They looked better than they did under Saleh, Gase, and Bowles. Yes, they made costly mistakes, but overall, there was obvious improvement. Rome wasn't built in a day. It's not going to happen all in one game. They have a lot of stuff they need to fix, but to throw in the towel in the first game is ludicrous.

Of the coaches who were available this off season, who should the Jets have hired? Who would have fixed all the problems they have had over the past 15 years?

plain and simple Mike McCarthy while not the best coach in the league he is guaranteed to take you to the playoffs in a couple years and experienced and woulda been perfect for Rodgers, and your saying the jets discipline looked like absolute shit last year but game 1 they look less shitty even though it’s still shit? How is that any better?

They didn't look better. It was the same story. A bunch of mistakes. Defense couldn't stop a nose bleed and they found a way to lose the game at the end.

The Jets did that plenty of times with Saleh.

Offensive play calling spot on. Long time coming
Good aggressive coaching. I commend them for the fourth down call and two point conversion.
This team identity is clear, they will not be intimidated, they will play with fire
OL and DL played very well. Solid first game by our rookie RG. Our LT is the real deal.
JF excellent first game, Hall and running game set the stage for a great O
Secondary and zone play calling sucked. Coverage was horrible except for Sauce
How do we miss an extra point , and they kick a 61 yarder field goal
    Time out calls a problem

problem is it will take atleast 5 years to know if we built Rome or North Korea again, that’s why we should of never hired a rookie head coach again, because it will always be excuses like this for the next 5 years, see saleh. If Glenn sucks this year they will blame the roster, if he sucks next year they will draft a franchise qb if he sucks after that it will be give him a chance to develop his franchise qb, 5 years in and no playoffs we will finally realize he sucks!! I mean the league makes it easy to make the playoffs these days, the jets are the only ones who constantly fail to realize this!

One more observation relevant to next week against the Bills.
The defense we saw today, particularly the secondary, will get destroyed if they play like they did today.

Because things take time. You expected them to be perfect in their first regular season game?

Also, Mike McCarthy?? I know the guy won the Super Bowl 15 years ago, but other than that, his teams have consistently collapsed in the playoffs. He's a modern Marty Schottenheimer: Great in the regular season but shit in the playoffs. He also inherited two teams that were already highly talented and were perennial playoff contenders. He's never shown that he can rebuild a struggling franchise.

yeah Josh allen destroyed a good Baltimore defense today, imagine how he will be licking his chops when he watches film this weekend and see how much Stephen’s sucks? The defense better show up next week or we will get demolished. If the defense plays like they did today we won’t be saying “we almost won” for sure”

atleast he constantly makes the playoffs that’s the freakin point? Which jets fans right now would not take making the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round right now over 5 years of uncertainty of a woody hire? You think McCarthy loses this game today? Get real?

No, the point is to win the Super Bowl. I don't want to be the team that is a Super Bowl contender every year and then shits the bed in the playoffs. I want to win the Super Bowl.

And there's no way to argue whether or not a team coached by McCarthy wins or loses today's game. We can only speculate.

Also, the idea that veteran head coaches have better success than rookie head coaches is based on nothing. Many, many coaches built dynasties with the first team they were head coach of, and many former head coaches have failed miserably with their second team.

How can you win a Super Bowl if you haven’t made the playoffs in 14 years with rookie coach hires? The point is to make the playoffs where anything can happen. Maybe you wouldn’t be happy with just playoffs but at this point jets fans expectations are so low that making the playoffs will be like winning the superbowl for most of us

    - there was so much talk about Breece, he was great, making good cuts in between the tackles….hes gonna be a demon in this offense

    - Fields to Garrett was money

    - Ruckert played surprisingly well

    - fields made some very accurate throws

    - Q/Will/JJ played well.

    - Stephen’s again plays tight coverage but just gives up too much yardage. May have to try another CB out there.

    - Gipson maybe on the chopping block…too many fumbles.

It's the Same Ol Jets - get your hopes up then dash them every time - they always fail when it matters most and find ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I was in a bougey box with a bunch of Steelhead fans.

They were nervous and unhappy most of the game yelling “come on Grandpa” at Rogers.

Till Gipson gave them a gift. Then it was high fives all around.

On the basis of entertainment, the game was entertaining. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Greeks and Romans had a few good ideas about stadium sports.

Focus on the next game against the Bills. A game that counts toward our standing in AFC East.

    GO JETS!!!

Fields and the offense looked a million times better than I imagined.

The defense looked woeful at times but honestly, I don't think they were terrible. Yes, the secondary outside of Sauce and MC2 need lots of work. They only gave up only 271 yards (58 on the ground), held PITT to 40% on 3rd down and had 4 sacks. That should be enough to win when your offense scores 32 points.

The problem? Obviously, Gipson's fumble is the biggest factor. The penalties (74 yards to 24). Also, Boswell hits a 56 and 60 yarder. Thats 13 points. Plus, the Jets not converting either 2 pt play.

Games are not won on the stat sheet, but this game should have been a 34-24 Jets win.

This is a really tough one to swallow. If he makes the right read there the game is over. Like Sabo said he made the wrong read a few times but they weren’t as backbreaking as this one. Actually thought the other reads he got wrong, he should have pulled it. This one was the opposite. It’ll get hammered out but a pretty brutal tweet to read the morning after losing a one possession game in which you could point to one of five things that could have changed the outcome of the game if they were reversed.

but now that I’ve slept on it I feel pretty damn good about where things are. The secondary is an absolute train wreck, I have no idea if it’s the players or a really smart quarterback picking apart a soft zone. Either way it’s not going to get any better this week so hopefully the game plan changes or the players wake up.

Thought the DL was fantastic. We’ll see how they do against James Cook but we were getting pressure and stopping the run. WMD looked absurd. Heard someone make this comparison at the game yesterday… He has the body type and style of Jason Taylor. Or at least he can grow into that.

Offensively… Really what is there not to be impressed by? First time play collar going against a top-tier defense and everyone made it look easy. He put a quarterback that needs to be handled with white gloves in the perfect situation almost every time. Unfortunately two of the times he didn’t were two of the biggest miscues of the game… The two point conversions. My one complaint is the lack of involvement of Arian Smith. You have to take a shot at some point. And if you love his speed draw up some quick slants for him and hope he can pull some Antonio Brown or Deshawn Jackson magic and take one to the house. not that we were hurting for offense but it’s a wrinkle I hope we see in the future.

The Quincy late hit may have been the most important shot-in-the-foot. Outrageous.

Not for anything and I know it was a big hit, but Garrett Wilson has to catch that ball on the final drives. Receivers get smoked and hang on all throughout this league every week.

Absolutely. And he said it too. We shouldn’t have ever been in that situation to begin with though.
