He looked great. Probably won’t be flashy enough to be a top 3 pick which would be great for us. Aaron Glenn coaching Anthony Becht’s son to a title is how the misery has to end.
I want LaNorris Sellers. He fits the dual threat mold that Glenn wants on this roster. Feel like it will either be him or Klubnik when its all said and done. Klubnik give me Baker vibes.
Fucking Harbor. Such a huge recruiting cock-tease. A five-star who takes late visits and won’t give a verbal until his big reveal on signing day. Maddening. That said, I like him a lot. I like LaNorris also, and said earlier how playing against him scares the crap out of me. Plus, if I were betting on Heisman after Week One, he’d be the guy. He wasn’t spectacular, but no one else was either, and that USC offense doesn’t do a whole lot without him. He’s also going to womp on teams into October. I’d still like to see more before hopping on the Sellers Train. When VT played disciplined defense, he was shutdownable. They’re just a couple notches short on both talent and discipline.
On Carson Beck - don’t be fooled. I don’t hate him. I just like him better as a Miami Dolphin. The narrative this morning is that last night showed he’s out to prove his failure to live up to last year’s hype was a product of WR drops. Horseshit. I talked elsewhere about this and watched to see where the truth lies. Georgia WRs had a drop problem last year that they didn’t have in 2023 - all true. They also had Bowers and McConkey in 2023. Watch where Beck puts the ball. It’s almost never in a place that makes it easy on a receiver or allows for easy RAC yards. Everything is a little too high, a little too low, a little too far behind. Last night he bounced two balls. He has a strong arm, so at least it gets to wherever he’s throwing quickly. He had two TDs last night. One was a blind throw to the back corner on a scramble - either his WR was going to break off and run to it or it was falling incomplete. The other was an incredible catch, also off a scramble. Best I can say about Carson Beck is - even though his ball placement for his receivers is lousy, he’s at least smart enough to make it lousy for the defense also.
Yeah, that’s a better summary. I’m just all lathered up seeing the Beck Hypewagon getting fueled up this morning.
If he was a victim of drops last year then last night he was a benefactor of fantastic receivers. Beck is a 5th round dart throw to me.
To his credit, he's done a good job racking up his Name, Image, Lambo money.... and once he burns through that he can probably get a gig holding an NFL clipboard for a few years (I mean if Zach Wilson can...)
I’ve been a Beck hater, and still not ready to think he will be good in the NFL but he was good last night ND will have one of the top defenses in the nation and he was strong against them
I know this is off topic, so apologies, but man, reading your description here…I just feel like I could write the EXACT same thing about Justin Fields. Exactly. Placement sucks. Strong arm. Good scrambler/runner. Funny…
You might have now ruined my football Sunday. : ) Correcting one thing on Beck - i was wrong about his first TD. He threw that one to the front of the end zone, not the back. After a second look, everything else about Carson Neck still stands. I’d only add that his second touchdown was a crazy-good catch to an even a dumber throw than at first glance.
Josh Hoover won’t be at the top of anyone’s draft board, but I could see him being some team’s second day pick. He looked really good last night. He’ll also thrive in that TCU offense. UNC doesn’t have a ton of talent on defense, but it looked like the geniuses across the field under-estimated Hoover’s arm in their game plan. He was the best QB in Texas in Week One. Also been watching the extended highlights for some of the less interesting games. John Mateer is pretty fun to watch. Better than I gave him credit. With a huge asterisk. Any praise is worthless against Illinois State. Or LIU. Or Western Illinois. The list goes on.
I don't think there is anything Arch Manning could do that wouldn't make him my top QB in next year's draft. Physically, he appears adequate to be an NFL star. And he has 1 Hall of Famer and 2 borderline Hall of Fame QBs in his immediate family; I have to believe they will not let him just flunk out of the league because he can't make the reads.
It is plain miserable to see how well attended this thread on next year's draft for a QB is. Especially right before Jets first game of the season.
Most “experts” are definitely on your side. But, nothing he could do to jeopardize that? Ignoring expectations, his college success is limited - two 2024 starts against two cruddy teams and as a RPO sub for Ewers. At some point he’s gotta show it on the field against quality teams. Until then, we’re drafting quality sperm. I’m not totally against doing that and then arranging for him to bang one of Joe Montana’s granddaughters. I just don’t have another 20 years to wait around to find out if the mouthy, triplet girls the Jets drafted in 2027 can play.
