I’ve maintained for several years that Tippman sucks and needs to be upgraded. He was the one mostly getting abused based on these clips. The one where he runs around Fashanu, we’d have to see the whole play. It looks it was supposed to be a RPO where he’s the unblocked player anyways and then he penetrates so fast he either forgot his assignment or tried to slow him down. Membou looks like he got caught a couple times with stunts. You can live with that in his 7th ever start. We need to go get a real center next year. Whether it’s the draft or free agency. We’ve had garbage center play for a decade since Mangold retired.
This was just by one player, Derrick Brown, that Baldy posted. Trying to get more footage. But in general feels like the line regressed since looking decent originally. You are right about the C position though, Myers hasn't looked good lately either. The tackles are also a bit less consistent than before and blitzes are very effective against us. I am no expert on OL play, but looking at the overall regression as well as individual by multiple players, a lot is pointing at coaching there.
Everything regressed from last year, every single position group, every single player on this team. That's on the coach.
It seemed we had depth before the season started but losing AVT was probably a much bigger loss than it seemed at the time.
There are a lot of missed assignments. How many times can I watch a linemen stick with a double team and ignore the blitzer, who wasn't even hiding his intention to blitz?
This! It’s infuriating. Like they’ve never fucking heard of a blitz and just have blinders on…there was one play where literally the C and RG double teamed the DT to the right and the blitzer rushed straight up the middle where the C should have been It’s crazy
Whenever there is a shitty QB you will find an OL that looks shitty. The QB calls protections and “should” recognize blitzes and understand when and where to get the ball out. If the QB is incompetent the OL is also going to look bad.
Taylor is not known to be incompetent and he got hurried and hit all the time, just like Fields. We can't blame all on the QBs. Huge part is coaching also and there is some blame on OL and others who protect as well.
I’ve seen those too, I wonder who isn’t calling out the protections correctly. Bustin Fields or the center
I'm not an O line guru, but even I can see Tippman getting beat it doing the wrong thing constantly. Think it's safe to say on 75 percent of the breakdowns he is involved.
This would be a major feat for the Jets to have invested so much into the OL and they still suck? Obviously fields makes them look like hot shit, the coaching seems to be horrific in all departments, will this team ever do anything right
Jets have allowed the most sacks (31) but we are only #2 in terms of total sack yardage (with 220yds vs Titans on 237yds) so that is something right? right?
Nonsense. Teams lose lineman all season long. Losing one guy didn’t suddenly turn our OL into trash. Bad coaching on the other hand can trash a team quickly.
This mirrors my assessment; I don't think the Jets have a single position group that I'd rate in the top half of the league. And many I'd rate in the bottom quarter (or lower). I think there are a ton of indicators that this team is checked out and going through the motions.
Yeah but this is interesting too QB - talent got WAY worse so both talent and coaching WR - talent got WAY worse so may be more talent based than coaching RB - Talent stayed the same…could be more coaching than talent (though Allen has been out) OL - talent got better…results are a little better but coaching still a mess DL - talent maybe about the same? JJ came back but hurt a bit, DT next to Q got a bit better, so a lot of coaching here DB - talent got WAY worse (losing Reed hurt a lot more than expected for it’s trickle down effect) LB - talent the same, so more coaching than anything K/P - talent got better I think coaching overall has been a pretty big negative so far Maybe it is growing pains and learning the systems so we’ll see how we trend the rest of the way, but so far, there is nothing I can point to and say, look, Coaching has improved our team and elevated our talent and maximized it. In fact it’s fully the opposite. And THAT’S why I am 100% fine with one and done for AG and this staff…I don’t think Woody is smart enough to realize it, so I don’t think he will do it, I think we are going to have to suffer through another year of AG and this staff at least, if not another two years, unless something drastic happens, like an 0-17 record because honestly, I don’t even thing Woody would fire AG with a 1-16 record and the top pick … even though he absolutely should if that’s how we end up
It's a combo of both, and I'd say even more of an emphasis on the actual talent. We have a god awful roster, it was literally ranked the worst before the season started. Most people saw it without having to read through some rankings. The hope was that we'd have a coach who can get the most out of talent and find some diamonds in the rough. The awful talent we can into the season with hasn't gotten any better. And that's where it's on coaching. But there's only a handful of coaches who could win with this QB and the worst WR room in the NFL. But then again, these guys were basically handpicked by the current regime. Long story short: everyone failed.
