for a 2026 late round pick swap.

Who? Exactly. But he’s been good apparently:

My question is why now? Stephens and Carter are not getting benched. If stephens got benched you already have his replacement that’s already played better than him that you spent a 3rd round pick on. Does this move AZ Thomas even further away from the field?

I don’t get it. It seems like the player makes sense but the timing and roster construction doesn’t at all.

Trade isn’t costing much and it’s nice to see our GM remain active throughout the year.

Brownlee will be depth or an experienced starter at a position of need.

Most importantly he’s a scheme fit as apparently he’s a penalty machine.

Can’t say I know him but seeing this makes me cringe…but sure, why not? Let’s go get another penalty machine, because Jets

I’m not a big fan of dishing out all these late round picks, even subtle pick swaps, for nobodies.

Probably a combo of not being good at what they do and thinking they are good enough to fix players.

It's the Titans -- We probably moved slightly up.

Edit -- My mistake, I thought we swapped 6ths. Still, it will be at the top of the round.

Wow he’ll fit right in him and Clemons will be besties, when stupid players are costing you games go get another one this teams a joke! I mean getting stupid players and bad rookie coaches cost this team many close games why not keep
    Repeating the cycle right?

Through two games this season (Brownlee didn't play in Week 3 due to injury), the Florida State product committed a total of three penalties, which was tied for the eighth-most in the NFL. Brownlee committed eight in 2024.1

Now claim Gardner-Johnson at safety and we have upgraded a weakness this week

We potentially moved down 20+ spots from the 6th into the 7th. It’s nitpicky on my end to disagree with it but it doesn’t make sense to me.

I don’t think he can be claimed. Hes a vet so he’s not on waivers. He’s free to sign wherever. I’m going to assume a team better than the literal worst team in the league will want him.

This team has killed our spirits

From the value perspective it makes sense. 24 year old guy, 5th round pick, just in his second year of a rookie contract, already a year of starting experience, seems to be not great, but not terrible, was forced to play CB1 against best WRs, for a 6th/7th pick swap is not bad at all. I also looked at the Titans messages on this, and basically to man they feel their GM fucked up there. I mean for a 6th for 7th swap you are not going to get a great starting CB. But to get a talented young guy, who can still get better and has starting experience and 3 more years on a rookie deal is not bad at all. Apparently he had bad attitude, which is why he got traded, according to the Titans fans, but based on skills and potential alone, this was a bad trade for them and a good one for us.

Reading about him, it seems like he is better than Stephens already. Basically almost just as bad in coverage, also commits penalties, but better than Stephens in the running defense. I actually think they might try him in the slot. MC2 has been awful since signing a big contract last off season. Perhaps Brownlee will take his spot. Not a bad move overall.

Downside - bad in coverage, commits stupid penalties, bad attitude

Upside - he is a DAWG and good at run-stopping.

    Welcome to the Jets.

We signed corner in the offseason to a huge extension, signed one in free agency and drafted another one in the 3rd round dude. We signed a safety and drafted a safety in the 4th round.

You have to roll with the horses you have at that point. There’s no reason to be trading for cornerback #5.

Don't expect instant coffee with this guy!

But really, for who knows, maybe he can develop into a decent nickel to replace MC2 on a cheap. Still 3 years left on a rookie deal.. Or AZ takes over CB2, and he will be CB 3 with Stephens to safety. The point is, Brownlee can be a solid depth player for 4 more years for us and can develop too as he is young. He may be better than Stephens already. Obviously for a 6th for 7th swap don't expect miracles, he will not be a difference maker this year, but a solid depth move IMO.

Read some comments here from the Titan fans, overwhelmingly pretty much everyone feels he is a solid young prospect and was traded for way too little: https://x.com/JustinM_NFL/status/1970574288903397407

The reason is that our secondary sucks, so the signings didn't really work out. It does not hurt to add more talent if the value is there. This is not just for 1 year either, the guy has 3 years left. It might have been a longer term move too for depth.

People making a lot of labels about who Brownlee is and what he can and can’t do

    He’s 24 years old and a 2nd year player

if we drafted him we’d still be trying to figure out who he is and what he can do, similar to Stiggers for example, but you have Brownlee pegged, it’s weird

2025 Secondary Earnings against the Salary Cap:

    Sauce Gardner - $9,376,963
    Andre Cisco - $4,500,000
    Michael Carter III - $4,120,000
    Brandon Stephons - $4,000,000

Total $21,996,963 - 12.1% of the Active 51 player roster total salary

Total Interceptions after three games - Zero

Seems like a reason to me?
