Brian Costello @BrianCoz Allen Lazard told me he is practicing today and is on track to play in Week 1. He injured his shoulder in the preseason game in Green Bay two weeks ago. Not great news. This means he won't start the season on IR and will take up a WR spot.
Still like over 20 guys to cut by tomorrow. Practice today has to be a little awkward. “Good job men, we will see you tomorrow- well, some of you”
Zack Rosenblatt @ZackBlatt Aaron Glenn said Allen Lazard, Tyrod Taylor, Isaiah Davis are all on track to play in Week 1. The IR plan is officially dead. Not great.
The notion that Lazar was going to IR was wishful thinking by many Jets fans. CS might see his role differently, particularly on a run heavy first game.
I don't think it was really wishful thinking. The guy was hurt and didn't practice for two weeks. Wasn't outlandish to think he might start the season on IR. For every great block he makes, he drops a pass or commits a hold. He's a net negative in every way. If this coaching staff thinks they can unlock something in him that three other coaches haven't been able to unlock, godspeed. I don't have that kind of faith in him.
Not that I’m a big fan of Lazar, nor do I think he is a wide receiver two, but in his last year in GB he had a monster season that kind of propelled him to us. So it wasn’t three coaches that were unable to bring the best of him, mostly one….Saleh with our most incompetent OC ever.
I’m sorry, that’s correct and I knew that. My point stands though, he’s a local kid from a family of Jets fans who dreamed of being a Jet. It doesn’t change the fact he’s just not very good.
See I think he’s not good within reason. Yeah Ruckert was a bad 3rd round draft pick, that was another terrible move in Joe Douglas long line of them but at this point, it’s him or some other bum that another team cut, a practice squad level player. I’m not sure they are going to be better than him if a team like Cincinnati cut a 3rd round TE, 25 years old with NFL game experience who caught passes from our QB in college, we might be very interested here. and yet that’s what we have already with Ruckert
Yeah point taken…the question isn’t really at this point if Ruckert is a good TE, or a starting quality TE…I don’t think he is. The question is if he is better than some other team’s bottom of the roster cuts or is there a better TE available in free agency or in a cheap trade (like we did with the 6th rounders for DTs) that are better than Ruckert There may be, but chances are most of the TEs who will be available won’t be much better than Ruckert…if there were better, they wouldn’t be available…
The only good game I remember from him was when he got his shot against Miami.... dude made some aggro blocks that game. That's when I knew he really grew up a JETS fan
If it’s between him and Beck, I’d rather Beck. Beck can block. There’s a good chance we’re keeping Nwongwu, which means Beck is the odd man out in the RB room, but he’d be perfect in place of Ruckert.
I think it’s more to do with Beck. Beck is a great blocker as a hybrid/FB, but pur RB room is packed with Nwongwu likely also making the roster. I think it’d be much wiser to keep Beck and drop Ruckert if it came down between them.
