Tim Tebow 2.0, can run, can't throw, it amazes me how stupid this franchise is, I can't wait for all the 3 and outs, ground and pound baby!!!
This: We have to stop pretending that people are drawing conclusions on Justin Fields after just two preseason games. What we’ve seen mirrors his entire four-year career. What he’s struggled with he’s struggled with his entire career. The one thing he does well isn’t evident in camp or preseason so obviously he will be better but anyone expecting anything other than what we’ve seen from him so far is going to be sorely upset. This is four years worth of evidence people are basing opinions on. Not two games.
Fields improved last season and unlike the Jets, Pittsburgh didn't build the offense around him. He has a good chance to improve again this season, so I'm not pessimistic like other on this board.
I understand it is more than 2 preseason games 12 snaps. Btw, one of these games was very good. However, my point was that it was the same situation for Baker and Sam. Years of tape resulted in them being discarded but they rebounded and were decent last year. And while last week was not encouraging, I would not rule that out yet for Fields. As I said before, I think if it does happen for him, we will know after 5-6 games once the season starts, not even after 1st few games of regular season. Definitely not after 12 drop backs in preseason. A big part of his game was running to set up the pass, designed QB runs. It's a new offense too. They won't show it in preseason. It will just take time, and I don't know if it will happen or not, and would even concede probably not, but from what I have seen so far, I am not ready to rule this out just yet.
Yeah look, I think it’s fair to say that regular season games may look different. While they aren’t going to show all the wrinkles in preseason, and on top of that, I’m sure they don’t want Fields running it a lot in some meaningless preseason games, I DO think that strategically, this IS what they want to be this year. I think they know Fields isn’t a great passer and I also think they are trying to build a culture of toughness, so I do think that we will be a very run heavy team. They’ve said as much, and vanilla or not, the preseason games have backed that up. Shit, we ran the ball on 3rd and 8!!! And got the first, by the way! I think we are going to be run run run and then run some more. Problem is, that’s ain’t gonna be enough to beat any of the good teams…that isn’t going to beat Buffalo, KC, Baltimore, etc. Because those teams can score at will most of the time. So great, we burn 8 minutes on a drive and have to settle for a FG because Fields can’t convert a third down and then a team like Buf or KC will go score a TD inside of 3 minutes. This run game is a nice idea and it makes sense for a team trying to claw up from mediocrity when we don’t have a QB, but it’s not a recipe for winning games. You need to strike on a QB like Stroud or Daniel’s, who by the way, didn’t take YEARS to show they belong. They showed right away. So do I expect Fields to be much better? No not really. He hasn’t been accurate. He hasn’t processed fast enough. We’ve seen zero signs that those issues are fixed now. So while I agree it’ll be a much more reasonable assessment 5 or 6 games in, I believe that the most likely assessment will be the same one we are making now. Maybe a bit better if he runs more and makes some plays that way, but as a QB? Not expecting much better.
Why are so many guys here looking at Fields as if there was a strong belief that he would be a long term franchise quarterback and bemoaning the fact that he isn't? No team would bring in a potential franchise quarterback on only a two year contract for twenty million a year. To paraphrase: he is who we thought he is. He's the guy who's here now and maybe next year as a better long term solution is sought, whether through the draft or trade - nothing more. The sky is in no danger of falling.
Standard pre-season panic and over reaction to a good and bad pair of preseason games without revealing a damned thing as to how they will use Fields.. If we expected perfection in pre season for a team with a hell of a lot of work yet in front of them we are not paying attention to our starting baseline. We are a six to 8 wins if it all clicks, and is founded on a strong running game and Fields rolling out a lot, something that by design have not seen yet. We all know what Field is and isn’t, and he will not be expected to win too many games by sitting behind center and slinging the rock. Of course last year at this junction we were in euphoria during the preseason and on our way to a playoff season behind a swing the rock HOF QB, an early feeling that went into the toilet after a few games. aG will need more than this season to get the ship going full speed ahead, but I have a lot more confidence that the shit show of the past regime.
I said this before. The Jets will be facing stacked boxes all year until Fields makes them back off thru the air game. The new OC has his work cut out for him in that regard but if he gets creative, especially with our TE room looking pretty solid with Taylor and Beck, maybe Fields can get his passing game straightened out which of course, opens up the GnP offense. If he doesn't? Hello '26 draft class..
These are the New York Jets. 3 points AND an 8 minute rest for the defense is probably a bit on the optimistic side.
Fields has shown in the past that he can throw well enough to keep a defense honest. The problem is whenever he does he loses like 3 fumbles in the 4th quarter. Fields biggest problem is holding the ball too long. But what can you do, its something a running QB does. The best we can do is coach him up to run or throw the ball away after 4 seconds, not keep scrambling until you take a sack/fumble. Its going to be a wacky ride, but at least it wont be boring.
Those reports were just smoke. A lot of it had to do with "culture". We will see how Wilson "Meshes" catching 60-70 balls this year AND blocking with his college Buddie at the helm while losing. Sometimes we just don't know how good we have it, until it's gone. Wilson owes Aaron a bit of gratitude for helping him secure his bag. Let's get something straight about the QB situation. The Jets failed us, not Aaron Rogers. I suspect we miss him ALOT this year
I appreciate the tranquility and don't miss all the bullshit either. Time to be happy not being on the back pages for once.
Probably shouldn't say this but, "Page 6" and EVERY other back page in the country has been left blank for all bullshit that is Donald Stupid. Sorry, couldn't hold it in any longer. Feel free to delete this if someone gets butt hurt about me calling out a scumbag.
