This is the result of our new regime, specifically whatever the GM name is, zero talent, the secondary is complete trash, QW and that's it, Garden is brought up, because he just signed a big contract, what does he bring to the table, can't tackle, creates 0 turnovers, can't even get after the QB, but hopefully we draft more OL
I think our OL is better this year than it was last year and last several years…LT, LG and RG (formerly C) were JD picks and AVT was as well, and the RT and now C are Mougey picks…it took us a long time but at least it feels like we finally have an OL that is at least average, compared to the shitshow we’ve had for years now. I know drafting OTs high in the first in back to back years isn’t the sexiest or most exciting way to go, but I did then and I still feel like those were the right picks to make. Yes, we missed out on Bowers and Warren who are both looking good, but OT trumps TE every time, and I do think this Taylor kid may end up being pretty good.
Big part of this is the coaching too. I'm not even sure our current OL coach has been awesome but anyone was an upgrade over Keith Carter who everyone seemed to despise other than Saleh.
This is what happens when your defense is Quinnen Williams, an overpaid CB, and otherwise a bunch of below average to reserve type players. The Jets don't have a viable edge rusher, nor a single above NFL average LB or safety, nor more than 1 viable starting CB. I don't think it's coaching. I think these dudes just really suck. Will McD made an impact play for his career finally and it was on specials. Otherwise he's been a complete non-factor for the past 4 weeks. Top 1st round edge in his third year and he has yet to show that he's an upgrade in any way over Bryce Huff.
Yet another move that most of this board realized was idiotic the second we made it. Cannot stress how maddening it is when the people being paid millions of dollars per year to get this stuff right are regularly outwitted by amateurs.
The defense made two of the stupidest plays ever on the touchdown before the half they were burned on a play action pass. There was little time, a run play was not possible so it’s inexcusable to get burned on the play action on the Pickens bomb, there were 7 defensive backs on the field and the Cowboys had 2 wide outs running routes. I’m sorry but yeah I get the coaching staff blame but these players are supposed to be professionals. Those were on the players
Personnel is terrible. Quinnen is the only good D Lineman. Losing Jermaine Johnson and Quincy Williams was brutal. The secondary SUCKS. Ahmad Gardner is the only slightly above average player in the secondary, and he is highly overrated. The Safety play is atrocious and has been for YEARS. They have too many starters who are just straight up losers. Brandon Stephens, Tony Adams, Andre Sisco, Braden McGregor, Michael Clemons, everybody currently playing LB not named Jamien Sherwood. All these guys are LOSERS. They need to plug many holes in free agency on defense.
0:29 left in the half... No timeouts. At their own 33.... The Cowboys call a draw to run out the clock. Sherwood vacates his spot in the middle at the snap.... and the Jets give up a 66-yard run straight up the gut. Fucking brutal...
Why not bring Germaine Pratt in if he wants to come here? He’s always been known as a hard hitting run stuffer and he definitely hasn’t ever been known to be loafing around.
Here is the crazy thing. JJ was out last year too. Adams was a starter. Clemons was a starter. Cisco was not here, but Clark is similar, maybe even worse. Sherwood was a team MVP last season. DJ Reed was obviously better than Stephens, but Stephens actually was pretty decent last few games. To counter DTs Phillips and Briggs are actually significantly better than last year Kinlaw and Thomas. We are bringing 8 starters back. And yet last year with Bob after 5 games defense had one bad game (against 49ers in the opener) and was #5 in points. Right now we are #31. While I do think we need to improve the roster, particularly on DE, where AG/Mooge had every opportunity to improve with likes of Clowney and others, but instead traded up in the 5th for someone who is even worse than Clemons, is roster really the main problem here? Or coaching is?
Briggs makes 1 play in week 5 and he’s “significantly better than Solomon Thomas” an 11 year vet. Yeah, no. the defense is underperforming for sure but the talent is worse on all 3 levels than last year when it was like 26th ranked anyway lol Clearly they have a lot of unproven players out there every week
The best safety we have is playing MLB. The Cowboys defense is terrible this year, but the 2 games of theirs I've seen, Solomon Thomas has shown up and made some plays. Honestly would rather have him than the bums that replaced him.
The GM obviously gets more time but it certainly seems like he did a pretty poor job evaluating the talent on the current roster. Sherwood getting the big extension looks awfully goofy. We have no backup defensive linemen whatsoever and we traded several picks in preseason for two backup DT’s. We traded up twice for in the draft for players they won’t put on the field more than Tony Adams and Braden McGregor. I do like what I’ve seen out of Mauioga. Maybe it’s just the cool shoulder harness but he looks like he’s the only guy who flies around out there even if he’s out of position at times. You can coach up a young ILB who gives maximum effort.
Briggs made a lot more than one play. Could be the best move Mooge made along with Phillips, who is a long term starter in this League. We have not missed Kinlaw and Thomas at all. They sucked last year. The defense though was never #26. #5 with Bob and #20 with Ulbrich. Both of whom btw have top 15 defenses even now. We are #31. It's a huge step back with largely same players. I am concerned how Sherwood goes from team MVP as voted by the teammates to basically unrosterable player. Is this coaching or he pulled MC2, and starting sucking after getting a contract. Agree that the hope is not lost on Mauioga. He is a 5th round pick, and we will need to see next year if he is any good. Same is really true for Baron, though doesn't look like the kid is ready to play yet. We definitely needed more at Edge than what have, it's a huge miss of not addressing with vets like Clowney and others. Or using a 3d round draft pick on. It was a pretty deep DL draft.
