Is it really that much though? The Browns had the most 4th down attempts last year at 44. The Lions had 33. This year the league leading team has 19 about half way through the year. Unless I’m missing something on the numbers below.

And that includes the ridiculous ones teams go for down 10 with 3 mins left and it’s 4th and 17 on their own 40.

This looks at instances where teams decided to go for it on 4th down. I'm talking about all 4th downs where the decision to go or not is debatable, as defined by win probability moving 5% or less based on going vs. kicking.

Here's actual numbers... something Glenn said he was going to do and by all means is starting to do after a rough start:

    https://www.footballdb.com/statistics/penalties.html

16th in penalties, 16th in penalty yardage. Still 8th in pre-snap penalties but there's marked improvement. We're actually now in the red in terms of penalty yards for vs. penalty yards against. Low bar, but I'd rather it start to get fixed slowly than not at all.

got off to a bad start with the Buffalo game, but yeah less penalties the last few weeks. Quincy Williams being out has helped that too though.

That's because there's no way to factor in emotion. I didn't like the early fourth down call but could easily shrug it off that early in the game. My much larger problem was the play called. It looked like it was a problem for Glenn as well.

I agree that there should be someone informing Glenn of the statistics. What he chooses to do with that knowledge is just one part of what will make or break him.

I won't be surprised if the Jets get swept by the Disaster Dolphins with whatever interim coach they have.

That's fine. Might even be preferable come mid-December. Doesn't change the fact that the Dolphins are probably in the worst shape of any team in the league and they are one of the few teams we can say "at least we aren't them" about.

Whatever it takes I guess. Whenever I start rationalizing like that, I usually realize whatever team I'm comparing them to will probably be winning games when the Jets are hiring their next coach in 2 years

If it were any team other than Miami I'd agree. How lucky for the Bills and Pats that two of the worst franchises in the sport play in their division?

Funny thing.....I live in Florida and know too many Dolphin fans.

Their only relief according to them, "at least I'm not a Jet fan."

Perspective is goofy sometimes. We mock them for being in the sewer while we hangout in our gutter.

The difference is the Dolphins have solid talent at all levels. The Dolphins only failure is not putting a line together that keeps the rush off Tua.

If they land a Tomlin or a Kingsbury…..

The Jets, conversely, are basically poo across the board save for 3 or 4 players, with NONE of them worth a franchise tag. Wilson is the closest and, let’s face it, he got that “scrittlen” just because it’s what the position pays. He has elite hands and that’s about it.

I didn’t say we’re in much better shape but it’s not even debatable who has worse. One team has nobody but their young stars locked up long-term. The other team has a terrible quarterback locked up long-term, an aging wide receiver coming off a career altering injury eating up a ton of money next year, probably entering fire sale mode getting pennies on the dollar and then has to convince someone to take the job. I don’t want to be either of us but I know which one I would want to be less.

The Dolphins roster is completely devoid of talent though. Their offensive line is a mess, Tyreek is definitely gone. They keep taking defensive linemen in the draft and the run defense is awful.

They’re also stuck with a very physically limited QB in Tua who’s (rightfully) scared to get hit. His contract is atrocious.

They really might have the least attractive coaching job I can remember. No talent, no money because bad talent is locked up, terrible owner. Imagine us but Fields is still due $100 mil ($56 mil gtd next year), Garrett Wilson broke his leg and was aging and a piece of shit and we didn’t have Sauce.
