offers for Quincy for a 5th or 6th, JJ 2nd, and Breece 4th. Mooge said no. The price wasn't right and he didn't pull the trigger. #3, We have pretty solid replacements already on the roster for Sauce and Q. Now, of course it will not be 1 for 1, but AZ and Briggs have played pretty well and can start the rest of the way. For Breece, Quincy, and JJ there is really no replacements now of similar caliber. All and all, Mooge seems to be operating pretty logically, which is good to see.
You're absolutely right. The 2022 draft was a home run but the 2021 draft was catastrophic. I don't need to even mention the Wilson pick but there were some amazing players in the top 10 that could have changed this franchise, even with a mentally damaged Sam Darnold at QB. Just imagine Darnold having Jamarr Chase as a weapon. Or Penei Sewell protecting him. And they kind of whiffed on their next couple of picks as well. AVT is a really good player when healthy but it was really questionable trading up for an OG, especially when there was other good OL talent on the board in the late first. Vikings grabbed Christian Darrisaw at the spot that the Jets would have picked at. Then they chose Elijah Moore in the 2nd (BUST) and RB Michael Carter in the 3rd (BUST).
I totally agree! The jets fleeced the colts and then fleeced the Cowboys. Both Sauce and Q are good players but neither is great, and frankly both are a bit overrated IMO. .. Both are in their second contract which means they are already rich so they're not that hungry to work harder. The jets' compensation for Sauce was great for a CB! Two first rounders and a WR is compensation usually for a franchise player which Sauce is not. The jets were 5-12 last year and 1-7 this year WITH those two guys, so what have the jets got to lose? They are super deep at CB anyway. The future finally is looking brighter w the draft picks they got..
I will agree that the return was very good…no argument there…we now have 5 first rounders in the next two drafts. Hard to argue with that. I will however disagree with this “we weren’t good with them, so we can continue losing without them” line of thinking…it’s a fallacy…we weren’t winning for many reasons, but Sauce and Q were not part of those reasons…we were losing because our coach sucks…can’t even meet a low bar of 5 fucking wins that the previous coaches got with this team, we were losing because our QB play absolutely sucks, and yes our defense sucks, but not because of those two guys. I also don’t agree with the argument that getting rid of them is ok as they weren’t playing up to their standard of prior years…and I agree they haven’t been but again I think that’s due to the coaching being abysmal… I can’t do anything about it so I have to just hope like the rest of us that Mougey makes good with these picks, and if they turn out to land us a true franchise QB and a bonafide WR to pair with GW, maybe it’ll be worth it. Sorry but I just think these are two guys that should have been part of the solution…I guess they will be in terms of bringing draft capital, but dreaming about draft capital has been the only fucking thing this team has been able to do, and then almost always we fuck up the picks. I’m not thrilled but yeah, at least the return was very good … which in a way is better than what we’ve been used to ….
Not only blowing interceptions, but blowing game changing/winning ones. Minnesota last year in London comes to mind. He had a knack for dropping seemingly easy picks and was over rated in coverage. He got a great reputation after his first year and was living off that as he racked up pass interference call after pass interference call.
