I'm keeping a close eye on this. Only 3 more Tile fish trips up here until its over for '25 so, I'll be sure to make one of them if this one gets cancelled.

Returned yesterday from overnighter at Hudson. Left at 11:00AM Thursday. Seas glassy with slight SE swell. Drove straight to SW corner. On way there spotted a Bonner box floating. Had rod holder on it. Casted my Ron Z and pulled out a nice Mahi. At the SW corner started dropping for tiles in 500’ of water. Boated 24. My secret is use clams and put a blink light on it. It’s dark down there.
Set out spread for White Marlin. Had a dredge too. Had 4 come up in the spread. One bit a chugger head with a Bally but didn’t get the hook. Trolled into the dark changing the spread to Big Eye stuff. At 9:30 found our spot on the Hundred Square. Set out sword baits and started to chunk. Manta rays and big Hammerheads all around. No love for the chunk or swords at grey light about 4:30 AM pulled that gear and set up the Big Eye trolling gear. Ran down the east wall then across the deep to the West side. Trolled a couple pots when both white pearl sterling wide trackers got smacked. Lines crossed didn't know what we had till that mess got to the boat. While gaffing a small Yellowfin tuna my buddy looked down and said there is another down there! Boated another small Yellowfin. Got the spread back out toured a few pots boated another Mahi.

Pulled the plug at 9:30AM and headed for the barn. Ride home was bumpy due to NE wind coming up.

Erin headed further west. Not good for us. NOAA has us at 5-7ft seas, 20kt winds. Upside is that they're also calling for long period waves so it should be just a slow rise and fall. By Tues nite we need to be long gone from Hudson or Wilmington Canyons as Erin will be bringing 7-11ft waves with her. That's if we go at all. Good thing I still got a Pulley Ridge trip for Oct so if deep dropping is done for the year here, I do have another opportunity.

Trip cancelled and frankly, I'm not mad about it at all. It would have been nice to do a 2.5day Tile trip but, it also would have been reckless to sail to the the canyon knowing a Cat5 storm is inbound.

    That’s a bummer.

they will be there Cman after the blow. They live deep.

Hudson will get a change up. We have my clubs Offshore Open next week. Captains meeting Friday. Will probably do an overnight verses 2 single days. Less fuel and more time for line in-the water.

Let me know how it goes. I would be curious what color the water will be after this big a blow. Last time I went out the water after a blow was almost a cobalt blue which isn't the norm. Unpacked all my shit and put the gear away. Next trip might be in Sept. for blues and bonito if they're still around. Still doing Pulley Ridge in Oct weather permitting.

This blow is supposed to come through tonight tomorrow and Friday. Cappy is thinking Monday for the overnight. Forecast now is 6' at 8 seconds.

I'm thinking Friday to Saturday 2' at 8 seconds.

Depending on the size of your craft, it could be a bit bumpy every 8 secs. Monday might be your best bet. I was thinking perhaps next week for Blues and Bones too.

A friend of mine posted on FB so thought I'd share here. He's down in Deerfield Beach so probably just going to be of interest to our Florida posters but couple of reels available.

    What he posted,

Hey all you fish heads. I am trying to sell these for a friend. Trying to figure a fair price. Penn International 12 H on custom roller rods with Aftco butts

Just set up a jigging trip on Tuesday next week for blues/bonito/albacore. Should come home with enough meat to really smash Pulley Ridge in October.

Headed 2hrs south for albacore or bonito. No luck. Swung north east of the highlands lots of blues. 10 boxed but just missed the pool fish. Water smooth. You should be good to go.

In the MRMTC Offshore Tournament. Broke the inlet at Midnight Wednesday. Lines in by 5:30AM started at the South West Corner of Hudson. Pilot Whales and a few Dolphins. No bites.

Trolled up West wall past he tip and started trolling down other side. Headed for Jones area. Surprised to find a few pots there so changed up to Mahi stuff. First pass elicited a good response from the youngsters, but a big Bull charged a way back Bally with a 5 3/4 oz Blue White Joe Shute and came tight. Boated 8 mahi including the Bull which weighed out at 20 lb.

By nightfall the waves came in at 5 to 6 footers at 5 seconds with an occasional 7 mixed in. The plan was to chunk but it was too rough. Another Captain tied up to a pot but said he got launched out his bunk twice overnight. One of the crew was for bagging it and running home but we would have got our ass kicked anyway. We decided to ride it out and trolled through the night. Waves were coming from the North and a Southern direction with a following sea was a nice break, but we had to plow the field. Buried the pulpit up to the railing a few times.

No bites in spite of the effort made. After the sun came up Thursday decided to make a run to the Southwest corner back to where we started. Seas started to lay down.

Had 2 hours left before we had to start the run home. Saw a big custom get tight so mugged him a little. BANG! A way back Bally again with a Blue White Joe Shute in the outside rigger when flying 80 wide starts to scream! Strapped a big boy into the harness and 1/2 hour later gaffed a 170-pound Big Eye Tuna.

Buttoned it up and headed for the scales. South wind came up on way home. A little bumpy but we had seen worse.

Thus far we are #1 in Mahi and Mahi Stringer. We entered the small boat category too but they don't post the results online so I will have to go down tonight to see if our fish lasts.

Welp, we won the heaviest Mahi, Mahi Stringer, Under 35’ 2nd Place Tuna, and Under 35’ Mahi.

    $9,600.00.

Covers the fuel, the in, and bait. Plus a little left over for the next tournament.

A 206.6 lb Big Eye was the top fish.
