I really thought Glenn would be the guy, but so far he's a total dud. There are good signs, though. The special teams and defense are playing really well. I'm wondering if Glenn is actually watching the games or if he's just totally clueless because his situational awareness is the worst I've ever seen. Also, the offense and Fields have gone backwards since week 1. Was week 1 an exception for Fields? He looked so good and the play-calling was excellent. Since then, Fields doesn't even look like a competent back-up and the play-calling does not emphasize his running ability.
The Jets will hire someone worse next. It's what they do. So I'm for keeping Glenn. Even if he is terrible, he's still too good for this organization.
I understand what some are saying about keeping Glenn and the optics but I truly can't fathom how anyone who has watched these games can feel that way. He makes players worse, name one that has improved this season. Who has taken a step back? Carter, Quincy, Sherwood, Hall, Fields (he looks worse than ever) and that's just what pops into my head. He is a bad coach, anyone with eyes can see it. This team doesn't have the benefit of giving a shit about optics, keep Glenn and waste another year and probably another QB, if that's what you want to sign up for to save face then good luck but I am sick of watching teams turn it around year after year while we flounder at the base of the well of shame.
Exactly how I feel so far…ok sure it’s only 7 games and our roster isn’t great, but for sure it’s just not THIS bad and you are right…I can’t point to anyone who has gotten better under this coaching staff. I also continue to see the same shit week after week. We are STILL getting too many pre snap penalties…hard to believe I don’t think we had any turnovers yesterday, but yet we still only have 1 takeaway through 7 games. He has not made anyone better. I just hate wasting yet another year because of “optics”…bullshit…plenty of teams have fired coaches after one year…shit the Pats did it for Mayo and they are leading the division…
Not only that, but wasting next year for "optics" will mean potentially wasting the next 4-5 years. They have to get the QB pick right at the top of next year's draft or the playoff drought will reach two decades.
Yeah…too true Point 1 - we HAVE to draft a QB high this year, almost certainly with our top pick Point 2 - we HAVE to have the right coach and system in place to nurture and develop that QB… Does ANYONE feel like AG is the right coach for that? He’s been a total shitshow
I don't know, we stumbled our way into negative passing yards a week ago. Maybe the Jets will make history and become the first team to figure out how to win a negative number of games.
That's why I said doesn't get "much" worse. It could definitely be worse! Still though, maybe Brick randomly will get some offensive coach on Madden and wins with him, brings him in, and that guy actually turns out decent. Dumbass Woody needs to make a change.
Meanwhile in Detroit, the Lions just held the 5-1 Buccaneers to 9 points and 251 yards of total offense. The best part about the whole performance is they have all 5 starting defensive backs out this week. Two corners, two safeties and their nickel. https://x.com/BradGalli/status/1980502552052486217 Looks like they upgraded their defensive coordinator.
Woody needs to look at the Patriots as an example for how they handled their coaching situation last year. The difference is there was a great coach available who clearly wanted the job and I'm not sure who that would be next coaching cycle, but an example of cutting ties early when things are off the rails without optimistic signs. Technically, it's only been 7 games so as bad as it's been, maybe things can get better. The defense all of a sudden has looked half decent and penalties are down so maybe change is possible. But as it stands now, I really hope Glenn as an HC candidate wasn't more smoke and mirrors and show than substance, but I've been having that thought...
Their front 7 made life hell on baker and that Oline….Aiden was repeatedly killing their RT…McNeill came back too…I think their LB’s had like 4 sacks on the game. Just crazy pressure.
We used to have really good pressure with Q, JJ, and Huff…then JD let Huff go for nothing, fucked up with Reddick, tried to get McD to replace Huff (which hasn’t really worked so far other than a few flashes) and JJ got hurt and there went our pressure. And with it our D. And our DC/HC combo can’t figure out how to blitz effectively or create confusing looks on the back end True the last two games our D played better but I’m not sure if that’s just the competition level (Carolina is no offensive juggernaut, and Denver’s O isn’t all that crazy either), so I am still in the Show Me phase, but if the D can finally come around then great. Still think we need a quality starting DE so McD can move back to a situational pass rusher as that dude has been invisible for way too long, still need a real CB2, and still need at least one starting S.
Aaron Glenn will not be one and done: Ian Rapoport @RapSheet “I do believe in Aaron. … if I were a player I’d respond to him. There’s no BS, there’s no agendas.” #Jets owner Woody Johnson, who speaks to Aaron Glenn every day. He tells him, “Keep the faith.”
I don't think Glenn will be one and done because Woody always waits too long to fire guys but this quote doesn't mean much either way. Even Woody isn't dumb enough to publicly bash the coach he just hired.
