If the season goes south Woody is thinking of adding a Male Cheerleader to the squad like they have in Minnesota to turn our attention from the field.

I agree completely. We need a better QB and we need a WR2. Someone like oh I don't know maybe JSN would fit, but I've beat that horse to death. I don't see this defense being top 5 with our edge rushers either.

I'm just hoping for competitive games. No more 20-30 point blowouts, game over after the 1st. I think last night's game is close if both teams play the 1's.

Yeah - wondering if "let 'em play" is the theme for the NFL this year? Seems to be a lot more early contact going unflagged.

Settle down everyone. It's flipping preseason.

Wait to set yourselves on fire when the games actually matter

Sorry to be clear, not looking to replace Fields. I just don't love the Jets current backup options.

Ok I just watched the game today….and gotta say that was disgusting. Lots of great points already made in this thread, but I’ll just highlight some of my reactions watching the game casually on my iPad while in the pool (hey, it’s LA!)

    - Justin Fields sucks. He just does. He is what we thought he was. Indecisive and inaccurate. That pass to GW on the inside slant on third down in the red zone is the epitome of why he sucks. GW had the inside position. All Fields had to do was lead him by a yard or so and GW catches that ball and it’s a first down. Instead, he throws it slightly behind GW and the DB knocks the ball down. This is what he’s always been. Personally I don’t think this is fixable. It’s who he is.

    - Dart has looked pretty good for the Giants in two games now…we could have drafted him and he’s way better than Fields already in my book. Ah well…

    - our receiver group outside of GW is also who we all thought they were. A bunch of scrubs that are WR3 types at best. And yeah, the bad hands rep on Arian Smith is legit…without even counting, I can recall 2 if not 3 balls that went right through his hands. Pritchett also had at least one drop I remember. Our WR room has gotta be the worst in the league. Disgusting

    - our backup D is pretty bad…we let a bad Giants team have their will on us and gave up way too many big throws…granted the starters weren’t as bad and Sauce didn’t play so I’m not going to take anything more out of this other than our depth is razor thin

    - penalties were awful once the backups got in there

    - on the plus side I think our punter looked pretty decent

And to echo a previous comment in this thread, I just am SO frustrated in Woody and his decision to hire yet another first time defensive coach…this team’s problem has been offense for decades now. Just mind boggling how fucking stupid Woody has been.

I am trying to keep a meaningless preseason game in perspective but the thing I am looking at is trends and such…and so far, Fields has shown us absolutely NO reason to think he’s going to be anything other than what he’s been, and that’s not good. And our WR group outside of GW has also shown me very little reason for hope.

I think we are going to be a bad team this year, which I guess is good in that we will need all the draft position we can get in order to take a QB next year.

I just hate going into yet another season with no hope of having a winning team. Again. And Again. And again.

I feel you my man. I have everything "crossed" hoping I'm wrong but I get this sneaky suspicion that we're not.

Yes Fields is pressing really bad. He’s gotta figure this shit out or he’ll be back in Columbus selling autographs for a living instead.

2nd chances are rare. Idk anyone that gets 5 chances

he’s terrible. He is what he’s been. Indecisive. Inaccurate. He is a very good runner. That’s about it.

There’s no fixing it…he isn’t suddenly going to blossom into a very good QB. We are treading water here yet again.

he hasn’t been lighting the league up but he also hasn’t been this poor.

He simply looks uncomfortable throwing the football right now. He’s pressing and that’s not good

Another thing I’ll say about that game and this week with the Giants

i know Brian burns is a good NFL player but unblockable? What are we doing here!? all that investment in the tackle position they ought to not let anyone dominate them

Rough game for Fields. He had one good one and one bad one in preseason, 12 total drop backs. There is more to see...

After watching Fields play, should have just ran it back with Arod and Davante. With a better OL and TE this year, there’s always a chance they could break the playoff drought. I just don’t see this Justin Fields led team scoring enough points to break 5 wins this year. The defense is going to have to play lights out.

He'll have $40m in his pockets so he's set for life no matter what happens on the field. Major fck up by this new GM.

I feel like you keep saying this but everybody keeps bringing up the same point: this is who Justin Fields is. There’s nothing more to see. Sometimes he’s great sometimes he’s god awful. Usually more awful than great or else you wouldn’t be on his third team in four years. He’s going to win us game with his legs, he’s going to lose his games with his arm, he’s going to be replaced halfway through next season with whatever quarterback we draft and then we will never have to see him in a Jets uniform again.

I understand more likely than not we will draft a QB again next year, and that was the understanding from the very beginning. We give Fields a shot to see if he can pull Sam/Baker, and if does not work out, draft a QB in a good QB draft next yar. But I am not ready to say we are there yet after 2 preseason games.

Same thing you described happened to Sam and Baker, and they improved and had some good season(s). That gives some hope. I still want to see it play out for more than 12 drop backs in preseason before concluding we will need to draft a QB next season, even though that will likely be a conclusion when it is all said and done.

    Love your optimism!

I think the point is, at least to me, not that you are saying this after 2 preseason games. We are saying this after seeing what he has been for 3 years on two different teams, and then the 2 preseason games are exactly more of the same. It’s not like we don’t have actual game film to watch from real games. We have 3 years of seeing that he is inaccurate and that he is slow to process and holds the ball too long.

The 2 preseason games just show the same thing. He is what he is. The team that drafted him high in the first round gave up on him and drafted his replacement in two years. That’s pretty fast. They saw firsthand how bad he is, and they took the first chance they got to replace him. The 2nd team, a pretty damn well run team for decades, by the way, also got rid of him, and they didn’t even have a replacement on their roster. A backdoor handshake deal with a 41 year old Rodgers was good enough for them to move on.

So yeah, the plan is to have him hold the fort, make some runs, try not to lose the game with turnovers, and see what we can do while we build a running game and a defense and draft a QB next year.

But it’s going to be a long fucking boring year as we can already see. He sucks. We all knew it, and sad to say but he hasn’t really shown us anything in these two games to make us believe he is turning some corner or suddenly “getting it”

    Sad but true…
