It seems like my ten year old 43" smart Samsung has crapped out. The red standby light blinks and there is some corresponding low level flashing going on with an otherwise dark screen. I need to move it to a different room to fully check out but it looks like I'll be replacing it if I'm going to watch any football this season. Space limits me to a 50" or 55" model. If anyone has recently replaced theirs or has something to recommend, I'd be interested in hearing about it. Right now I'm leaning towards another Samsung but can be convinced to go elsewhere. All I need is a good picture and color, 95% of what I use it for is right off the cable. Thanks.
I just bought the TCL Q77 QLED from Costco, I got the 85" so the 55" should be very similar but they sometimes do make slight changes dependent upon model size. Had to make some picture/color adjustments out of the box but nice picture for the price. If you don't have a Costco membership the similar TCL would be the Q7.
So many choices these days. I would go with the one that most suits your needs. Do you stream a lot of programs? Do you need a clear 4K picture? How about audio.. is it gonna pump thru a sound bar? Networked? Those are some of the things you need to consider as you want to be as future proof as your budget allows. Usually, TV tech rolls over every 2-5 years or so. Take a trip to your local Best Buy and talk to one of the kids over there. Tell them what you need and they'll show you what they have in the store. Stay away from open items..

I’ve found that you can find a great deal with exceptional picture quality by buying a “not-smart” TV. I use a streaming stick anyway, so I don’t need their built in smart components and max out on TV specs. But it is harder to find these days
Those were back in 2021 and then they tried to backdoor the patches without having anyone find out. These days it seems any TV can have the same potential security issue but not sure which ones are worse. If they are trying to track what I do they can always go to my phone, these days I can't seem to get any kind of notification that doesn't involve naughty midget women.
You can buy a top notch TV for a very minimally better picture due to the fact that your source content is going to limit the resolution anyways. Or you can just buy the “low end” model and get whatever you want for cheap. I work in pro audio visual and most modest displays can get you a high quality 4K image even if you use a AppleTV and watch Planet Earth on Netflix or AppleTV movies. A high end TV doesn’t really get you much anymore. Maybe a slightly better image that you will barely be able to tell the difference. The only other big difference might be in refresh rate in online PS5/Xbox gaming. All the built in smartTV platforms suck except for TCL which is Roku IMO. I have Sony’s and Samsungs and have used LG’s and they’re all garbage. Get a Roku or AppleTV.

I stopped at Best Buy yesterday and wandered around for almost a half hour; there were no kids there, or anyone else who seemed interested in talking to anyone. I don't stream, and don't really care about big sound - it's mostly the picture quality and reliability that will be deciding factors. Thanks.
Thanks, that Samsung U7900 you linked one of the one's that drew my interest but the U8000 has voice commands in the remote so it will probably be that or the newer QLED Q7F for less than a hundred more. The streaming is not important to me but it's there if I need a change.
If you are talking the Costco tv, it's a 5 year, full warranty. I think TCL is 2 years of bought elsewhere, Costco adds a 3 year warranty through Allstate
Not at all; I have no desire to deal with warranty situations - I just want an appliance that is going to work when I turn it on. As i said earlier, I got ten years out of my last one and I found a receipt that showed I got eight out of the one before that, which was an Olevia bought at Target for $688 in 2007 and it was only a 32" if I remember correctly. I went to PC Richard's Wednesday night to look at the two Samsungs I had narrowed the choice down to. I bought the QLED 50" for $400, they opened the box, plugged it in to make sure it would fire up and I was in and out in under ten minutes - it takes longer to get a pizza! The salesman asked if I needed cables or wanted a service plan but easily took my first "No thanks." The 55" would have required moving some stuff around to fit in which I didn't want to bother with. Setup was pretty easy but I may want to go back and tweak it a bit. I had a replay of Buffalo and the Giants preseason games on and the graphics of the first down overlay were glaring at times which is not rare with red and blue together; the green of the field looked great. Sounds like the power supply board went. I’ve had most luck with Samsung as far as reliability , Vizio 2nd.
I believe it probably was the power supply after getting a quick degree from the YouTube Institute of Technology. Over the weekend I noticed some faint flickering when the set was turned off and the standby light was blinking which is a common sign. I suppose the guy who knocked down the pole out front early Tuesday morning was just the coup de gras.
I'm pretty sure there's a Chinese abyzmul AI bot in production as we speak... Oh, and I have a Panasonic Viera TV that was made in 2009... which I probably just jinxed
