The players still have a loser mentality.

Yeah sure seems like we fold really easily and really quickly

How many times have we seen a bad pick or fumble…that’s a chance for the D to come in and get a three and out stop and make a statement. But that never happens with us. We get a bad play and then we fold and shit the bed.

When Gipson fumbled against Pitt…nothing says the D can’t come in and make a stop and hold them to a FG. But they didn’t. They gave up a quick go ahead TD.

That’s the loser mentality. That’s the “here we go again” mindset. That’s been instilled in our D by years and years of just horrid offense not getting it done.

But a solid team doesn’t fold like that.

So if that’s the culture that AG wants to build, we are far from it

79, I agree. This team as presently constituted is between poor and bad. Some individual talent but that is about it. They do not seem capable of playing smart and their major acquisions Stephens and Fields were head scrachers at best... I mean what the F did they see in these guys to pay them millions....

AG already walking on thin ice with the media, and us. Preching patience w/o producing a competitive FB team is a formula for failure. IMHO, so far nothing has changed from a performance perspective... just new faces, and SOJ.

    Yup for sure…

AG is going to have to earn that trust and that patience…just because he was a great Jet player doesn’t matter much now. He was brought in to change the culture and build a winning team. I’m not sure he was the best choice but that is what it is and we’ve all beaten it to death.

I will cheer for him but he needs to show progress. So far, we are 0-2…the Bills loss was expected but was worse in how we performed than it should have been…the Pitt game was the winnable one but SOJ we beat ourselves. That’s on coaching a lot…all the culture changing and discipline and accountability were talk but didn’t show up on the field.

Season is way early, and no one expected a playoff contender honestly, but we need to show up much better than we have.

TB will be an interesting test. On the road against a good playoff team. Not unbeatable, and they just lost a great DT to injury so hopefully we can run the ball some, but win or lose, we CAN NOT show up like we did against Buffalo.

My two cents. Very disappointing start. As I see it, simplistically the two biggest concerns of this young season are:
1- Very ineffective D. We gave up 64 points in two weeks, we over pursue allowing long gains and we insist on cover one where top QBs strive. Our secondary is weak and often out of position, and LB play especially from Sherwood has been far below the standard we saw from him last year.
2- Penalties, when is that obvious, like hitting out of bounds or roughing the passer by hitting the QB high, the issue is with the players, not the coaching. You can’t overcome stupid when they just don’t get it. We extended drives and give them a chance to score for free.
I’m not saying the O is good enough, we have got to get better, but remember, the premise was always for the D to keep it close so we can play our brand of offense. Well, we are far from it between mistakes that move the chain for the opposition and bad execution.

How about simply sitting his ass down for the next series. He was in there for the next defensive series. Where's the accountability?

I was surprised by that as well…so much for accountability…that dude does this kind of shit consistently

He can sit a series or two

This is the unit that has me the most concerned. Why? Because.......not only do we have a defensive minded head coach who also played in the NFL, on Defense, but also because it's the one damn unit where the D-Coordinator is actually HIGHLY experienced! Or, supposed to be. Wilks is not a novice DC. He's been in the league for a LONG time and most of that as a DC! So, why in the hell does the D look so bad? Yeah, the talent may not be top shelf but I'm talking about players consistently out of position. Players over pursuing. The tackling, OH MY FUCKING STARS the TACKLING!! Or rather, the lack thereof! With Glenn's more physical training camp I thought, at the very least, this part would get corrected! If I see one more sumbitch load up, hit with the mother f'n shoulder and then bounce off while whiffing in the wind I'm going to scream! Drop your fucking ass, square up, look at the man's chest and put your fucking facemask between the numbers and wrap! It worked 30+ years ago when I played football, it works in Pop Warner and it STILL works in the fucking NFL! So SICK of all these asshole's showboating looking for the "big hit" then doing their bullshit dances. Hey, how about not missing a tackle then trotting your worthless asses back to the huddle to do it again. IF you win the game then you can dance all you want. This probably pisses me off the most.

Screw this...I'm starting a whole new thread to talk NOTHING but the useless turd of a defense the Jets have.

Our Run Game is better than our Pass Game. But for our run game to even see the light of day, our Defense has to keep the game close.

The Bills forced our offense to abandon the run and play our weak hand.

For Breece and Justin to dominate on the ground, our Defense has to be better......

No Justin, but principle is the same. D needs to step their game up by a bunch, and critical penalties avoided.m

Really makes you wonder how bad Gipson was to get cut, but Clemmons arguably the most stupid player on the team, gets rewarded, what he does, is what we've seen since day, I remember when the Jets were on hard knocks, and Rodgers called him out, can't recall, he got in a scuffle, and punched a helmet, glad our talent advisors, feel he's a necessity.

My main takeaway: I have no idea what to expect next week. A lot of impressions I got from week one are now turned on their heads

Well anything can happen, but I expect another loss. I expect our defense to not be able to stop Baker when it counts, even though they are down like 3 starting OL, and I expect our offense to maybe be a bit better with Tyrod being a better QB, but not really sure because without Fields’ running threat, the defense can clamp down on GW without worrying about anyone else.

I think we will go into Monday’s game matching the 0-3 Dolphins, and I think we lose that game as well because until this defense proves otherwise, there is no way I will believe that our secondary will be able to deal with Hill and Waddle

Pessimistic I know, but until this team proves otherwise, I will expect the worst

Anyone with high expectations going into this season was delusional. This is a year to identify which young talent will rise. Justin Fields was a scratch off ticket with one more hidden tile to reveal and the only chance of winning is to reveal the jackpot. After 2 games it looks more of the same for him, not really reasonable to expect anything different.

I think what some of you have leaned too far into was hope. Hoping the team would exceed expectations, hoping Fields would be a franchise player, hoping Glenn brought us a defensive identity…. Hope is not for the Jets. We don’t get hope here. Hope is knowing you have a competitive team and they stay healthy. It’s fair to hope for that, but you can’t hope a turd becomes a steak overnight. The rebuild starts next year. It’s all about which players can show that we can build with them.

Yeah but to be fair, I think most of us on here were not really predicting much success…sure a few talked about Fields maybe “getting it”, some really liked AG’s approach and talk of culture, discipline, and accountability, etc. but most of us expected another down year.

Or maybe I should just speak for myself…as to Fields, I did not expect anything more than what he’s always been, which is a bad QB. As to AG, I love the talk but until it shows up on the field it’s just talk. And as to wins, I was expecting about 5 wins … we’ll see how it turns out over 17 games, but after 2 games, I think the most disappointing thing is that we still do the same stupid Same Old Jets type things with bad penalties, fumbles at the worst time, and folding as soon as things look bad. I was hoping the new coaching staff would at least make us competitive and eliminate the stupidity…we were competitive against the Steelers but the stupidity was there and it cost us a game that we really should have won…and in the second game we were not even close to competitive. So far, the new coaching doesn’t seem to have really made a significant impact.

Let’s hope it gets better as the season goes on…

I don’t know, people already seem out for blood. Wake me up in 3 years, we’ll see if we’re flushing another failed former DC turned 1st time HC with his 1st time OC down the drain. Or maybe magic happens, I dunno. Either way I don’t think anyone should be investing more into this team than a casual watch on tv, and no guilt of not watching at all.
